Should Holder bat higher?

JO Holder 30* (87b 3x4 1x6)

Another solid not out innings

He has the temperament of a batsman....he is solid in defence and attack...he looks like a test batsman.

Does he have the confidence to bat higher...we know its mostly mental

The Clive Lloyd of this WI team?

In this series he has been giving it away in the 2nd innings....I say he bats #5 in this 2nd innings...try it out...really nothing to lose.

He is a good #8 batsman

I know that...I think he looks much better than a #8 batsman

But could be he a good #6 batsman...with a reduced bowling load?

yes , arguably among one of the better batsmen in this side

Food for thought.

Thing is...He appears competent in both disciplines thus far...

I like that he has been sticking to a channel to bowl down and not try too many things...and in like manner...very mature approach to his batting.

Moving him up though-- I counter propose to have him speak to his Top Order about the mental approach and patience required here...

Hetty ,Powell in particular can be match winners if only

Dowrich and Hope...all have to pull their weight -- I say leave him where he is and let the coaches put the pressure on the top order by asking them if they want Holder to bat for them too? big grin

Should come higher. Him and Chase should us their length to counter the better spinners. Losing his ability to score coming in so late. When with better batsmen he scores easier. In the second innings I would like to see Dowrich come at 3 and Holder at 5.
Hetty and Singh are a little over their heads right now.

To me he looks the same as other #8 batsmen (Woakes, Philander, Ashwin,..)

It is just that the Windies 1-7 don't really look as good as other teams 1-7

In this match you can always experiment to see if he can bat longer, in the long run, no. I think he needs to spend his off time working on his bowling.
Dowrich doesnt need to come higher, definitely not #3. For some reason, him n Vishaul seem reluctant to come forward to the pacers, maybe because the wicket is stopping, I dunno.

as far as I know, Holder is a decent young man. I don't know if WI cricketers are drug-tested, but to say he bats higher suggest he is batting high as it is now. I do not believe he bats high. I am not saying it wouldn't help, mind you.
