Given the way Pakistan destroyed pace, I wouldn't be surprised if WI go with all 3 spinners, Holder and Al-Jo sharing the new ball and Carter to provide some medium pace if need be.

Narper 2017-04-11 09:07:55

West Indies have brought in Permaul for Alzarri Joseph - Gabriel has been passed fit.

Permaul in for Al-Jo, Gabriel passed fit.

Not a bad move, we should open the bowling with Permaul IMO.

Al Jo must learn to relax...he was too argumentative with the skipper....who could not depend on him to bowl the last over.

Permaul can deliver if this pitch plays like the 2nd ODI. He can clout a few runs too.

CricketLuva4 2017-04-11 09:17:32

In reply to Narper

I actually prefer Permaul to Bishoo in 50 over cricket, Bishoo for tests. What says you?

Narper 2017-04-11 09:33:03

9.30am Well, folks, we will have a delayed start. There is rain lurking and the covers are on the edge of the square. A damp outfield appears to be the problem

Narper 2017-04-11 09:34:35

There's a little drizzle going on. Play won't be getting underway on time. Heavy cloud cover over and around the venue.

Narper 2017-04-11 09:40:19

Sarfraz: We don't know about the weather but we wanted to bowl first. Looks a damp pitch. Bowlers came back after the first match. Same team for us.

Holder: We're going to bat. We've got the left arm spinner to boost us. We try not to play to the weather. Whether we bat first, or bowl first, we try to play good cricket and challenge our guys. In time we'll be able to define our batting identity. Our two openers are very aggressive. At the end of the day, we have guys in the middle order to come and stabilize things. We have one change. Permaul comes in place of Alzarri Joseph.

1.1
Junaid Khan to Walton, 3 runs, full on the pads from Junaid, Walton flicks it past square leg and Amir has plenty of work to do running around from fine leg. He does well to flick it back inside. Easy three

7.1
Junaid Khan to Lewis, OUT, short of a length, and pulled to deep square leg! That's a bit of a giveaway...his eyes lit up at the short ball, he went for the pull but sent it straight to Hafeez who was in off the boundary a touch and took the catch very well above his head

7.3
Junaid Khan to Walton, FOUR, loose from Walton and he's lucky to get away. Goes fencing at a back of a length delivery away from the body and gets the edge. There is a fly slip in place who is way too wide. The ball bisects him and the keeper

Dat is not strike rate...it is RPO.

Which translates to 73.33 runs per over...which way above Snail's overall 57.77.

Shai is really struggling today...that pitch may be a bit more difficult to bat on as it appears. The slower bowlers are keeping it tight. Maybe WI read the pitch well.

Lets wait and see.

Narper 2017-04-11 11:21:48

18.5
Imad Wasim to K Powell, out Stumped!! Lot of flight does the trick. That had a lot of hang-time for the batsman to dance down and still miss it. The ball also turned in to beat the inside edge and the keeper does the rest. There is a lot of turn on this wicket as that ball ripped in as well.

Gabriel to Ahmed Shehzad, no run, dropped at mid-on! Pakistan are absolutely rocking right now, and this could have put them under serious pressure. A full ball, stops on Shehzad as he closes the bat-face. Almost like Kamran Akmal got out. Only that this time the ball pops up to the left of mid-on and it's not a straightforward chance. Walton has to sprint to his left. He dives full stretch but can't cling on. Once he got there, he really should have taken it

Holder to Ahmed Shehzad, out Caught by Shai Hope!! The pressure has got to Shehzad. He tries to manufacture a shot out of nothing and perishes. The ball was too close to cut and it skidded on quickly from a back of a length, Shehzad is cramped as he slashes at it. The outside edge is found pretty high up on the bat and Hope takes a really good catch. It seemed he was going the other way initially but then recovers and dives across to hold onto it.

Gabriel to Babar Azam, out Bowled!! This is massive. The in-form Babar Azam has played on. Pakistan are in big trouble now. The ball wasn't there for the drive, but Azam's form made him see it differently. He reaches out on the front foot, plays away from the body and drags it back onto leg-stump. Gabriel's front foot is checked but is fine. Half and half.

I continue to be sickened how we can pick Permaul over Cornwall in a 50 over match. All the List A success Cornwall has had over the past 2 years means nothing to our selectors.

Check the bowling averages in the last super50. He performed better than Cornwall. Permaul has been ignored by the selectors for years

Cornwall 10 wickets @31

Permaul 12 wickets @ 24

BTW....I would select Cornwall ahead of Permaul

Larr Pullo 2017-04-11 16:54:42

The reason why Permaul SHOULD continue to be ignored is that he's just not a good spinner for this level of cricket. He should be treated the same way like they treat Miller.

Jason Holder: We did not get enough runs. We thought it would spin. They played spin really well and we did not get wickets. We started well with the ball, we had them under pressure but did not get wickets in the middle overs. Credit to Hafeez and Malik. Credit to the groundsman for producing one of the better pitches here at Guyana.

Judgement 2017-04-11 18:10:59

In reply to solidrock

Then you have definitely not seen his recent matches. He costs the Leewards dearly often. Yes he is good on his day, but so is everyone else. With his weight "restrictions" it is simply a risk we cannot take in the international squad. The Coach, Jimmy and selectors came to watch them bat recently and he messed up badly with both bat and ball in both innings. He is not ready and for all those calling for his inclusion, do not backtrack once you fast discover he cannot possibly compete at this level - yet.

Judgement 2017-04-11 18:13:27

In reply to mikesiva

Exactly. He is a consistent misfielder and recently went for a horrendous amount of runs in a number of matches - and that too at regional level so imagine sending him on the England tour rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes

Narper 2017-04-11 18:13:59

Shoaib Malik, Man of the Match and Man of the Series: Yeah, I am very happy. Being a senior cricketer you have extra responsibility. I have to credit Hafeez. He kept hitting the boundaries and took all the pressure off me. I never felt any pressure on me. When you are chasing 234, you have to try and bat out 50 overs. I have to congratulate Sarfraz for the way he's conducting the boys. Winning the series was on our minds. The West Indian team played really well.

Narper 2017-04-11 18:15:06

Sarfraz Ahmed: First, I will thank the almighty. Our bowlers really bowled well. Then Hafeez and Malik batted really well on a tough wicket in the second innings. No amount of praise is enough for the experienced batters. The credit goes to all of them. It was important ahead of the Champions Trophy. The boys listen to me despite me getting angry on them at times. I do keep my calm from behind the sticks as well.
