That being said I do not see any better talent in the wings. Our poor FC structure produces and prepares players who are ill prepared for the highest level. Until we improve our entire FC structure I do not see us producing players who can compete with the better teams at the international level save an outstanding standout now and again.

Not entirely true. They shoulda play blackwood and then debut one of the newbie in his place if he fail. And of course there's Jason Mohammed and Sunil Ambris.

Well, Vishal Singh did average 26 in the just-concluded PCL, so it's no surprise he's struggling....

WICB selection policy seems to be based on a wing and a prayer.

Let's look at some of the batsmen who did better than him in the PCL:

1) Montcin Hodge - 616 runs @ average of 41.06
2) Kyle Hope - 649 runs @ ave of 49.92
3) Yannick Cariah - 691 runs @ ave of 43.18
4) Shiv Chanderpaul - 622 runs @ ave of 62.20
5) Sunil Ambris (wkpr) 608 runs @ ave of 43.42
6) Jahmar Hamilton (wkpr) - 648 runs @ ave of 46.28

The Vishal Singh pick just made no sense.

To be fair Singh made runs on the A tour, what the hierarchy, Dung or A level

I'd like to also add that only 4 players scored more than one century for the season

Chanderpaul
Cariah
Hamilton
Smith

None of those guys made the cut, and only Hamilton played the WICB XI game you'd think they'd be MUST picks.

Why dont we want guys who can ton up?

hety will avg. 45 after 40 test matches. cheesy needs to be with the team to gain some confidence; so is blackwood.

Cheesy and Hetmyer

should not be paired together in the same sentence. One is 20, full of talent and just need experience and opportunities. The other just cannot handle test level pace and appears to be a misfit right now.

Say we bench both of them... am very disappointed with Singh, Het has a decent debut avg, but need more time to develop. Singh needs to drink a glass of confidence juice,..

Hety stays... Cheese gotta go...

Hety should be batting in Cheesy position...

Huge mistake to pick Sing over Blackwood. Sing is an embarassment, canh bat, canh bowl and canh field.

Did the selectors scrutinize his play before this series or, is the highest level of test cricket just overwhelming him.

I think the latter

Well we have no one to bat at number 3 in the current squad. Of the reserves,,who can bat at #3?

anthonyp 2017-05-12 22:14:59

In reply to Baje

Blackwood maybe? doesn't he bat at 3 for Jamaica?

Are not ready for this level of cricket.

Then which WI player is?

It seems that the new strategy is to give new players a long apprenticeship to evaluate them. Shai Hope's Test batting seems to have improved, as a result.

Hetmyer seems to have a lot in his favor for a long apprenticeship, but Singh does not. He is probably down to one more shot at passing his probation.

I guess what they are doing is best under the circumstances, I still maintain the FC standards are too mediocre to consistently produce top quality players.
