What to expect:
The Test could be affected by some brief showers on all five days and that could assist the pacers.

The last Test played here was in 2015 where Australia's pacers shared 16 wickets in their victory.

Big up Narper. The best driver on this board ever!!!

Narper 2017-05-10 08:49:00

Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq are set to retire after the third Test against West Indies in Dominica.

By the end of that game, they will have played 118 and 75 Test matches for Pakistan respectively, making this the highest-profile joint retirement since Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne and Justin Langer called it quits after the 2006-07 Ashes series.

We spoke to Younis and Misbah's current team-mates, to get a sense of what they have learned from the pair, and the implications of their exit for Pakistan cricket.

Team mates speak about them

West Indies win the toss and choose to bowl

Is that because of the apparently overcast conditions and possible early moisture in the pitch? Remember now, if you bowl first you have to bat last on a wearing pitch with their spinners coming at you. Shillingford played two tests on this pitch and got two 10-fors !!!!!

I think, we should bat first because this pitch will take spin also. I don't wanna bat on it in the 4th innings.

Weren't they warned against travelling on those inter-island ferries?

Two changes for Pakistan - Hasan Ali makes his Test debut in place of legspinner Shadab Khan and Shan Masood replaces Ahmed Shehzad.

West Indies, on the other hand, are unchanged.

Too much licks always keeps us thinking negatively.

The are bowling first because they plan to only bat once on this wicket. In doing so the get any early zing there is and then again on the fourth or early fifth day after a lead around 200 they will have a second go at Pakistan with the spinners getting help ....

Cricket 101 man smile

Outswinger 2017-05-10 09:56:48

In reply to Kay

No. If you are batting once you bat first, put up a huge total and put them under pressure. You bowl first if you think you can get them out for a paltry total and then bat when the pitch dries out and then put on the squeeze. It is strategy, not cricket 101.

Narper 2017-05-10 09:56:50

"We can have a result if the rain stays away," is what Ian Bishop has to say on air.

"No grass at all. It's dead grass, whatever there is. It looks little damp, the pitch is hard and the ball will move around a little bit early in the morning," is what Waqar Younis says in his pitch report.

Kay 2017-05-10 09:58:36

In reply to Outswinger

No. If you are batting once you bat first

Suh you caan bat once if you bat second? Ok then prof.....

Outswinger 2017-05-10 10:02:42

In reply to Kay

Yes you can, but I am saying the bowl first is predicated on getting them out cheaply first, rather than the batting once being the main strategy. Bowl first and when you bat you may not put up a bat-once total but you should accumulate a big enough lead to bother them.

But with slowmos suggesting that the ball hit the back thigh, bang in front of the stumps, height is the only factor in question now. Ball-tracking is in and it'sgoing over the stumps.

Devendra Bishoo to Babar Azam, no run, "Catchhhhhhh" was the cry from Bishoo, but Dowrich can't grab that. Dropped. What a clanger. Bishoo tosses it up beautifully outside off, drags Azam like a magnet and spins away sharply, Azam presses forward to defend, gets a tiny nick and it goes straight into the mitts of the keeper and pops out. Balloons up in the air, deflects off the first slip fielder's hand and drops to ground. Dowrich tries to gobble it up again but fails. A chance out of nowhere but it has been shelled. Bishoo is furious

Holder to Younis Khan, out Lbw!! Technology has the better of Younis Khan. His last innings or not, we shall know. Now this decision was really very interesting. Looked like it was going down but the umpire takes his time and then gives it out, following a desperate appeal from Holder. And Younis consults with Azhar Ali and reviews. He is caught on the shuffle by this in-ducker, and is pinned on the side of the front knee-roll. No inside edge but the off-stump is visible there, just a bit. The ball-tracking suggests the impact to be in line, which is fine, and the ball to be just about clipping the leg-stump. So Younis Khan has to go, hopefully not for the last time ever.

Younis Khan lbw b Holder 18(75) [4s-1]

Drapsey 2017-05-11 10:40:00

79.6 Holder to Misbah-ul-Haq, no run, dropped by the wicketkeeper and the West Indies captain is buckled over, the weight of his team's incompetence on his shoulders. How painful must this be? Especially after bowling a peach of a delivery, in line with off stump, and somehow persuading this dead pitch to give him some help, convincing it to make the ball move away. Misbah prods at it, he has to, it's too close to the stumps, gets a thick outside edge, but Dowrich, diving to his right, going at it with one hand, shells it

Chief selector Brung should glove-up. Couldn't be any worse.

Yasir Shah to Hetmyer, out Caught by Sarfraz!! Pakistan review: A strangle down leg, given NOT OUT on-field. Fair delivery. Has it brushed the glove? Looks very close. There was some noise as the ball went passed the bat. Oh, the on-field call has been overturned. OUT it is. Not the greatest of deliveries from Yasir but still fetches him a wicket. A leggie turning down leg, Hetmyer could've easily left it alone but he tries to tickle it fine and pays the price. The ball gained extra bounce, pinned the outer part of the glove and Sarfraz safely settled it into his mitts. Sarfraz was very confident and he was the one who persuaded Misbah to opt for the review.

WI HAS to at least bat out this session to open all three options: win, lose or draw.

If they bat out this session and cut Pak lead to under a 100....Pak would have to bat two sessions for 200 to set WI A day total of around 300.

WI seems able in this series to bat out a day. Draw possibility only if they bat out this session/ cut the lead below a 100

Only one 50 in this innings we should have been at 270-280 by now.

After a tremendous warm up game V.Singh has an avg of 13..25 at this time , much more work to be done to be a force on the test circuit.

The Youth Hetmyer has an avg of 13.50 early day of many we hope for him but he needs some more work.

Hope showed some glimpses of his batting in game 2 but still an avg of 19.17 after 9 games.

This lot with the seemingly inability thus far of our opening pair KB and KP to kick on put us in trouble.

Chase strikes last ball before lunch

Rass...like ball touch ground before caught

Babar has fallen to a bat-pad and Pakistan lose their second. West Indies go upstairs to refer this. West Indies are celebrating and the soft signal is out.

6.6
Roston Chase to Babar Azam, out Caught by Hetmyer!! West Indies are claiming a catch. The umpires converge and takes the matter upstairs. Soft signal is out. No issues with the front foot. Oh hold on! Has it kissed the turf before landing into the fingers of the short leg fielder? Touch and go. "50/50 call," says Ramiz Raja on air. OUT flashes on the giant screen. How many times have we seen this in this Test? A wicket falling before the break. Pakistan are two down. Chase has struck in his first over. Gives more air and gets it to dip in front of Azam. He pressed forward to defend, the ball takes the inside edge onto his pad and spooned towards deepish short leg. It was dying.. but Hetmyer gets his hands low, makes sure it is underneath the ball and grabs it.

Devendra Bishoo to Misbah, out Caught by Dowrich!! That's it, ladies and gentleman. 75 Tests, 5222 runs, 11725 balls, Pakistan's second-most successful Test captain is done with Test cricket. Walks through the guard-of-honour by his teammates, who have their bats templed together as a sign of reverance. Younis reaches out and gives him a long, warm hug. 30.5
Devendra Bishoo to Younis Khan, out Caught by K Powell!! Et tu Younis, then fall your fans. End of an era in cricket, because Younis Khan is walking back for the last time ever, minutes after Misbah does. What a ride it's been. And such a worthy catch to send back Younis Khan, the greatest Pakistan batsman of all time. It's a full toss from Bishoo alright, and Younis plays that sweep of his - the one he's played for seventeen years through 118 Tests, for 10099 runs, racking up 34 hundreds - but this time, he has managed to top-edge it. And Powell pulls off a stunner at backward square leg, diving to his left, one-handed, and casting himself as a famous villian forever. Raises his bat, is embraced by the Jason Holder's men and walks through a similar guard-of-honour that his teammates had for Misbah-ul-Haq

Joseph to Sarfraz Ahmed, OUT, superb work! First from the bowler, in executing the perfect bouncer, making it climb up over the batsman's shoulder, a batsman who had charged out at him. How dare he, says Joseph with this little peach. Forces Sarfraz into a tangle and the attempted hook shot is gloved over his head and into the hands of the wicketkeeper. Good on Dowrich too, turning around and running back, watching the ball over his shoulder, and avoiding the helmet too

37.4
Joseph to Asad Shafiq, OUT, he's already worked out the right length to bowl on this pitch. And he's only 20. This is a slow surface. Anything hitting the deck will stop on the batsman. So if you can pitch it on a fuller than good length - as Joseph does - the batsman is instinctively drawn into drive - as Shafiq is - and leaves himself open to popping tame catches. In this case, the bowler gets to enjoy the fruits of his labour all by himself

This is really an easy one day victory for West Indies.

Simple: Do not lose wickets and keep scoring at 2-3 an over.

Occasional fours and singles are the order of the day.

Narper 2017-05-14 10:49:52

Hety gawn !!!!

Amir to Hetmyer, out Bowled!! Got him. What a ball and what a set-up from Amir. He is pumped, roars with his arms aloft in joy.

I just saw the replay of the Brathwaite wicket. Is Shah's delivery stride wide outside the bowling crease? Isnt that a no-ball?

Chase and the short pitch

is he Bajan?

Hasan Ali to Shai Hope, out Lbw!! Maiden Test wicket for Hasan Ali. A fist-pump, and then some more, and then opens his arms to the heavens. And what a ball to get there. Gets it to reverse back in viciously and

Shai Hope lbw b Hasan Ali 17(54) [4s-2]

Shai out for 17. I guess he's back to normal now. After 19 Test innings, he has only one half-century.

On cricinfo:

"Chase still remains, and with him is the under-fire Vishaul Singh, who hasn't looked too convincing as a top-level batsman through this series, but can change a lot of minds if he hangs around for a session or so today."

Vishal out to Yasir for two. Five down.

Dowrich out to Yasir for two...93-6.

I am trying to figure out the coaching strategy and batting plan here

I would thought at the lunch time talk the plan would be for survival - having said that, anything pitching outside leg should be padded away. On the contrary, Dowrich went for that flick and got caught bat-pad confused

Honestly, he didn't look as if he touched the ball with the bat

Another half-century for Chase...why can he do it, while Kraigg, Powell, Hetmyer and Singh cannot?

As for Shai and Dowrich, they've both hit only one half-century in six Test innings, but not much else....

Oilah 2017-05-14 14:14:09

Congrats Chase well done.

To think some were questioning your play because you had an ordinary regional showing.

POLICY: do not drop anyone who has performed reasonably well at test level because of regional form.

The most scary part is coming up - the first over of a new session

Narper 2017-05-14 15:04:34

59.3
Hasan Ali to Chase, no run, puts down a return catch. Will be disappointed. Tough because he was on the followthrough. This would have been a sensational start to the session. Length ball on middle, this one stops on Chase who checks his defensive shot, skewed off the top part of the bat. Oh, dear.

Cornfused 2017-05-14 15:09:27

150/6

Cornfused 2017-05-14 15:14:14

Holder misses a full toss , this could be the end.

Only three wickets away for the West Indies to give up another record

mikesiva 2017-05-14 15:54:10

In reply to Cornfused

Holder out for 22...he's done no worse with the bat than what Kraigg, Powell, Shai, Singh and Dowrich have done this series.

Maybe he should move up to number six, ahead of Dowrich, and allow us to play another bowler.

Roston Chase has just become the highest run-getter in a series for West Indiesin the last five years, going past Marlon Samuels' 386 against England in 2012.

Love this piece of commentary from CricInfo:

87.1 Yasir Shah to Joseph, no run, big legbreak, dips onto a good length outside off and rips away. Stretches out and feels for it, bat doesn't really find the general vicinity of the ball
