Unprecedented.

Another skipper guilty of over-bowling himself?

I do not know if he is doing it, but Cornwall should intensify his fitness program if he wants to get into the WI Test team.

Narper 2017-04-22 09:01:06

AB Fudadin c Carty b Cornwall 6

1-35 (Fudadin, 10.1 ov)

Looks like he started to bowl early too

Drapsey 2017-04-22 10:17:20

Some logic here (my logic anyway)...

If Jumbo can trundle 26 consecutive overs, doesn't it translate to him being fit enough to play at any level?

Watching Nurse at bat during the just concluded ODI series, he doesn't look much smaller than the jumbo kid.

solidrock 2017-04-22 10:22:25

I will keep being an advocate for Cornwall. He is being unjustly kept back for dumb reasons. His quality and ability overrides any excuses being made to stifle him from test cricket now!

He is accustomed to bowling marathon spells under Kieran Powell's captaincy. Nothing new. Fitness comes in different shapes and sizes.

What's so outstanding about Cornwall's bowling stats?

Here are the bowling stats of the top spinners in the PCL....

1) Nikita Miller, 58 wkts @ ave of 14.29
2) Veerasammy Permaul, 40 wkts @ ave of 17.10
3) Roston Chase, 24 wkts @ ave of 19.16
4) Jomel Warrican, 32 wkts @ ave of 20.34
5) Imran Khan, 44 wkts @ ave of 20.68
6) Damion Jacobs, 34 wkts @ ave of 21.38
7) Shane Shillingford, 39 wkts @ ave of 24.30
cool Rahkeem Cornwall, 38 wkts @ ave of 27.36

Miller has a considerably better wicket-haul and average than Cornwall, for example....

overweight people are susceptible to heart disease and stroke. This fact is more important than the fitness focus. I won't want to see Mister collapse while taking a sharp single. Cornwall should reduce his bulk for health reasons.

What about strike rate? To me that is a more meaningful statistic than average.

You mean the NFL pkayers been dying from Heart failure early and often considering more than half the players are over 240 lbs? All of them fitter than most people.
Ive said it here I believe Cornwell may havr a Hypo Thyroid problem that can be held in check with meds. I know 2 athletes in both Tennis and Volleyball who has the problem which is a lifetime one via genes. It has nothing to do with how much you eat! You can eat a saucer of food for breakfast lunch and dinner and the carbs will not burn off easily. Living in the Caribbean it is easy to miss those types of genetic diseases such as that and Venus' The technology is nog there and the doctors dont know to look for it. In other words just like you guys are assuming it is simply diet those docs do the same when a total screening of the blood for any kind that affects weight needed.

If it was simply overweight due to food Cornwall would not be as athletic abd agile. That shows its another issue.

Definitely a T20 and an ODI player for sure at this time. He does bat better than the frontline spinners we got as well.

The difference between Cornwall and maybe with the exception of Shillingford is that he has produced consistently on A Team tours. When these other spinners play at the next level they are found wanting. Stats alone do not paint the entire picture.

You might be on to something there. I wonder if anyone during their assessment of Cornwall looked at that angle.

Which one is it Jumbo or Jumbo? You are a real Dumbo.

You disappoint me.

First sentence...

If Jumbo can trundle 26 consecutive overs, doesn't it translate to him being fit enough to play at any level?

Jumbo refers to his name, hence the capitalization. Appropriate.

Second sentence...

Watching Nurse at bat during the just concluded ODI series, he doesn't look much smaller than the jumbo kid.

"jumbo" is used as an adjective to describe (the size of) the "kid". Capitalization not appropriate.
