The best thing about the new team is....
In reply to Larr Pullo
no carlos is a close 2nd
In reply to Larr Pullo
devon for powell and i call it a good 13
that they replace Johnson with Hetmyer and Chandrika with Singh. You and Narper , Runs are happy
In reply to tc1
Johnson and Chandrika should not be near any test team...
In reply to tc1
Finally, Larr, Narps and Runs find something they can hold hands together on
Cricket is such a unifying sport
In reply to Prako
Not too sure, Devon would have sealed the deal for my fellow Guyanese brother.
In reply to Larr Pullo
The worst thing about this Test team is that it's going to get crushed, and in the process become the first West Indies Test team to lose a home Test series against Pakistan....
In reply to Runs
Definitely not, because i'll call Bishoo out for bowling skunt and y'all will get your panties in a bunch...
I disagree, this is an exciting young team, I expect them to show fight.
In reply to Larr Pullo
Bishoo needs to mix it up
In reply to Larr Pullo
and the worst thing is that it ent really new
In reply to mikesiva
I'm thinking that this team has some talent and balance. Batsmen batting in their natural spots, no makeshift openers etc... That said, I think Hetmyer will debut before Singh, since I'm pretty sure they'll give Blackwood another shot in the middle order to solidify his place.
In reply to Runs
Bishoo could only bowl what he know.
In reply to Larr Pullo
Needs to hang out with Yasir
In reply to Prako
No more higher stanadard for muddies
In reply to Runs
Needs to hang out with Yasir
Rajendra Dhanraj is working with Bishoo
I expect Bishoo to stop bowling the 4 balls on a regular basis...and to start using the googly more often
In reply to Larr Pullo
There were only 3 changes to the team, so where is this great talent coming from, Hetmyer and Singh are still 30+ players and Powell is a recycled sub 30 at test.
Powell, Hetmyer and Singh vs Samuels, lil Bravo and Johnson, where is the upgrade in talent
In reply to mikesiva
The worst thing about this Test team is that it's going to get crushed
I remember former coach John Dyson's famous comment...
"These players are inexperienced and lack some of the more basic skills." (paraphrased)
In reply to tc1
Hetmyer is going to shut a lot of people up. It might not be in this series but eventually everybody will acknowledge him to be a good solid test player. Check Sarwan and Chanderpaul at the beginning of their test careers.
In reply to Dukes
I think most fans who saw him at under 19 are hoping that he maturs into a quality Test bats. Am in JA and looking forward to his debut.
In reply to NYCGURU
Enjoy Paradise!!!
In reply to tc1
What's your problem dude? You jus looking to piss on all the threads that mention Hetmyer and Singh although everyone ignoring you
You may just end up with a heart attack if one of them is selected and get some runs
In reply to Dukes
I prefer to be shut up in this opening series...the last thing we need is another Devon Smith **
Both of whom were much more proven commodities at the FC level before their test cap...Hetmyer is not on their level at the same stage..I must respectfully disagree
In reply to Kay
have you seen your postings and that of some of your muddies on 30 odd Avg the past. you cannot degrade a 30 avg player and now when the shoe is on your foot say' mine' 30 avg player will be great.
let be real here.
I just watched Blackwood's inning against the Pride, he is more suitd for the shortest version than any other style.
He will not build any inning in a test match, he is just not a fighter.
In reply to SirGarny
I think Dukes getting senile! Both Chanderpaul and Sarwan were miles ahead at this stage!
In reply to SirGarny
Or another Dwayne Smith ....who has the fastest test ton for a debutant....but nothing after.
IMO...Hety is not quite ready.....especially in the context of this perennial weak and inexperienced WI batting team...a team without established batting stars...all rookies trying to find their way
I remember Xavier Marshall....same scenario is being played all over again..
In reply to openning
He will not build any inning in a test match, he is just not a fighter
Remember this test...Bklackwood was hailed as a fighter
I believe Blackwood could be a fighter if he WANTS to be a fighter
But I also believe Blackwood wants to follow his buddie Russell into IPL
In reply to tc1
You want to post them?
In reply to SirGarny
Both of whom were much more proven commodities at the FC level before their test cap...Hetmyer is not on their level at the same stage..I must respectfully disagree
Back in the day,I would bring a boatload of statistics to prove my point. Now I just smile and leave it alone because of the age of trump.
Carry on smartly.
In reply to StumpCam
Yuh probably right.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
In reply to openning
Blackwood is a good batsman. He just likes to hit the ball. I don't necessarily think that he's trying to go play T20. He just hasn't learned how to graft. I think he'll play in the first test at least.
In reply to Dukes
Come on....is not like you haven't been off the mark before.
Case in point Ronnie. Lucky for him....and you....he was out of the game early or else his test average would have been south of 40.
In reply to Larr Pullo
what happen to chandrika is he even playing for Guyana?
In reply to mikesiva
Rain may play
Went to Sabina today - WI were training - watched for a few.
Exchanged a few words with some of the Yard U15 team and coach. Nice kids.
In reply to imusic
Stick to tennis bro.
Yuh might see me next year at Indian Wells.
In reply to Dukes
I always do boss. This is my fifth trip and the cricket is just an added bonus.
In reply to NYCGURU
The cricket spoiled my trip in 2004 when WI made 47 and the man I went to see made a double duck!!!LOL
In reply to Narper
Can you tell me what was Sarwan's first class average when he stepped on the field to play his first test match?
Like a good lawyer,I know the answer to the question I ask.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
In reply to Dukes
Like another good lawyer I am going to ask you...in what context are you posing this question?
Because as another good lawyer I believe your question is irrelevant
BTW....after reading all dem Perry Mason novels as a teenager...I so badly wanted to be a lawyer...but my father and my school bullied me to pursue natural science...the closest I have reached in law today is in Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs
In reply to Runs
can bishoo bowl the googly and flipper?
In reply to jcveletta
Yes, problem is he does not bowl often and am thinking its due to his lack of confidence bowling them.
In reply to openning
He will not build any inning in a test match, he is just not a fighter.
Let me ask u something, in that innings where did Blackwood score his runs?
Did they sail over the boundary or was it over the infield and away for 4?
In reply to Dukes
I state, regarding Shiv and Sarwan...
you replied..
Dukes...in what way is Hetmeyer further ahead than Shiv and Sarwan at the time of their first call-up? Educate us...please...because I'm not the only one who's respectfully disagreeing with you.
In reply to SirGarny
As I said before,THIS IS THE AGE OF TRUMP
In reply to Dukes
when you say ahead do you mean
1. fc matches played
2. fc runs scored
3. fc average
ahead is a qualitative metric and one that can be shaped any which way
HAHAHAHA
In reply to doosra
Dukesy behaving like Trump...in the age of Trump
Even without a few clicks...I can tell you Shiv made 140 against the touring Paks before he made test cricket...in fact Shiv was a decent legspinner
And I can tell you also Sarwan made tons in both innings at Guaraca Trinidad against Zimbabwe before he made the test team
HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE in the age of Trump!!!!
In reply to Narper
I wonder why you refuse to answer my question.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
In reply to doosra
Please show me where I said anybody was ahead of anybody else.
PAY ATTENTION!!!!!!
Do not let people put up straw men and distract you.You are smarter than that.
In reply to doosra
Obviously there was a comparative analysis done for Hetmyer v Sarwan and Chanderpaul for test and FC.
You need to get an appreciation of this comparative analysis to prove or disprove Dukes' "point."
Below is evidence that a comparable analysis exercise was indeed conducted by Dukes. As a statsman Doosie, don't fall for codswallop...pursue your point, ask for the comparative analysis or tell Dukes put up or shut up.
In reply to Dukes
Because yuh seh you already know de answer...so i assume you are one of dem 'bare foot' lawyer...
So doan try dat wid me Dukesy
BTW don try to mamaguy Doosra...doan butter de guy up about smarts...'when you say ahead do you mean'...answer dat implied question

I will answer the question when Trump releases his tax returns.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
In reply to Narper

Those are the numbers gentlemen
In reply to doosra
Now you have done.....check de relevant HE HE stats I have posted
Dukesy can't handle those
In reply to doosra
What was each batsman's stats at 25 innings?
In reply to mikelegend
Look chap ...Hety only played 18 innings to date
So ...so many alyuh running alyuh mouth without knowing de stats?
Maybe not you ...but so many others
In reply to Narper
Merely using the stats posted by Doosra....so I guess we can go of the stats of the first 18 innings by each batsman to do a comparison.
In reply to mikelegend
Okay.....
But this thread has deteriorated .....AND DUKESY A SENIR POSTER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS
I am sorry if I came across a lil abrasive to you
In reply to Narper
No problem man. I don't get involved in the nonsense...I'm strictly cricket. Btw, I can't compare these guys, because I opine that the quality of opposition each faced at their respective time was vastly different.
In reply to doosra
The point I was making is that merely looking at stats such as averages is not helpful when looking at prodigys such as Shiv,Sarwan and now Hetmyer.
Of the 3 only Shiv had a very good average but even he was not scoring as much runs as Roland Holder.I remember that very well because Jeff Dujon was very vocal in his criticism of the selectors in picking Shiv ahead of Holder and I remember the words of the late Pat Legall that Shiv was going to prove Dujon wrong.Pat was very proud of his two proteges Shiv and Sarwan as he was Manager of the Under 19 Guyana teams that both played in.
This is not new.Lloyd was made to wait while Lashley and Brancker tour England.Saran was made to wait out the 2 test matches vs Zimbabwe while Wavell played and we will see if Hetmyer has to wait.
Sarwan has been one of my favorite players even before he made his test debut.I saw him make a century in Under 19 cricket and my good friend Pat Legall was very high on him and I thought after his century in each Innings he would play against Zimbabwe but he did not.
At the end of the day I am confident that Hetmyer will have a long and successful test career and all this discussion will be forgotten.
In reply to Dukes
http://caribbeancricket.com/topic/1133755/4#
You with this again, Lashley scored more runs than LLoyd, Brancker / Holford were allrounders picked for the English tour.
Holder was in great form and should have played but Hoops was not making runs and WI refused to drop him, Holder had to wait another 3 years before getting a chance and failed.
In reply to tc1
Of course Lashley scored more runs than Lloyd. THAT IS MY POINT!!!!!
In reply to Dukes
i am a Hety fan
i was personally thinking 1 more season for him but he's here and i back him
i have watched him bat many times and i am convinced he can bat. he plays some outrageous shots ...there's a little short arm jab/pull thru/over midwicket...look out for it...of course like most lefties he;s a cutter as well
he hits it hard too
In reply to doosra
It takes a lot of confidence for somebody to make the step up from youth cricket to first class and still play your natural shots. As I mentioned previously, to average 35 with a strike rate of 77 is remarkable. When you look at most people with that strike rate in first class cricket their average is usually in the teens.
In reply to Dukes
ok, as that stage Lashley(66) is crampy, not a smooth batsman like 58 or 60 , he preferred to Nurse.
I heard some use to call left- handed Frankie.
I saw him as a boy and KD Boyce the leg-spinner made a mess of him, but Boyce as a leg-spinner made a meal out of many.
In reply to Dukes
i check his boundary hitting percentage the other day and he's close to 70%
In reply to Dukes
his average this season is well above 40
Please doh ask me what I am laughing at.
..............................
Only two fellas brought "truckloads of stats" to the table and they opted for a truce.
In reply to doosra
Whatever happened to Hety's big brother? He was a decent bat too. Will he ever get a chance to play FC cricket?
In reply to Courtesy
Two big old hard-back men carrying on like they have no upbringing...
In reply to Larr Pullo
In fairness to Narper, he did not start it. He just returned a spark with brimstone and fire.
In reply to Larr Pullo
Seon just play first division now. like he not into in that much.
he played Intercounty last year i think
not sure he is making enough progress to fc
In reply to Larr Pullo
As I said. ...
Bravo was a big loss. Once we lost bravo we should have retained Samuels and Blackwood. Yes they are inconsistent and average just over 30. But to drop these two for guys who can't even dream of averaging 30 in test cricket was stupidity!
Are we missing the Icon and DB now?
In reply to mikelegend
What was each batsman's stats at 25 innings?
Good point.
In reply to doosra
Dukes like some know-it-all. Knows it all and still don't know nothing. 🙄
In reply to mikesiva
Well..maybe the selectors thought that FC cricket in Pakistan is as abominable as it is here...
