Were calling for Dowrich and Chase to be also dropped. Set of fools, Blackwood, Dowrich and chase are the three best test prospects we have..Notice all three had a below par regional, but the two chosen took shame out of WI face..Isn't it ironic though, that the two chosen in the final eleven are Bajans, eventhough,Ja. was celebrating it's 50th test match. Disrasspect to the hilth.

Some of the idiots that dropped Blackwood

I would broaden the discussion to say, IMO WI has now a core of 16 players who will need to be played with some degree of rotation
Pacers: Gabriel, Joseph, Cummins
Spinners: Bishoo, Jacobs
WKs: Dowrich & Hope
Openers: KB, Powell and Hetmyer
Middle Order: Blackwood, Vishaul, Chase & J Mo
All-Rounders: Jason Holder & Cornwall

That was a slap in the face to JA from the Bajan Mafia--Will any Bajan get dropped for the test in BIM--Nada!!
The selectors choices this test has moved away from what they earlier articulated. Its confusing at best and lack a kind of situational awareness. For instance why would you not select a player first game of the series in front of his home crowd. Conversely, why would you not choose to debut a player in front of his home crowd, where he is most likely to perform? I am not sure they are reading the respective situations correctly, that will put these young players given their limited experience, in the best position possible to begin their international careers.
Granted they are on the ground and may know things that those of us from afar don't. But it just seems or you get the impression that very quickly these selectors get out of touch.

Are you suggesting that had Blackwood or any other Jamaican been selected for the test match that the Jamaican public would have been flocking to the stands. 50th test or not?
In any case, according to some posters on here, Jamaicans are not interested in Test cricket. It's Athletics, Football and T20 cricket in that order.
In reply to Priapus
The major problem is not whether Jcans would turn out or not but has to do with integrity and fairness! How are you going to play a failed test player who has not even scored one 50+ in 8 matches or 16 innings over a relatively consistent batsman, who along with Kraigg, Dorwich and Chase have proven themselves as the backbone of WI batting? That's the real contention among most fans!
In reply to Priapus I dont know about all of that. I can tell you, however, that one of my brethren, who is an ardent cricket fan, one who never misses a match played in Ja.if he is not traveling, told me that this time he never even looked in that direction, muchless to go.
In reply to Priapus
The man is saying you put a debutant in conditions most favorable and familiar , and chances of success are increased.
Nobody dropped Blackwood. He didn't pick himself.
You would expect a test batsman to dominate the local cricket. He didn't. But he was still included in the test squad. Lucky for him there is no competition for batting places.
In reply to runout
You're missing the point, my goodness man.
In reply to Wally-1
Agreed Sir. The decision to drop Blackie was a foolish one. Came from muddled minds..
In reply to Wally-1
Ok...if you say so. I won't get into the politics.
In reply to Priapus... most Jamaicans yes, but there are a few who still love this GAME!
In reply to runout... so Chase and Dowrich did? Mark you I would drop his raas ... higher standards for Yaadie.
In reply to natty_forever
Yaadie is no muddie!
I have been saying this for a while now, Dowrich is a very good batsman, better than a lot of the hyped ones..Somehow they should let him concentrate on his batting and give up keeping.
In reply to Wally-1... would have him keep and bat at 6, thus playing an extra bowler as Holder IMHO is a batting all-rounder.
In reply to googley... well not the first 3 letters.
In reply to Slipfeeler
bwoy mi luv the name...
anyhow.. you said
1)He and the chairman of selectors are from the same island.
2)Hope has the personal backing of Clive Lloyd
I think the Blackwood dropping was to teach him a lesson...hope he learned it...fortunately for Blackwood, Hope failed both innings
In reply to Priapus
No, that's not what I was suggesting. I at no time came even close to suggesting that Yaadies would have flocked to Sabina if Blackwood played.
Stuart Law is the reason Hope is back in the Test team. He's so sweet on Hope he will soon be taking insulin shots
In reply to runout
You are missing the key point. Word to the wise, Blackwood is bored with the local cricket and cant get motivated to score runs at this level.Had he played in the first test,he would have morphed into a combination of Nurse and Kanhai once the bright lights of test cricket were turned on. Those lamenting his exclusion are forgetting that scoring runs is a habit like batting for long periods.
Cry babies
Allyuh got the nerves to talk about Bajans soft, when we all we do is strike for our rights.
Cummins anyone?
In reply to carl0002
I dont get this thing about picking a player just because he is in front of his home crowd.
Blackwood, or any player, should be selected or not on merit/performance.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
They you go and let the dogs out?
Did we not boycotted a game, because one of our homies was dropped?
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy Noone is suggesting or suggested that..The point is so very succinct yet people like you conveniently slide by it.Geez
In reply to openning
That does not change the fact that players should not be picked just because he's at home.
In reply to Wally-1
I am not arguing that Blackwood should or shouldn't play. But the justification for his inclusion shouldn't be based on his being at home or because no other Jamaicans were in the squad for the 50th test match.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Once you live in a glass house you should never throw stones
Blackwood's none selection in Jamaica is off the table for me.
Note it is about the historic acassion with the 50th Sabina test and no Jamaicans in the team, at the expense of Shai with a teen average and two rookies, playing ahead of him.
In reply to openning
Well argue that point and leave out the historic occasion and hometown boys. Das all i am saying.
In reply to SirGarny
My concern is that while trying to teach Blackwood a lesson they may have damaged his usual confidence and psychological motivation from dropping him in front of his home peeps. Just hoping he has the mental fortitude to remain strong and let his bat do all of his talking!
In reply to carl0002
OK cool.I got you. I read somewhere perhaps on another thread that the absence of fans in the stands was because of the exculsion of a Jamaican player in the squad. George Davis on Sportsmax insinuated as much.
I believe the poor crowds at test cricket throughout the region has to do with a combination of factors not least the quality of the product out on the field.
In reply to Wally-1
Careful the WICB may ask you to remove your headline you know how touchy "idiot" has become.

I agree

Blackwood, or any player, should be selected or not on merit/performance.
That's not what I am saying either and I am not even sure how you got there from what I said. All I am saying is that given the fragile nature of the WI cricketer, you put them in best position possibly to succeed as young players and that could include debuting them in most familiar surroundings hopefully so they can gain more confidence. This is not a hard and fast thing just a play on the psyche of the WI cricketer, cuz a young WI cricketer out of his comfort zone is a disaster.
Also Courtney Brown was the one who said in no uncertain terms that selections going forward will not be based on a single season performance but consistency over a period of time. Note even 6 months ago that was said and here we are where the complete opposite is the reality, so where is the merit in that.
In reply to carl0002
Well they say a new sheriff is in town. Law and order.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy... who is "order"
