Pure Muddie Love from 2:20 onwards
Lord, there is so much to learn from this video...
Compare a 19 year old Shiv on Debut, with all the crap we have playing right now for us....
Uses his feet, plays the ball late...
Also one can see, how much Shiv changed his game in the course of his career...
Different batting stance,
different technique to hold the bat,
More upright, can see how he crouches low at the start of his career etc etc....

The FACTS: Shiv's Career
TRIVIA
Freeze any frame showing the crowd.....
The number of people in one camera frame in this video... are the total number on the ground these days....
Shiv started his career in 1994 vs England, but wasn't a regular member of the team until after the 1996 World Cup.
Between 1994 and 1996, Shiv played 9 Tests spread over 4 different series (note. he wasn't picked for the 1995 Home Series vs Australia)
Tests:9
Innings: 13
Runs: 536
Avg: 59.55
HS: 80
100: 0
50: 7****
**** Please note, Shiv had 7 50s out of his first 13 innings
This is Shiv in 1996-97 vs Australia
* Not much change in his technique/stance still.
Was just a little more upright and stopped that exaggerated movement of the bat before playing
THIS IS SHIV's FIRST TEST CENTURY
PLEASE NOTE> Shiv had reworked his batting style by 1997.
Now he was making that huge trigger walk across the stumps before playing the shot..
NOTE: But his initial stance was still side on.

When will we see crowds like that again for test cricket....and Jimmy Adams having to chase fans away from Shiv.
When was the last time a test match in the Caribbean had so much crowd? Lara's 153 @Mecca was cheered on by a large crowd in 1999..
Between the 1996 and 1999 World Cups, Shiv had his ups and downs.
He was great at home, but was just not able to score runs on very tough AWAY tours.##
## tours to Australia, Pakistan, South Africa
1996-1999
Tests: 26
Runs: 1607
Avg: 38.3
HS: 137*
100: 2
50: 9
Home Tests: 13, Avg: 49.7
Away Tests: 13, Avg: 30.5
** Note: Again he did not play the 1999 home series vs Australia (which we drew 2-2)
Shiv continued his normal batting run between 1999-2000 without anything brilliant.
He played 10 Tests, and scored just 4X50s in that phase.
Once again, he got injured and had to return home from the Australian tour after playing 1 test match.
Then came the FIRST MAJOR SUCCESSFUL PHASE OF Shiv's Batting Career.
2001-2003 under Carl Hooper
Tests: 18
Runs: 1216
Avg: 55.27
HS: 140
100: 4
50: 7
Shiv was now the mainstay in the Middle Order!!
100 OFF 69 Balls by SHIV vs Australia in 2003
NOTE: Shiv had become quite more square on in his stance by 2003
But he was batting very aggressively.
This was also a phase, in his career, when Shiv was a very successful ODI opening batsmen. If people remember how Gayle & Shiv were destroying opening bowlers with ruthless disdain in ODIs.
Between 2003 and 2007
Tests: 38
Runs: 2838
Avg: 45.04
HS: 203
100: 8
50: 12
In this phase, Shiv was in transition as a batsmen.
Partly because he was briefly made captain, given a young team and also, he started really batting longer.... and reduced his aggressive stroke play
By 2007, Lara had retired and now Shiv entered his last and most successful phase of his career..
He was now a BATTING MONSTER
Here is the Shiv vs England in 2007
Note how he has changed his bat holding technique a bit and more square on in his stance.
2007-2015: MOST SUCCESSFUL PHASE OF SHIVs CAREER
Tests: 63
Runs: 5131
Avg: 64.13
HS: 203*
100: 16
50: 26
NOTE: Shiv averaged 64 over 63 Tests in 8 years -- TRULY EPIC.
2010---Shivs Final Stance and Batting Technique
Just watch how Square ON he used to stand in the final years of his career.
Some Video Evidence, how Shiv could change his technique during a series for a particular bowler.
In 2005, Shiv playing the square ON stance vs Warne
Later in his career, Shiv would go on to play with that stance full time.
Also, just play the link posted earlier vs Australia in 1996-97, thats a very good example of how much Shivs technique changed, against same bowler Warne.
In reply to Titleist
Most Likely, and unfortunately, NEVER.
NEVER.
In reply to Khaga
By Video Evidence, the crowds were still there till 2003.
4th Test at ARC, St.Johns
2nd Test at Queens Park Oval
1st Test at Georgetown
In reply to Khaga
Whether anyone likes to believe it or not... but 2007 killed West Indies TEST CRICKET Forever
- No.1 Reason -- Brian Charles Lara RETIRED
- No.2 Reason -- T20 World Cup, followed by IPL, Stanford cricket etc in the later years
- No.3 Reason -- 2007 ODI World Cup -- Most boring and started the slow change of Venues
- No.4 Reason -- Beginning of SHYTHOUNDS Taking over WI Cricket. First the Dotties and then the Bajans. All the controversies and backstabbing over selections, left the Spectators with no interest in Test Cricket by 2010.

Final Evidence:
2009 Test Match vs Bangladesh at Home
Empty Stands...
This was an "establishment" Scab Team that lost 0-2 at home vs Bangladesh
Shiv is the greatest of them all.
In reply to thefacts
Many watched that ARG chase in 2003..Not sure if Lara's 400 in 2004 had similar crowds..
In reply to Khaga
NOTICE how lively and characterful were the old grounds ARG and Bourda.
The New Stadiums are like Cemetaries
Please note that a reason put forth for him not being able to convert 50's into 100's was the bone issue in his foot, after he took the surgery one can notice the noticiable conversions.
In reply to Runs
True.
Although I think Shiv is far more than that... his mental resolve was simply unparalleled in WI history.
The kind of game techniques he displayed... especially when going from Tests to ODIs.
His performances as an ODI batsmen are seriously never discussed (let alone appreciated)
His 150 against SA in SA, is an EPIC knock
In reply to thefacts
Probably the last of the truly great WI batsmen It will take some time and catching up to match
In reply to thefacts
Off topic but what made the 2007 tourney 'most boring'? I'm guessing it had to do with the second group phase? Or is it because the final had the rain delays?
In reply to Tryangle
The Final was the sour cherry on a very Flat Powder Cake, the World Cup.
Everything was wrong --- The Format, The Time taken, too many meaningless matches, the crowd wasn't there for most of the games... etc etc
AND for me personally, there was nothing CARIBBEAN about that World Cup... it just didn't have any of the right vibes.
In reply to Runs
some credit must also be given to his "coach", Shiv has!
Shiv spent some personal time with Rohan.
In reply to googley
Thats right. Rohan Kanhai had a big influence!
In reply to thefacts
Shiv is great
Bring out more.
If you haven't posted it yet...get the 127* Shiv made at LORDS 1998 Princess Diana Memorial match...
TenD also made a ton in the match
In reply to Narper
Go ahead and post it, if you have the link.
I don't think i ever saw that game.
In reply to thefacts
you are correct!
What do you do when your cricket is not going well or who do you speak with?
I examine what Ive been doing
or call Chris my manager or Rohan Kanhai. Kanhai is always serious about cricket, and will tell you the tough truth, even if you feel hurt. Sometimes I dont want to hear it but he knows what hes speaking about, and his advice always helps. One time in Australia I got out and I heard an earful from Kanhai, so in the 2nd innings, though Brett Lee was sending down some thunderbolts I had to make runs
cause I didnt want to hear it from Coach ( I call Kanhai Coach).
In reply to googley
Why do you keep begging for some credit to Kanhai on every thread? This is about Shiv..
In reply to googley
Discipline, respect, hardwork, talent and a lil brains
In reply to Khaga
me begging? Shiv credit the man, not me!
you naw learn to read yet?
In reply to Runs
Shiv has more street smarts than many so called educated posters here, including Khaga!!
In reply to googley
I consider Shiv a Batting GENIUS... however I wouldn't call Shiv, street smart!
Evidence: Morton jooks Shiv
and this is when the Muddie was the cappo.. still the Dottie picks his pocket!!
Trust me man... Muddies don't have a street smart bone in em body! Them raised to be good boys!
In reply to thefacts
Bro allyuh remember how much them folks get on pon Shiv for this runout...and he was the one out. Oh well...not they are struggling to find someone to hate.
I think hate-Bishoo index gone up since Bishoo seems like he will hold a spot on this team.
You keep hearing all type of irrational rationale as to the directed negativity.
Well, so it goes. Them can't hate him forever...he will just move on!!!!
In reply to runout
Happened to all
Some days back I had posted the unfair treatment given to Muddies in past 20 odd years:
McGarrell, Colin Stuart, Hooper, Shiv, Ronnie, Fudadin, Dowlin, Deonarine etc
