HEADLINE: Galvanising incompetence

CaribbeanCricket.com 2017-04-24 06:29:06

these glaring examples of managerial incompetence at a cricketing level because there are no real consequences for inefficiency in a Caribbean region hamstrung by a deeply-ingrained culture of indifference towards something as basic as getting the job done right.

From pitchforks at the Oval to glowing coals on galvanise at Sabina Park, no effort is being spared to chase away the few remaining Caribbean stragglers who are interested in Test cricket.By the way, yes, “galvanise” in standard English is a verb not a noun, but as soon as the presumably standard English stop talking and writing so liberally about having a “cuppa” and going to the “loo,” galvanise will continue to be the roofing material used by the ground staff in Kingston to position the heated charcoal over the wet spots on the pitch on Saturday morning. There really is no other way to put it: efficiency and competence aren’t priorities in our part of the world, simply because there are no meaningful consequences for failing to consistently meet what would usually be considered internationally acceptable standards of performance, in so many areas of regional endeavour.“Who cares anyway?” has been uttered a few times by different personalities in dismissing the inadequate covering of the pitch after the first day’s play of this 50-50 Test (the 50th at the ground and the 50th between West Indies and Pakistan) as nothing to get too worked up about. “At least we seeing the West Indies bat three days in a Test match,” was the facetious observation of a taxi driver winding his way through the streets of Kingston as the rain came down again bucket-a-drop after only 55 minutes’ play was possible on the second afternoon following a four-hour delay when it should have started on time but for the ground staff either not doing their jobs properly or not being provided with the proper equipment or not being properly supervised.

We like it so. Apparently. All West Indians do is talk, talk, talk. Never any action. This website is a prime example. Cuss one another. Debase the messenger. But never, ever take action to address the real problems. That is the story of the Caribbean from Jamaica in the north to Guyana in the south.
Our cricket is just one example of why all our countries are failed states.

"Who cares anyway", that's the prevailing sentiment ringing throughout Jamaica and even some other parts of the region. Cricket as now become according to the writer not only a "failed" sport by the region but also an epitome of failed Caribbean states.

How do we sit their and allow the president, his deputy, the board, and selectors destroy our cricket? What we see on the field is a total disgrace and embarrassment for cricket lovers. No one seems motivated and it is just a matter of time until our sport we love is completely dead! So far the highlight of this test is to see West Indies bat for three days, thanks though to the rain

The real irony here is that the President of WICB and at least 3 other WICB officials are from Jamaica, while the sport of cricket is seemingly dying in their own homeland, with lack of support by them for young players. The Sabina Park fiasco highlights some of the problems, despite the prevailing showers which only God controls, but the situation demonstrates a lack of accountability and incompetence at various levels.

"galvanise" may be standard English, as the no-name writer asserts.

But words need to make sense when they are used. This usage makes no sense whatsoever. And that really speaks to the rest of this brutally badly written piece.

Mr./Ms. writer, the WICB does not play cricket!

Windies product lacks quality right now, regardless of structure. Until players begin to perform, cricket will become the Cinderella sports in the region.

3 Jamaican's snouts in the trough seem to be a spot of bother for you. I assume your country folks' snouts are too short!

I have frequently commented on the
Fact that most sensible Articles ,in Regional Newspapers are always
written , by nameless Persons .

Meanwhile the Pseudo Sports Journalists in the Region go into
Hiding .

IT WOULD VERY INTERESTING TO

READ THE PERPESTIVE OF TONY

BECCA ET AL .

In this Forum I have consistently
stated , unlike the Pseudo Sports
Journalists in the Region that ;

CHANGE MUST START FROM THE

TOP DOWN ; NOT FROM THE

BOTTOM UP .

OBVIOUSLY THEN WE MUST

FIRST DEMAND THAT THE WICBC &

THE REGIONAL CRICKET BOARDS .

UNDERGO SERIOUS & TOTAL

STRUCTURAL REFORMS .

There must be NO COMPRIMSE in
these Structural Reforms . I believe
that the PEOPLE in the Worst Iternational Cricket Board in the
Commonwealth & the Regional
have had many opportunities to
implement Structural Changes in the WICBC .

THEY have over the years commissioned several Reports and
have consistently Rejected the salient Features of these Reports .

IT IS VERY OBVIOUS THAT THEY

HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO INTENTION

OF CHANGING THE CURRENT

STRUCTURE . THEY ALL

THEREFORE MUST BE MADE TO

DEMIT THE OFFICES THEY HOLD .

If necessary the Regional Governments must take them to Court , and demand that they state
why they should not be removed .

THese are the People who cancelled the last Tour To India
by bluntly refusing to attempt salvaging the Tour .

IN MY OPINION THAT WAS THE

HEIGHT OF IRRESPONSIBILITY .

AND DEMONSTRATED THAT THE

WICBC WAS RECKLESS , BECAUSE

IT LEFT THE BCCI WITH A

MOUNTAIN OF DEBT .

TV COVERAGE ; CRICKET FANS ;

HOTELS ETC .

Interestingly ; the Pesudo Sports
Journalists in the Region placed
ALL the blame for this Fiasco on the
Players ; while as usual ,absolving those in the Worst International Cricket Board in the Commonwealth
aka the WICBC .
