Selectors got scammed by some fans that the next stars will deliver today and selectors got it wrong again. Instead of playing Blackwood who consistently scores in test matches, they selected players who apparently can only put up big scores in regional Dungheap matches! The player with the most half centuries than any other young player got dropped, how is that working out for WI?

Only WI drops a 31+ player for a 17.0 player??
In reply to Slipfeeler
Only in the WI..a 31 player may feel he is a permanent fixture in the test side and he doesn't have to do dick in dungheap
In reply to Slipfeeler
Kraigg got drop in ODIs for Walton, who he totally out batted in the Super50 competition.
ya'll rejoiced.
So clearly it's nationality thing for ya'll, no interest in the WI team.
In reply to Gun_Play
Don't change the topic, Kraigg is not an ODI player he was just accumulating dot balls. 75% dots cannot win ODI matches.
In reply to Narper
So changing a relatively consistent test player to a failed test player will make WI great again?
In reply to Slipfeeler
Change what topic?
I just stated a fact... Kraigg out batted Walton in our regional competition and was dropped for him, he averages less than 10 in ODI cricket.
So what is the difference between the two instances?
Nationality... plain and simple.
And its so sad you can not see it.
In reply to Gun_Play
I like KB as a Test player. As,a ODI or T20 player he can stay at the Local level but at Top end day levels the days of 250 winning ODI are long gone as is 8 runs an over T20s. Teams at the top have batsmen who open blazing away for 8 to 9 run rates in both ODI formats. Even if one only scores 20 to 30 but in 3 overs they will live with that. Im not saying Walton is the answer though;actually I believe Mohammed is better suited to open as he likes the quicks.
In reply to Slipfeeler
With a 31 average? As a specialist batsman?

You realize you just as guilty right?
No problem with the dropping.
By this same principle...Hope should be replaced shortly
In reply to imusic
How am I guilty?
Kraigg was dropped.
I didn't bawl for Kraigg because he wasn't setting the world on fire in ODI cricket.
Walton came in an any player that plays for the WI I support.
In reply to DIEHARD
there is no problem with the dropping, the problem is the replacement!
In reply to Slipfeeler
Well, selectors dropped a 50+ player, and I cyant recall seeing any outcry, so they r being consistent... aint?
In reply to tops
Yeah they did drop Viv !! I forgot!! And dem stupid OZ drop Pup too! . All over selectors consistent
In reply to Gun_Play
Really now?
U STILL bawlin
In reply to imusic
Show me where?
Clearly drawing comparisons gone over your head.
In reply to imusic
Kraigg is worthy of the bawl...ent?
In reply to Scar
"All over selectors consistent"
Xactaly! So, no crying/bawling...
In reply to Slipfeeler
Hope will be less than 17 at this rate.
The new Devon Smith? Make runs regionally but found wanting at the test level?
In reply to DIEHARD
Given Blackwood's recent form, I agree 100%
This is what I can't understand.
Hope's selection is justified? After 13 test innings, a top score of 41 and an average of 17?
Yet Blackwood, who averages 31 after 39 innings, is somehow a worse option for Windies who feel they have a better chance to win with a batsman who averages 18?
Hope's selection has more to do with his country of origin than it does with basic cricket logic.
team selection will always be a contentious issue
I expected Blackwood and Cummins to sit...It made sense, since Blackwood should have been dropped long ago but he was persisted with regardless of his returns at test, ODI and FC level (some Players enjoy this)
Hopes' returns at Test level has been paltry (not wanting to use the experimentation they did with him as an excuse), however he continues to put up the numbers in the ODI and at the FC level and hangs on to his spot, I am sure he knows he needs to come good in this series otherwise he will lose his spot in the squad
In reply to hawk
Hope is the real deal, he will come good, he is too good to fail long term, have faith.
My two cents worth...
The underlying issue here is not that Hope replaced Blackwood, but because Blackwood was dropped so as to accommodate two debutants. Both Hope and Blackwood should've played, with a choice made between Hetymer and Singh. Any of the two would've sufficed, with the other having the opportunity to debut in the near future.
The selectors/management blew it again.
In reply to tc1
he better do it soon, patience is a commodity that has a habit of running out at key times
In reply to tc1
We've heard this song before...
we've even seen batsmen with great international starts (Barath, Dwayne Smith,) and even Wavel Hinds...but end up with 32 averages or less..and then dropped in favor of batsmen who average 10 runs less!!!
Don't believe me? Count the amount of opening partners Chris Gayle has had while playing test cricket.
The best FC batsman that the region has produced, in terms of runs, averages, and centuries...is Kraig Brathwaite.
His test average is 37! Hope (no pun intended) that puts it into perspective.
In reply to Slipfeeler
Both suck

appreciate the eloquence

How do you figure that?
In reply to mikesiva
Exactly but at least Devon made a few runs, can hardly day the same about Hope with an average of now less than 17.0 and highest score of 41.
WI #4 position like #3 are usually for our stellar batsmen, only Blackwood, Samuels or Mohammed are the only players currently available to play those positions, that's the fact, now many cannot handle the truth! Non-selection does not affect the truth.
In reply to WerlBoss
How do you figure that?
Forgive me for the sweeping generalization....
I'm basically using 3 qualifiers:
a) the last few years...the post Lara years to be specific
b) success level prior to getting first Windies call-up, and
c) production at the test level
Darren Bravo has a higher test average at 40 but Barath & Brathwaite had comparatively more behind them at the time of call-up.
Barath was a huge disappointment at the test level with a average of 23 despite his huge FC success
In reply to SirGarny
Many batsmen are regional bullies much like Hope but have enormous difficulties in making that ultimate transition into consistent test players. I am not sure if there are coaching issues or a lack of comprehension or psychological motivation as how to play against opponents at a test or international level. Conversely, players like Blackwood and Dowrich, although they are not considered prolific scorers in regional matches but always find a way to perform at test level.
If WI really intents on investing in Hope, they might have to send him for coaching and training in Australia or England, he has the talent but somehow yet to prove himself as a test player.

Me think you are the one who blew it. Why both Hope and Blackwood should have played? Are you a proponent of mediocrity? Blackwood deserves to be in any starting 11 before Hope. The decision to debut two newbies should not be the issue, but whether Blackwood or Hope sits
In reply to Kay
Spoken like a proud Muddie.
In reply to Drapsey
No need to say more than I HOPE that Blackwood will make his bat do all of his talking!
Hope's Test average is now below 17...how far can it go?
You know maybe they made a mistake not having Blackwood in the 11. It does not mean his inculsion would have made any difference. I guess they choose the guy's who performed in the presidents 11. We can still hold this one out
Blackwood has that X factor and has come good many times for West Indies in crisis situations. No way I would have replaced him for Singh for this match. He also brings something in the field with his speed and agility...plus he bowls as well.
In reply to mikesiva
As Yadi said...Devon Smith is a different player now and if given the opportunity now, we should see the difference.
In reply to Bestian
I would have kept Singh and moved Blackwood up to 3 or 4, i.e:-
3. Blackwood/Hope
4. Blackwood/Hope
5. Singh
Another option would have been calling up Reifer to play at 6 with Chase moving up to 5 i.e.
3. Blackwood
4. Singh
5. Chase
6. Reifer
Both the WICB and Darren Bravo need to bring an end to that saga and get the guy back into the team, i.e.
3. Bravo
4. Blackwood
5. Singh/Chase
6. Chase/Singh/Reifer
