Drinking
In reply to black
When you drink vodka over ice, it can give you kidney failure.
When you drink rum over ice, it can give you liver failure.
When you drink whiskey over ice, it can give you heart problems.
When you drink gin over ice, it can give you brain problems.
Apparently, ice is really bad for you.
Warn all your friends.

If you feel your body saying "slow down" its a good time to slow down
In reply to conman
What does that mean?
You could be doing harm to your body and don't know it.
In reply to black
i dono about most people, but for me, its an effort to put more down after a certain point.......im not completely drunk but i know when my body is saying, watch it
In reply to conman
Ok, got you but I am talking about long term effect.
How is it going to affect your health, it you drink 3 beers a night?
In reply to black
Every single human is different. Research shows 3 beers a night has long term effects if you do so for an extended period. Some men drink 3 beers a night and for 3 - 4 years run like the wind. No effects seen, then the fatty liver appears "out of nowhere". The side effects are many. [google them]
It could take months it could take years. If you are drinking 3+ beers per night - you are setting yourself up for health issues. Simple.
It is not about drunkenness. Use moderation, drink and enjoy, but use moderation if you are 40+
I have a drink anytime anywhere - but now it's no more than x per week. PERIOD.
Irreversible scarring of the liver causes Cirrhosis. What can cause scarring: alcohol (quantity+time). That simple.
Side note: MODERATION. I have a long love of a good beverage, and I want that to remain!
Side note: it is no joke: Ice in the hospitality industry is some of the dirtiest water around. very poor quality control. watch next time you are at a bar how the ice comes from the back room to the bar..... bacteria bonanza.
In reply to pelon
Good info.
True. Someone I know, found mold on his ice.

If you want to know how clean a restaurant is, visit the kitchen after clean up.
By the way, they all have roaches, some do a better job of controlling them

My dear fellow:
ALCOHOL INCREASETH THE DESIRE BUT DECREASETH THE PERFORMANCE
In reply to Dukes
is that piece of literature from learned experience or practice!!
In reply to pelon
I can see drinking 3 beers one night but over TIME - not within the hour (and I've observed many a fools do that in NO...
the key is drink three over a stretch and then hold steady (no drinking per se) for at least the next 4 days to purge and reset.
In reply to np
I know people that drink a 6 pack every night.
alyuh cyaan buy season ticket for cricket and go 5 days and doan fire a few everyday - all this 3 beers and out talk!!!
I rarely drink - I can nurse a beer or a glass of wine for two hours
Wifey got me on a glass of wine a day routine and on the weekends, I'll drink 2 beers each, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
In reply to Chrissy
That will make it warm and lose the taste.

ALCOHOL INCREASETH THE DESIRE BUT DECREASETH THE PERFORMANCE
Spoken like a true health care professional.
In reply to black
You get the point though, it is not just quantity, it is TIME.
Over time doing that WILL damage your liver. (and it differs)
What I SHOULD NOT tell you is that the liver can repair itself. to an extent. It can not repair itself after Cirrhosis sets in though. So drink knowing, enjoy, but moderation ok. every blue moon you can go on a limb... but nightly one or none...
As for alcohol and sex drive.... Dukes is (obliviously) right.
Brother NP: Yes sir to your post above.... bad time to say this, me just had ah cold Guinness - and that is it.
Don't get drunk. My grandpa told me the difference between drunk and still being reasonably sober is one drink. It can be the 5th, 6th or 20th as it varies by individuals and each individual should be able to detect it and quit at that stage....
Now that is safe drinking
In reply to Kay
It's possible to be intoxicated and not appear to be. That's where people get into trouble by driving. It slows reaction time .
In reply to black
This is about feelings not appearance. You can feel when you are starting to lose the ability to function properly
In reply to black
Most people enjoy a drink or two now and then, but an established drinking pattern is a cause for concern.
I now comprehend, the drinking explains a lot about your posts.
In reply to XFactor
I am perfectly fine with having a few on the weekends, the wine is supposedly for the health benefits.
In reply to black
I have friends in the restaurant industry.
Not only is ice a problem. The drinks and beer coming out of the taps and soda guns are full of bacteria, mold, etc. A small percentage of bars/restaurants actually practice consistent and thorough tap cleaning procedures.
Sooooo, the best chance is just drink from the cans. Avoid the taps and soda guns. Too many horror stories to list here.

Drinking is safe once you are not an alcoholic, in which case zero shud be ur number...
Use the twelve questions to evaluate yourself.
In reply to DAVE400
Define alcoholic.
I asked that because some alcoholics might not consider themselves, alchoholics.
In reply to black
"3 beers a night" is by definition an alcoholic.
Don't get carried away though: this is not targeted to u. Any person drinking 3 beers in one go is not an alcoholic. A person drinking 3 beers EVERY night though, is.
Quantity, frequency and dependence point to a problem. Not whether you can handle 10. Not whether you can function NOW... it is the long term effects.
Black: moderation and frequent REST periods does the liver good. Promptly cut out the nightly 3+ beers.
In reply to pelon
I agree.
This is not about me though, just hypothetical.

I suppose it really comes down to how it affects your health, your daily activities, work, home, personal, and friends & family members around you.
If any of those are adversely affected by your drinking, then there is most likely a problem.
In reply to pelon
Working around alcohol for many decades, I saw it destroy a number of people.
One beer equal 1 1/2 oz of liquor or 5oz glass of wine
Drink in moderation people, it destroy lives.
In reply to RemainsUnknown
A number of alcoholics don't think their have a problem.

I know some people who would argue drinking 1 beer improves their driving.
In reply to CricketLuva4
Maybe it takes the edge off being nervous... but "improves?"
In reply to CricketLuva4
One beer won't make a difference for most people.
In reply to openning
That is what I am repeatedly saying in this thread: moderation.
In reply to pelon
One man's moderation is another man's drunkenness.
In reply to black
It is a pity people feel it necessary to use/abuse alcohol.
It has no benefits, like sugar it is bad for one's health and pocketbook.
I say stay away from the damn thing all together.
In reply to RemainsUnknown
Well the key is "1 beer". 1 beer as Black said won't drunk most people, but it can put some over the legal limit depending on weight, etc. (Here in Toronto, it puts drivers 21 and under OVER the limit, as it's zero tolerance).
It was explained as, if you know you may be over the limit, you pay more attention to the road than normal (a lot of people are distracted drivers), and hence drive "better" or "safer".
