Narper 2017-03-26 11:25:39

Top eight teams in the ICC ODI rankings by the September 2017 cut-off date will get direct entry into the 2019 World Cup, while the final two berths will have to be contested in a World Cup qualifier in 2018.

At the moment, Pakistan and West Indies are placed eighth and ninth, and could have a lot to play for.

Narper 2017-03-26 11:34:08

"Family and friends have been sticking close, but the pressure has increased from outside. But it's just a matter of understanding it won't happen every day," Brathwaite said, on the eve of the first of four T20Is against Pakistan.

"You'll fail more times than you perform, I think I've come to grips with that. I've begun to level my own expectations, which probably were more than the expectations of others."

Pakistan won the toss and elected to field

Narper 2017-03-26 12:09:35

Carlos Brathwaite:
I actually wanted to bat first and put some runs on the board. It seems like a good pitch, the ball will come onto the bat. We are playing at home and we are confident. Unfortunately, Jason Mohammed and Jerome Taylor miss out.

Rovman Powell makes his T20I debut.

Narper 2017-03-26 12:10:55

Sarfraz Ahmed: The preparation for this tour has been good. We have enough (depth) in the squad.

Eighteen-year-old legspinner Shadab Khan, who impressed in the PSL, makes his international debut for Pakistan.

Kamran Akmal returns for his first international after nearly three years.

Narper 2017-03-26 12:15:15

Pitch Report -
It is devoid of any live grass. I think it is rolled hard enough. The ball will come through with good bounce like a typical Kensington Oval track. The ball should come onto the bat nicely. The boundaries are 75 meters all around. Hopefully, a high scoring game, reckons Ian

Narper 2017-03-26 12:23:08

They are showing a close up of the pitch....looks good

Imad Wasim to Lewis, 1 run, tad fuller in length, Lewis slashes it with no feet movement. Gets a thick outside edge towards point and gets off the mark with a single

goliath 2017-03-26 12:34:30

At the risk of goat-mouthing - this is a better batting lineup than that in the UAE a few months back...most of the batsmen can handle themselves with spin

Hafeez to Lewis, SIX, short delivery and Lewis climbs on it in a flash. Doesn't time it that well, but has enough to sail over the deep mid-wicket feilder with a pull. First maximum of the day

Tough luck for Lewis. That was positive running but direct hit from that distance is a rare occurrence

6.3
Imad Wasim to Samuels, out Lbw!! Samuels departs. It was a straight delivery and he tries to play it across the line and perishes. The ball sneaks past the inside edge and thuds the back pad. Umpire had no doubts in mind and rules it in favour of the bowler.

Samuels lbw b Imad Wasim 7(14) [4s-1]

JamMack 2017-03-26 12:56:23

Samuels with a neat clip off the legs for that previous boundary. Walton looks more comfortable than Samuels. Food stuff so far as both batsmen are rotating the strike and seem to be communicating well.

7.2
Shadab Khan to Walton, out Lbw!! Another bites the dust. First International wicket for Shadab Khan. It was a googly that brings him the delight. Walton was well forward to defend. He plays for the leg-break and misses. The ball pings him in front of middle and leg. Height could have been an issue, but Joel Wilson thinks it was going onto crash the stumps

Walton lbw b Shadab Khan 18(18 ) [4s-1 6s-1]

Shadab Khan to Narine, out Caught by Imad Wasim!! Half the side are back in the hut now. Narine tries to be fancy. Goes for the slog sweep across the line and doesn't get it anywhere near the meat of the bat. The top edge skies under long-on and Imad Wasim takes it comfortably.

Pollard to Babar Azam, FOUR, heaves, has heart in his mouth but the ball evades the man at long-on. Only just. Then runs away into the fence. The man there could have given it a dive. Gets a glare from Pollard

Carlos Brathwaite: The collapse in the middle [was responsible for this loss]. The debutant [Shadab Khan] came out and did well. It was always difficult to come back after the collapse. We did well in the end to get to 111. We don't have too much of a gap. It might be a good thing or a bad thing. It was a little weight off my shoulder as I got runs.

Narper 2017-03-26 15:55:21

PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Shadab Khan

Shadab Khan: The prayers of my parents helped. I will try to keep performing well as I did today and help Pakistan win. The conditions were good for the spinners. They were similar to the conditions in PSL.

Narper 2017-03-26 15:55:44

Sarfraz Ahmed: Credit goes to the bowlers. The young Shadab did really well. Mentally we were at the top. But we aren't relaxing. Shadab bowled well in the PSL. I asked him to bowl same lines. No easing up.
