How is defaulting on a business loan a criminal offense? If there was no fraud in the application I don't see a case!

My guess is that his creditors served him with documents which required his attendance in court such as a debtors examination, he didn't show up, and a bench warrant was issued.
In reply to camos
he went into hiding
that alone says enough

but not showing up in court would not stop trial, would only guarantee the creditors victory! Seems act/acts of fraud took place somewhere along the process.

some people are embarrassed at failure, that could send him hiding.

Not showing up for court (even civil proceedings) will result in a contempt of court charge and the issuance of a bench warrant for his arrest.
But you might be right that there are also criminal fraud charges that the police want to lay against him personally.

Does Mallya still own and control the F1 franchise Force India?

In reply to SnoopDog
Haven't kept track of it..I am sure he transferred control just like RCB..these crooks game the system too darn well..
In reply to Khaga
Or he probably sold it.
