Guyana Jaguars vs Barbados Pride at Kensington

Narper 2017-03-23 08:58:00

Leaders Guyana Jaguars (103.2 points) and second placed Barbados Pride (87.4) go head-to-head from today in a historic encounter at the Kensington Oval in the 88th First-Class match between the two sides in the eighth round of their Digicel Regional four-day tournament which will be played over five days.

For the first time ever a Regional First-Class game will have a rest day to be taken after the penultimate day of the contest to accommodate the staging of a T20 International between West Indies and Pakistan on the same.

Narper 2017-03-23 09:00:20

The good news for Guyana is that Shiv Chanderpaul has returned after missing the last match to travel to the USA for personal reasons

The bad news is that Permaul who captured nine wickets in the last match including a seven-wicket haul, is unavailable due to West Indies t20 duties.

The Bajans will be without Jonathon Carter, Jason Holder and Carlos Braithwaite, who have been selected for t20 International series

What did Clinton Pestano do to make the squad ahead of Beaton and Raun Johnson?

Is time Beaton play for another franchise... maybe Leewards could give him a chance.. evil

analyst-kid 2017-03-23 11:51:58

The Jaguars have resorted to an allspin attack....spin did the job last match vs The Leewards...but did the spin bother the Pride batsmen?

These two, Brathwaite and Hope have to be dismissed first....these are test players who have faced India and Pak....I think the rest are easier prey.

Typical first day at Kensington. Windwards made the same last match too...290 odd.

The Guyanese omitted their promising fast bowlers in Beaton and Joseph (maybe they are injured) and went for rookies.

The Bajan bowlers will bowl better on this pitch so we will see what happens tomorrow.

I can recall your posts and was very curious to see if that level of success would translate to the highest level. I have to admit that i was not very impressed when i saw him in the eary stages. He has improved, and has an appetite for runs and should allow him to be a mainstay for us in the test arena. On a side note, i would not run to the park to watch him bat, i would however hurry along to watch the stylist Brooks or Hope any day of the week. Todays play should be fun to watch.

I will bat for Braffit any day of the week...in tests AND ODIs.

Braffit values his wicket....Braffit knows his role in this WI team....it's time the others also know Braffit's role...and play accordingly. I NEVER SUBSCRIBE TO THE CRAP THAT BRAFFIT'S STYLE OF BATTING RESULTS IN OTHERS GETTING OUT

Yesterday Braffit outbatted Shai Hope....a good sign....practice to do this in FC cricket....in preparation for tests where his SR can increase too...depending on match situation

I also thought it funny and a copout when some claimed that Kraigg puts pressure on other batsmen. True his strike rate is far from ideal in ODI,but our cricket is so poor that we need someone who can bat for 20 overs. You are correct, he fully understands his role and values his wicket.

Norm 2017-03-24 16:01:19

Johnson rapped on or about leg stump by Chase. Appeal goes up and the umpire rules it out lbw after a bit of consideration, but Johnson stands his ground in disbelief.

Comms say it was an arm ball, but it looked like a mild leg break that pitched a bit outside leg. Probably a bit unfortunate for Johnson that TV reviews are not available for regional first class matches, but that's the game.

Norm 2017-03-24 16:04:33

Shiv is in he middle now.

Comms read off Shiv's amazing statistics in first class matches against Bdos at Kensington. Three centuries to Shiv at the Oval!

Norm 2017-03-24 16:06:35

Two successive fours by Reifer off Stoute takes Guyana past 100.

Guyana 101-4 in 36 overs. Shiv 13*, Reifer 11*.

Norm 2017-03-24 17:29:06

Shadows stretch across the wicket and popping crease, as Reifer continues to be busy with the bat.

Guyana 119-4 in 41 overs, with Chase and Nurse bowling in tandem. Reifer 25*, Shiv 15*.

Guyana 119-4 in 42 overs, as Shiv calmly plays the last over of the day, from Nurse.

Close of play.

I must give you credit, you weee the first to speak about Chase

met him when he was a mere 14 years old...learning guitar but his passion for cricket was amazing so from week to week I saw his mom and Dad supporting him and encouraging him...especially when Kraigg was getting all the press and he felt somewhat slighted...He never gave up...he said to me he eats breathes and sleeps for cricket...

I am happy as heck for him...and as he matures I know he will cement a solid place at the highest level...injury free so far..praise the lord.

Guyana has been consistent.

Get this man in the Test team!

Cummins and Chase bowled quite well. The regional fast bowling stock has been improving in quality, but player fitness is still a big issue.

As it is, Gabriel now appears to be the fittest (or the only fit?) fast bowler in the region.

Norm 2017-03-25 14:07:37

Bdos might regret enforcing the follow on. They may have to bat last on a wicket that might be pounded by a full day's worth of international cricket.

doosra 2017-03-25 14:08:00

that's a mistake to follow and may work in Guyana's favor

they just need to bat long and don't worry about anything

just bat and bat

to me that is the better chance given to guyana

Cummins to Hety. Leaves one close to off stump alone.

Second ball, on off, driven beautifully to long off for 4!!!

A rising ball outside off take Hety's bat unintentionally, but flies safely thru the gully for 2.

Hety changes his bat after a poorly timed drive off Cummins.

Gun_Play 2017-03-25 14:12:54

Very disappointing that Harding does not get the new ball. Kraigg captaincy as pedestrian as his batting. Following Stoute's lead from the last match but the circumstances were very different.

Norm 2017-03-25 14:24:37

Cummins gets one to rise off a length to Chandrika a strikes him on the glove. Falls safely. Chandrika takes off the glove and is obviously uncomfortable.

Changes his guard and drives a full ball from Cummins straight back beautifully for 4!!!!

Guyana 14-0 in 3 overs. Batsmen confer in the middle, as Chase prepares to continue.

Cummins leaves the field at the end of the over and the substitute Greaves comes on to the field.

Hetmeyer rapidly becoming Blackwood 2.0. An improved version of the earlier model but the same tendency to crash and burn.

Can Leon Johnson earn some of that match fee?

and can he lay some claim to this title if they win it

now is the time

Beamer 2017-03-25 15:11:59

It's so frustrating. Hetmeyer is already my favourite batsman in the Caribbean to watch. All the shots you could possibly want, judges length really quickly and scores runs rapidly.

He needs to be on the next A tour again and get some close attention from Toby Radford and co. It is an absolute crime that he keeps getting out for quickfire 30s and 40s when he can do so much better.

Especially when the likes of Shai Hope and Ambris, who are admittedly 3 or 4 years older, are now cashing in with huge hundreds. I really hope he sorts himself out because there is nobody in the Caribbean that I would rather watch bat.

Shiv to bat again today! Hammers in his bail to mark a middle-and-leg guard.

Drives a pitched up ball from Nurse back overhead to the long on boundary for 4!

Narper 2017-03-25 16:14:46

Vishual drives a delivery on off stump from Nurse to the cover boundary for 4!!

Guyana 87-3 in 29 overs.

Norm 2017-03-25 16:21:53

Warrican to continue, to Shiv. He takes a middle stump guard to the left arm spinner.

Sweeps the 2nd ball he receives, but misses. Hits Warrican powerfully over mid wicket for 4! Then repeats the shot for 4 more!

96-3 in 29(?) overs. Shiv 14*, Vishual 9*.

althes 2017-03-25 16:24:22

Shiv needs to be recalled to the test team.
Just like wine getting better with age.

Norm 2017-03-25 16:26:37

Stoute to bowl, to Shiv. He takes a new (leg stump) guard.

Flicks the 1st ball to fine leg for 1. Shiv is all business here.

Vishual too takes a new guard. Flicks a ball down leg to fine leg for 4! Hundred up!

Stoute's line and length getting better quickly. He's on the brisk side of medium.

Guyana 101-3 in 31 overs.

Norm 2017-03-25 16:32:11

Chase returns and will bowl to Shiv, who takes another guard. Takes a single to point. Singh plays out the rest of the over solidly.

Guyana 102-3 in 32 overs.

Norm 2017-03-25 16:35:27

Stoute again, over the wicket to Shiv. Beats Shiv's defensive prod outside off. Raps Shiv in front of the stumps and appeals, but Shiv takes off for a leg bye.

Appeal wasn't confident, but looked close.

Norm 2017-03-25 16:39:20

Chase again, to Shiv. Cuts a shortish one outside off to third man for 4! Then turns it past square leg for one more.

Vishual continues holding the other end solidly.

Guyana 108-3 in 34 overs.

Norm 2017-03-25 16:42:15

Stoute again, to Shiv. Shiv defends a couple of balls then holds up play for something. Looks like he needed to change his batting gloves.

Shiv drives a fuller delivery from Stoute past the covers fielder for 4 more!

Chase again, to Vishual.

Guyana 112-3 in 36 overs.

Norm 2017-03-25 16:50:49

Cummis returns, bowling to Shiv.

Beats him outside the off stump 1st ball. Shiv cuts the next ball hard to point for 1. Turned behind square by Vishual for another. And then by Shiv for another.

Vishual digs out a good yorker by Cummins.

Guyana 115-3 in 37 overs.

Norm 2017-03-25 16:55:46

Chase continues, to Shiv. Drives to long off for 1.

Guyana 116-3 in 38 overs.

Norm 2017-03-25 16:58:09

Cummins continues, to Shiv.

Down leg, and Cummins loses his footing after delivering. Falls gently to the ground. Beats Shiv's defensive push just outside off next ball.

No ball next, wide outside off. Left alone. Cut to point for 1. Cummins then beats Vishual's defensive push outside off!

Guyana 118-3 in 39 overs.

Norm 2017-03-25 17:02:58

Paint himself to bowl, to Shiv!

First ball is a rank long hop. Single. Next ball is on a decent length, on middle. Defended. Good ball outside off left alone. Long hop down leg left alone! Good ball on middle defended. Last ball on middle defended.

Guyana 119-3 in 40 overs at the close. Shiv 30*, Vishual 14*.

Rest Day tomorrow.

Chase shares the new ball. Maiden.

Guyana 230-6 in 88 overs. 45 minutes to tea.

Norm 2017-03-27 13:56:26

Cummins to Shepherd. Glances him to point for a single. Reifer takes a single behind square. Not shielding Shepherd.

Shepherd edges one on off stump and is caught inches off the grass by the keeper, after a bit of juggling!

Shepherd 1. Reifer 15*.

Bishoo in.

Guyana 232-7 in 89 overs.

Norm 2017-03-27 14:01:03

Another Chase maiden. Guyana 232-7 in 90 overs.

Cummins to Bishoo. Steers him to 3rd man for 2. Bouncer on leg. Bishoo ducks. A lifter on a good length is played down a bit uncomfortably.

Bishoo fans at a rising ball just outside off and is caught behind for 2!

Guyana 234-8!

Norm 2017-03-27 14:10:04

Pestano in.

Punches it into the ground. It lobs up off the ground and is caught by a close in fielder. A fired up Cummins appeals vehemently! Ump says "Not out!"

Guyana 234-8 in 91.

Norm 2017-03-27 14:13:09

Chase again, to Reifer. Another Chase maiden.

Guyana 234-8 in 92 overs.

It will take a miracle to save Guyana now! They failed against Cummins with the second new ball, in both innings.

Norm 2017-03-27 14:16:26

Pestano holds up play for a bit, as repairs are made to his pads. Faces Cummins again. Pestano is fidgeting nervously at the crease, but looking better with each ball faced.

Guyana 235-8 in 93 overs.

Norm 2017-03-27 14:20:57

Chase again. Reifer takes a single off the 1st ball! Moves down and drives to mid-wicket. Single.

Guyana 237-8 in 94 overs.

Pestano to face a full over from Cummins again. No, it's Warrican. Cummins left the field after his spell.

Pestano drives Warrican straight back nicely along the ground for 4!!! Drives to mid-wicket again for 3. Single to Reifer. Pestano heaves it over mid off for 4 more!!

Pestano swings at one wide outside off, edges and it goes thru the keeper's gloves, but lands safely in front of 2nd slip.

Guyana 250-8 in 94 overs.

Norm 2017-03-27 14:29:43

Chase again, to Reifer. Single taken early in the over again!

Pestano heaves it high into the deep, but there's no one there.

Guyana 252-8 in 95 overs. Pestano living dangerously. Comms say 251-8.

Norm 2017-03-27 14:33:05

Warrican again.

Driven beautifully to the cover boundary by Reifer for 4! He goes to 22. Strokes it easily to mid on for another single. Pestano swings hard at one just outside leg but misses. Single off an inside edge that almost hit his stumps!

Cummins goes more to the off stump and Motie straight drives beautifully for 4!

313-9. Motie 21*. Reifer 34*.

Motie drives thru the covers for 2 more.

Beats Reifer's defensive prod just outside off.

Stoute bowling a good line just outside off and moving away, but Reifer is leaving them alone. He is obviously very familiar with Stoute's bowling.

Motie looks better than Johnson and Chandrika

Norm 2017-03-27 15:58:25

Another maiden. 316-9.

Warrican continues, to Motie.

Takes a single off the 1st ball. Reifer turns it behind square and takes another single.

Motie's defense looks perfect. As straight a bat as there ever was!

Drinks at the end of the over, with Guyana 318-9.

Motie turns it to fine leg for 4 more! Edges and is caught by Nurse at 2nd slip!

Guyana 322 all out, in 119.2 overs.

Bdos to get 93 runs in 12 overs. A draw is the most likely outcome.

Only fielding restrictions are no more than 2 behind square on the leg side.

Anything else is fair game....I don't generally agree with that, I think 4th innings should be played with ODI fielding restrictions. But I won't complain as it helps us salvage a draw. smile

cricketmygame 2017-03-27 16:16:51

this chase is still interesting because of the context of the tounament

Norm 2017-03-27 16:19:03

Bajan openers in the middle, and the ground staff are still rolling the pitch!

Apparently there was a dispute between Guyana cappo Johnson and the umpires about the number of overs to be bowled.

Apparently it was decided that 12 overs will be available.

First ball, a short one on leg, from Reifer pulled over square leg for 6 by Shai Hope!!!

This game clearly demonstrates some of the main issues with us.

Imaging swiping for big shots.
No attempt to rotate strike.

Leaving wide balls.
Not chasing wides for singles.

Poor brainless cricket by bim.

Imaging the West Indies batsmen on dis team.

Norm 2017-03-27 17:24:34

In reply to TanteMerle

Poor brainless cricket by bim.

And by Guyana too. Why set such an ultra defensive field with under 8 an over needed?

Bim should have played it in an orthodox manner, while running hard between the wickets and putting away the poor balls for boundaries.

In reply to Curtis Yes they are. Got a Bajan as the main batsman for TnT, a Bajan as the top allrounder for Windwards, and a Bajan as Guyana's go to man when the pressure is on. We are exporting the leadership round the region.

By the way, I think Reifer is taking this professionalism thing to far though. Thwarted Bim almost singlehandedly in each of the last 3 years

Reifer gave them a chance, he was going at over 8 an over in a less than 8 per over chase. Cannot blame him if the batsmen too stupid to take advantage of it.
