Name fav Elegant Batsman

Trinidave 2017-04-13 16:15:38

Seeing Duj in the headlines, I thought of this topic. List your favourite elegant batsman that you've seen. (Note -- This is not your favorite batsman, or the best batsman, or best batting genius, or most eye-catching)

I'll start with a few from "recent" years gone by.
These batsmen were silky smooth as butter, pure languid artistry.
Carl Hooper
Jeffrey Dujon
VVS Laxman

Note: I do not list Lara here, as I consider him a batting genius, who was a combination of flair, swash-buckle, and elegance. (See cover drive.)

Azharuddin

So as a young fella, very very young fella, TriniD went to a Test Match in QPO, and India was under some serious pressure, and the Indian batsmen were struggling to get the ball away.

Azharuddin came intuh de wicket, and the ball just FLOWED from his bat, like oil. He ONLY scored 20-something, but it just stood out. Smooth.

BTW . Dilip Vengsarker was another smooth as butter batsman.

Trinidave 2017-04-13 17:37:29

Can TriniD add. As much as TriniD likes T20, and TriniD likes dat format, it could probably spell de end of de elegant batsman.

These batsmen were still born into a world without T20.

TriniD's concern is about de T20-illennials.

Some a de names allyuh puttin up here aint elegant. Rowe was super elegant for sure,Abbas,Gower, Sobers when he wanted to be, Mathis wasnt bad either, so too Timur. Some say Greg C was easy on the eyes. But Rowe it is for me on both sides of the pitch not one sided like some espicially the caress square of the leg side, the beautiful caressing cover drive, and the most delicate of late cuts 2 inches from the keepers gloves.

Dujon and Bacchus?

Some may disagree but I think Larry Gomes was an elegant batsman, good timer of the ball, fluent, played the ball on the ground.

I'm a bit left field in what batsmen I find elegant - not bothering to name the ones who have been regurgitated already, and naming players I have watched in recent times:

Sangakkara
Williamson
Damien Martyn
Mark Waugh
VVS
Vaughan

Also, out of WI batsmen I've watched in recent times, I find Jase Holder the most pleasing on the eye.

Aneil Rajah. Elegant batsman, brilliant fielder. Averaged only around 30. Graduate that today's dung heap, that would be about 40. LOL Still elegant though.
