Why not play matches at different stadiums

thefacts 2017-04-07 10:33:25

OK, i can see why all 3 ODIs are played in One Region for costs.

But why can't atleast different stadiums be used to get better game attendance?

Give the smaller grounds the weekday games.....

Surely 1 game each for Providence, Berbice and Bourda would have been better

In reply to anthonyp

that's my exact point..

keep the big grounds for weekends and give the week day games to other grounds

How much cost will go up, by playing a game each at - Berbice and Bourda on the weekday games

It really is a shame if what you say is true.. I thought club cricket was very much actively played at the Bourda.

Would it matter? Our people have lost interest unless it is a T20 which is really a fete with cricket as the backdrop.

Why add extra days to the schedule for taking down and setting up equipment for each game? Or are you suggesting using two sets of equipment?

thefacts 2017-04-07 14:25:44

In reply to StumpCam

Just imagine the corruption of the WICB, with so much funds coming, yet there are no first class cricket grounds!!

Even more a case to GO ALONE!

In reply to Maispwi

Obviously not.

I think when you say this:

Why add extra days to the schedule for taking down and setting up equipment for each game?

it epitomises our culture of doing the absolute bare minimum towards any work.

Now even taking down and setting up equipment is more important than putting people in the stands.

Exactly.
cool

You think the extra people in the stadium will cover the cost of the additional days?

When people used to watch de Windies dey planned their vacation around cricket series. Dis excuse of work eh holding water. People eh want to watch dem play.. Let dem start winning again and see if the crowds doh improve.

Yep, the problem is all the countries basically only have one international venue. Jamaica maybe the except with Trelawney. Maybe Antigua with ARG?

Am a Caribbean man and a fan who used to catch a lime to see de WI play in different regional grounds. Ah doh need google.

Ah see you conveniently left out Albion

Maispwi 2017-04-07 17:52:14

In reply to jen

Why would the countries maintain more than 1 ground to international standard when dey might not get more dan 1 or two games a year on average?

Maybe the go it aloners could use dat as leverage

thefacts 2017-04-07 21:40:39

In reply to jen

With a little investment, all the big 4 can have easily 2 grounds minimum

Just need to invest in a mounds like sitting arrangement with world class pavilions for players and media

The essence being, who says all stadiums have to be of the same type

Let there be one big stadium per region and then smaller grounds with their own characters

ARG
Bourda
The new Lara Stadium
UWI Ground
Etc
Etc

Have you seen Bourda recently?? It is heartbreaking to see what the once famous Bourda has become. The Lance Gibbs and Clive Lloyd stands are broken down. The Kanhai Stand is in disrepair and the field is uneven and full of potholes. It is not fit for first division cricket

thefacts 2017-04-07 23:04:56

In reply to Dukes

I am sure you are giving a 100% right account of the Bourda ground.

So my position remains that with some investment (minimum), these grounds be repaired...

Simple things like :

1. Create mounds instead of stands... just grass mounds.
2. Create a unique small ground atmosphere, which makes the ground special.

dayne 2017-04-08 07:14:51

Instead of depending on the Cricket Boards the Clubs should be taking care of their grounds, how about the club players volunteering to paint and repair the stands? How about the Club holding some parties to fund raise? WI's culture need to be retune, group self-help should be instill in the young.
