Gayle is the last WI captain to win a series against a reputable and high ranking team. He doesn't really need any endorsement.

So he is a bad captain b/c he didn't take a review? I guess the umpire is a good umpire then for missing that appeal big grin

Applying your logic of determining merit of captaincy based on wins against "higher ranked" opponents..
Apart from one or at the most two , at beginning of his tenure, Clive Lloyd never won any series against higher ranked opponents..

jacksprat 2017-05-10 08:19:21

..And to continue on your flawed reasoning, Lloyd could not have won a series against a 'higher' ranked, or 'lower ranked" for that matter since there twas no official ranking of teams in that era!!!

Why Oppis said Gayle was a poor captain...
Who is Ottis? What has he achieved as a cricketer vs Gayle?

People also must be convenienty forgetting this was maybe WI' first or second test series involving the DRS.

A lot of players were uncomfortable with it, and this to me just seemed to be an example of Gayle being too respectful of the umpire's call, and that reflected at the time how a lot of players felt, that challenging the umpires call was tantamount to sacrilege.

Then the feeling was it had to be an absolute howler..like all 3 stumps flattened, some were unconfortable with what they felt could be 50/50 lbw calls
