Will Holder's Stature Grow As A Leader

Raggs 2017-05-08 13:44:20

After such a great comeback win.

DIEHARD 2017-05-08 13:48:20

In reply to Raggs

No.

You'd have to be able to attribute some factor of the win to his leadership/ captaincy.

tactically maybe not put physically he was certainly in the mix. Vital half century in the first innings and bowled tight and effectively in both Pak's innings.
Yes I think he will become a commanding figure in time to come.

Gabriel was well supported by seamer Holder who claimed three wickets in each innings, and also gathered a fluent half-century in the first innings.

However, the 29-year-old Gabriel also pointed to Holder’s captaincy as key in the success.

“Jason is a good captain. He’s learning and improving a lot,” he stressed.

“One good thing about him is that he’s willing to take advice and try new things and that’s a good thing for the team and for West Indies cricket.”

It will.

I am confident of this.

He is not a yes man but he is also very respectful of his leadership...excellent attributes for longevity.

Series win will help. Pakistan has never won a series in the West Indies so this Test match is crucial. He needs to bat further up in the order as I believe against better batting attacks he will be pummelled. He is a better batsman than he is a bowler.

Did Holder's stature diminish as a leader after the team's dismal showing at Sabina Park in the preceding test?

What did someone say about one swallow?

That said, give Holder credit, though, because we now have a captain who pulls his weight in the team;and offers a lot more than just "intangibles" while contributing with both bat & ball.

Thanks to Holder, a West Indies captain being called an "allrounder" is no longer a misnomer!

That was essentially my point.

In my eyes, and the rankings reflect this, his stature as a player is growing, he's currently # 11 ranked test allrounder in the world.

And his ranking as a batsman has improved plenty..it should have as a bowler to.

But he hasnt really done anything to look like a better "captain"

One things for sure..improved performances...will help him to become a better leader

Think about how difficult it is to lead a team ranked at the bottom of the standings, while as a young player trying to establish yourself as an allrounder at the International level. Man that is indeed a daunting task.As the other youngsters improve, his job will become easier and i think he will grow into the role. I wish the young man well in the future.

Is that really true????
Didn't Sammy had 5w hauls 4 times and 1 century in as many matches as Jason currently has???

I'm not sure about the stats but Jason holder is clearly a better batsman and a better bowler than Sammy.

So what happens if the stats say otherwise?

mittheimp 2017-05-09 00:20:13

In reply to Kay

there is more to judging a cricketer than stats. Holder is an improving player....but his batting average in this series is 40 and his bowling is 18. His overall batting average is 10 runs higher than Sammy and his bowling avaerage is only very marginally higher - so raw stats say hes better too.

It is good to see that slot that Holder is occupying, is for a full time bowler, he has earned his selection.

Dukes 2017-05-11 15:29:54

Anybody who thinks that Sammy is a better cricketer than Holder does not know cricket. It is not even close!!!!!

jacksprat 2017-05-11 15:31:58

Kudos Skipper Holder!

It is so refreshing to see him lead by example.

This is one captain who looks the part of a genuine all rounder and a bonafide cricketer to boot!.

It is reassuring that here is a captain who backs himself and takes the ball in challenging situations, rather throwing it to a part timer, hide in the slips and clap! big grin

then to hear we asked for this...

Surely some explanation was given...right?

He is fighting and that's a good thing though.
