Last time a WI fast bowler took 10 (or maybe even 9) was Roach in 2012 vs OZ?
In reply to CricketLuva4
I was not either but since working with Roddy, he has improved the mechanics a lot. Dat was a great off-cutter to get Yasir.

I was one of Gabriel's biggest detractors. Only when a west indian cricketer has improved I don't mind being wrong. Well done for the selectors to persisting cause if was me, he been sitting out a long time ago.

From very early on I said Gabriel had a better chance of succeeding than Cotterel.
Gabriel for MOM.
..
Saint Gabriel 9 wickets fer 92 runs.
Amazing

Roach took 10 wickets against Australia in 2012.
5 for 105
5 for 41
Good bowling by the three bowlers.
Gabriel for man of the match, no doubt hands down.
Liked him enough. Thought he was limited early on but figured with proper coaching and mentoring he would improve.
Happy for him
Law and Etswick took him to the pitch this morning and showed him exactly where to pitch the ball, he was a good listener and student. The rest is history.

Gabriel deserves it.
Hard to understand why fans don't "like" this player or that.
Still, Gabriel doesn't need us to like him. The man is, and always was, a classy fast bowler.
In reply to Runs
I remembered when he first came into the team he was one dimensional - raw pace and short pitch only.
Now he seems to have learned the nuances of fast bowling and patience. Good for him.
2 things yuh cyah teach
Height and bowling fast
And just to be clear.....neither is dependent on the other to be effective
to all the Gabriel detractors...
Who to put???

Bowled with venom and accuracy.
11 OVERS 5 WKTS 11 RUNS,there won't be another stint from a fast bowler for some time, the man is now a match winner.

Yes he has!
West Indies fast bowler Shannon Gabriel has praised former T&T allrounder Kelvin Williams after his brilliant performance against Pakistan at Kensington Oval, which gave the West Indies victory by 106 runs yesterday.Speaking after play, Gabriel said: Since my under-19 days I have worked with Kelvin and even up to now I do work with him. I would really like to thank him today for what he has done for me.
liked him on that first tour to England, after that he struggled with injuries ,over the last 18 months he seems to have regained that early promise.

He will be a handful if he can keep hitting that seam at his pace.
Off the top of my head only Starc bowls faster in test cricket.
In reply to Norm... we can be critical without hating ... no?
In reply to CricketLuva4
I believe most of us feel this way...
mechanics have improved...but the crazy idea I actually have that will truly help him yall might find laughable...
But I honestly would get Gabriel coached in Dance...
His mindset is maturing but his muscles need to learn the art of fluidity...I am not expecting a whispering death kind of approach to the crease but some fluidity will earn him the ability to swing that ball at will.
mark my words.

Ah get what you mean. He is very stiff and almost relies solely on muscularity to get the ball down there.
If you compare him to say, Starc, who is very rhythmical.
Whether dance is the best way to achieve this is up to debate.

Have you heard of a lad called Pat Cummings.
I guess not.
look at my Ozzie Team if you want to see class pace bowling.
FUNNY AH FCUK
HA HA HA

he is injured more than Saint Gabriel.
On March 17, 2017, Cummins returned to Test cricket after 1946 days (5 years, 3 months, and 27 days, or exactly 278 weeks) of absence due to various injuries.

Happy Birthday mate!
Yup...He does...and he admitted that he was trying too hard in the first innings..but for the second he calmed himself down..
I rest my case.
In reply to analyst-kid
He does. It is not a big deal, he bowls fast and is now moving the ball.
It could arguably means more injuries IMO, but fingers crossed.
In reply to CricketLuva4
and I am saying he will avoid injuries if he learns to dance and become more fluid...His muscles and Joints will be grateful.
Average will spike up and a genuine strike bowler he will be.
In reply to powen001
He from calypso land and can't dance? The much maligned Gayle dances down the pitch every now and then!
