That's OK! He has overachieved! The pretenders continue to fall by the wayside while his legacy remains intact!
In reply to StumpCam
Tiger never had the competition that modern golf presents....ironically he ushered in the high performance golfer.
In reply to DAVE400
So, Nickelson, Els, Harrington, Cabrera, Furyk, Singh, Goosen, Duval, Jose Maria, Olazabal weren't adequate competitors in your judgement????
In reply to StumpCam
I am not sure what dave mean golf is not like tennis or boxing where you battle each other each individual play their game on the same golf course and the lowest score wins
.the courses these current players compete on are the same courses that Tiger played on ----- now if Dave can show where current players scores, on same courses are consistently lower than what Tiger winning scores were ----- then dave has a point otherwise
He aint done yet
In reply to StumpCam
Nope
In reply to DAVE400
OK, why don't you prove to me that they weren't as good as the current crop!
Actually, you don't have to prove to me, but back up your statement that they weren't as good as the players of today!
Tiger dominated the fat white unathletic male golfing population.
In reply to Devin
I guess, you would also say the same thing about the Williams Sisters in tennis.

Leff dave nah.......his statement

Tiger in his heyday was beating those fat out of shape White boys by 10 strokes (in majors too).
It stands to reason he would be beating today's fit and trim White boys by at least 4 strokes (in majors too).
In reply to Larr Pullo & StumpCam
As much as Tiger has done.... he could've done more was he not constantly injured over the past several years... he was on course to have more PGA tour wins than Sam Snead and most likely more Major wins than Jack Nicklaus...
Doesn't look like it was meant to be. The punnani-fiasco real forked him up well and proper.... never really recovered from it...
In reply to RemainsUnknown
Tiger was a once in a lifetime golfer a la Hogan and Nicklaus.
In his prime when he was a supreme ball striker, and putter, he could beat any of today's robot cookie cutter pros using 1950's equipment.
In reply to RemainsUnknown
I don't believe it is the puCe that is responsible for Tiger's demise. I believe that after his face came in contact with the business end of a 9 iron wielded by his angry wife ,Elin, that caused him to crash his car on tree on his property, his game started to suffer from then on.
In reply to Toney
I always maintained that woman had something to do with his demise.
It was right after he get ketch, his game and his back went under.
The correlation is too strong to just dismiss.
Sampson met his Delilah.
In reply to ProWI
No, Serena dominated because she was more manly than all the other girls. That's pretty obvious.
In reply to Devin
She dominated because she was the better athlete.
In reply to Devin
Hmmmmmmmm and dat Indian fellow
I REFUSE TO SURRENDER TO THE DYING LIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In reply to DukeStreet
There is no proof to suggest that she's a better athlete. We don't know what other sports she excels in, nor do we have that information regarding other players.
Serena dominated for the same reason that the West Indies dominated cricket for 15 years. Muscles, physically bigger, intimidating, hit ball harder, stronger.
In reply to DukeStreet
Personally, i believe Elin caused him a very serious injury and he is not saying anything about it cause he knew it was his fault and she is the mother of his kids.
In reply to dale_staple
Which injury? Driving into a fire hydrant?
His decline can be directly attributed to his obsession with the army/navy, and the intense physical training required to become a member of those two organizations.
Driving into a fire hydrant cause some level of injury due to impact. Thank in conjunction with the strain on his back from the workout killed his game. I think there is a 5% chance he is not done.
Why it so hard to discuss Tiger without inciting passion?
Tiger woods rose on the back end of the fat unfit golfer...
The pack these days are lean mean machines, with mental coaches...
It ain't no diss to Tiger...it is simply a longer hitting, fitter, mentally tougher generation.

Those who say the top 10 ranking guys today are not worth their salt or are not good enough to give Tiger a run for his money back in the day.... obviously knows nothing about the game of golf.

Today's pros are piss poor in comparison to pros even as far back as the early 2000's. What you guys see are seeing on the PGA tour currently is the result of a juiced up plastic ball, frying pan sized drivers, milled faced putters and wedges, and courses set up with mile wide fairways without any rough.
The moment a course is setup with rough, tight fairways, or even a moderate amount of wind most of today's pros struggle. Look at the Masters. It one of the few events set up to be somewhat difficult. And every year Fred Couples and Bernhard Langer are in the mix. Tom Watson, 60 years old and all, nearly won the British Open a few years back.
Simply put, the guys today are not very good ball strikers. They are bomb and gougers. The course are set up so that errant drives are not punished. Everyone wants to see Bubba launch it 400 yards and gouge it to the green with a wedge. And the average weekend tour stop sets up the courses to deliver and reward that type of golf.
Watch Tiger at the 2000 US Open at Pebble to see an example of precise ball striking. Back then he was using a 300cc driver with a steel shaft and a balata ball. Balata balls are extremely spiny. If you didn't hit it out of the screws it would spin out left or right and you were cooked unlike today's plastic balls which hardly spin. Tiger was hitting the middle of some of the tightest most unforgiving fairways during that Sunday round (13/15) and won by 15 fcuking strokes.
Even with the juiced up plastic ball, frying pan drivers, mile wide fairways with no rough, none of today's roid up pros could ever match Tiger's ball striking mastery from 99-2004.

This chap RemainsUnknown doesn't know his ass from his elbow! Somehow he feels because he is a recreational golfer he knows what he is talking about! I dare him to tell us how long he has been playing and how much he has improved!
I have a friend who I played cricket with that have only started playing golf about 5yrs ago, in his 50s, and has qualified to play in Sir Garfield Sobers tournament in Barbados!
Just imagine if I decided to pick up a club, I'll spank this little uncoordinated punk!

I read somewhere that with all the improvements in clubs & balls... over the past few decades... that it has only taken off a few strokes... that's not much in the grand scheme of things...
Also, the US Open is one of the toughest tournament, Mr. KnowiItAll......

You're attempting another bet in which you will lose and CRY like a little bitch to pay up AGAIN?

In my opinion there hasn't been any improvements in clubs and balls since 2000. The equipment they are making now actually results in making golf harder for the average hacker. All that lightweight gear does is make people swing faster with their hands and come over the top even more. Modern golf equipment is mostly junk with generous servings of marketing gimmicks. It's funny how so many tout the exploits of current pros like Dustin Johnson, Mclroy, Jason Day etc but you can't find any coach out there that teaches their swing technique. All the coaches try to teach the swing of Ben Hogan. A dead man who played in the 40's, 50's and 60's and who used heavy persimmon drivers, heavy bladed irons, and a spiny balata ball. Go figure.
For the pros, the modern stuff has resulted in bomb and gouge golf where if you swing off your feet and hit it 30 yards off line you still have a second shot because the ball isn't out of bounds and there is no rough to speak of. Today's game is set up for distance, distance, and only distance. The modern tour pro isn't interest in accuracy because he/she doesn't need to be accurate off the tee any more. You almost never see a PGA pro use a long iron into a par 4 anymore. Par 4's were originally designed for the use of a long iron (2,3, 4 or 5 iron) second shot to reach and hold the green to set up a birdie putt. Only very good ball strikers could play par 4's back in the day. Now everyone is wedging their second shot into par 4s.
In reply to StumpCam
Poor Dude has bought into the marketing and gimmicks of the equipment manufacturers and the "these guys are good" PGA Tour.
What we are seeing now is Golf 2.0. It's fun to watch but I know the difference between it and Golf 1.0 which was even more fun to watch and which was a better game.

You forgot to mention also , these
necessary attributes that is essential in sports :
STAMINA ; BOTH PHYSICAL &
MENTAL .
As I have stated many times in this
Forum , and many refuse to acknowledge these important factors , regarding West Indies dominance in International Cricket .
The first is the fact thatt many of our Players in the Golden Eras of
West Indies Cricket played Cricket
in England . That made them also acclimatized to playing in Cold weather .
However the lynchpin is the fact that the Tour Schedule in those eras required many matches before
& in between the Test matches .
It is very important to realize that
in those eras , there was no Professional Cricket League in the
Region .
The problems regarding our Players
started when England decided to
limit the number of Players playing
Cricket in England & that was swiftly followed by a Change in the
International Tour Schedule .
Unfortunately those in the Stewardship of Cricket in the Region did not think about having
a Professional League until about
THIS FOLKS IS PRECISELY WHY
IN THE LONGER FORMATS OF THE
GAME WE ARE WHERE WE ARE IN
INTERNATIONAL CRICKET .
In a nutshell those in the governance of Cricket in the Region
were exceedingly shortsighted .
When England decided to limit the number of Players playing Cricket
in England , that was the first warning . The WICBC refused to
understand that this over time was
going to affect the competitiveness
of Our Players in ALL aspects of
Cricket .
Then it was decided to change the
Tour Schedule , no longer would
teams be allowed to get fully acclimatized to the weather and
Pitches .
Once again the WICBC failed to understand what was happening in
International Cricket until 5 years
ago it finally dawned on the BIg Idiots that they should have a Professional League .
Make no mistake ; it is the failure
of those in the governance of West
Indies Cricket to fully understand
what was happening why currently
Our Players are not as competitive
as they can & should be .
To cover their asses , those in the
governance of Cricket in the Region
decided to put all the blame on the
Players , and they were ably assisted by most of the Charlatans
in the Region who claim to be
Sports Journalists .
They apparently are still blind regarding how WE got to where we are . I take comfort in the fact that
what I have stated here cannot be factually refuted by ANYONE .

I started playing due to my co-workers back in 2011. They told me to get myself ready to play within a few weeks and they will set-up a tee-time.
I often watched golf, but didn't have an eye for the intricacies of the game -- often happens when you don't play the actual sport. Nonetheless, I started to do lots of reading and then I went and bought a set of 14 mix n match clubs from a garage-sale for $20. I had to use steelwool to clean the clubs, cut some as they were rotting, and re-gripped many.
Went to the driving-range a few times, then when I ready for the tee-time that was set for the 4 of us... I was last to hit off the tee.
all 3 co-workers either sliced or hooked the ball. None went down the middle of the fairway.
After I pulled out my driver and hit the middle of the fairway, they were all dumbstruck. They said I lied to them and that I played the game before. hahaha.
And even asked why I bought a new set of clubs and I didn't even start playing the game yet...
Fast forward a few years after I've been playing with those clubs, I got a budget "Tommy Armour" set as an Xmas gift.
So no, I have never bought into the hype of the expensive equipment.
PS. Over the years, after only playing for a few months of the year (weather permitting) and not even very often during those months, I've dropped a few strokes each year...
The bottom-line for me is to have fun out there and sipping a brewski while doing it.....

In reply to Larr Pullo
Is is possible to have so many back surgeries and still play golf? I hardly think so but I am no doctor. And why bother, these surgeries cant be invasive surgeries as who would be risking there back being held up by a shoestring just to swing a club. The man did surgery and was out for a year plus. Come back play 1 tournament and then went for surgery again. Something not adding up. After a while it should click that surgery not helping but I am no doctor.

Bannas, name your sport and I'll kick your butt! I'll whip you with your own damn rusty clubs
Only fools will downplay Tiger's greatness! How is your man crush Justin Johnson doing, the guy that took 10yrs to win a major??? That's who is better than Tiger??? Puleeese!
In reply to StumpCam
You don't need to qualify to play in the Gary Sobers tournament. I know guys who have been playing several years now....low teens to mid to high handicappers. One or two can barely break 100. You compete among similar handicappers. Obviously you risk embarrassing yourself if you are struggling to hit the ball and want to compete in the tournament.

Hahaha. The man speak of shit he knows nothing about. I had to school him on a simple word the other day that he thought didn't exist only to learn that he was a fool to lash out without finding out whether or not the word exist. He's quick to jump. Those old bones will break if he keeps going at that rate.
This is the same guy that said Jetblue don't bump passengers and when I showed him the facts of quite the opposite the SOB (StumpyOldBoi) promptly tucked his tail between his legs and run off like the Chicken he is.
