Stick with Hetymer

Real-cricket 2017-05-14 11:51:57

Despite no big scores I like what I see. We have too many blockers on this team. Someone has to have the balls to play shots and take it to the opposition. This is who we are!

Devin 2017-05-14 12:02:30

Hetmeyer at 3 and Blackwood at 4 could pose a lot of problems for opposing bowlers.

BTW how much better than Hety did Paint do?

Would split up these two attacking players

And are we proud of of this?

Look we are NOT this

We are attacking players by nature. However our players are coached to block block block which is secondary to them. I like players like Hey cause he reminds me of the kind of cricket that I have grown up seeing. Attacking players who put the oposition under pressure. Hety has his flaws but I believe that gap between bat and pad when he drives can be worked upon.

Hety will be fine, The kid is standing on solid ground. He led the WI to an u19 world cup win. Something no other West Indian have done. I said it from the inception, his biggest problem is over confidence. Experience will take care of that.

It's related to the angle from which he brings his bat down to meet ball and his balance..

I recall Lara going through a lean patch and Sobers helping him to correct his flaws. Someone of his pedigree might be able to assist Hetmyer, like he did Lara; all left-handlers.

Use the fork in yourself first

Runs 2017-05-14 12:59:53

He has no respect for balls on the wicket hence his cartwheeling stumps shows lol

Agreed

That could be worked upon. Paint had too much respect and watch his performance

Bad shot selections

I agree but you would expect that from a 20 yr old. He needs an experienced figure to guide him through. How could do that in our current set up?

Pacy 2017-05-14 14:13:21

He has he attitude but needs a lot of cricket to improve his shot selection and defends.

I wish Shiv or someone else in the WI set up can help him with a season in U.K. Or SA. I would also have him in all the A Tours and ODI cricket a year before deciding on his test selection again.

Too many flaws to be at test level

Blacks should have gotten a game

I support working with Hetmyer because he has talent, not because he is aggressive. We went through a long period with talentless guys throwing their bats and having the team crushed in 2 and 3 days. Now along come some serious guys like Brathwaite...who by the way, 4 matches ago batted through undefeated 2 innings in a test to help us win our first away match against top tier teams in eons .... and you want to dismiss the guy's efforts.

We won the 2nd test largely because Hope stuck out to bat a long innings in difficult conditions and other's hung around to support. We probably would have won this test too if we had not made the stupid decision to bat second.

natty_forever 2017-05-15 08:33:39

... most 20 yr oldfor the top 4 cricket nations would have played over 50 FC matches by now. I staying with Heyt, na Singh no sankie tho.

natty_forever 2017-05-15 08:34:53

In reply to Real-cricket... Blacks need to demand he gets a game ... right now a can hardly hear him.

timeless99 2017-05-15 08:39:14

He is a talent but he should not be batting at 3 maybe at 5 with chase at 4 and he has to tighten up his defense he has a weakness with the full ball angled I n he needs to work on that and he could be a really good addition

I don't understand why a newbie shouldn't bat at 3, but it's okay for newbies to open.

Will somebody please explain?

dayne 2017-05-15 08:49:58

A tour to England would do Hetmyer a world of good. In England the ball is always swinging so the batsman have to always be cautious of that. It will help him to be more discipline.

timeless99 2017-05-15 08:51:21

It's not that a newbie should not bat at 3 I believe if someone has the technique and the mental strength that it takes to perform at 3 he should then bat there but Hetmyer has to improve on his defence he has a weakness against full balls angling into him and most bowlers will exploit that so at the moment he should not be batting at 3.

FuzzyWuzzy 2017-05-15 08:57:35

In reply to timeless99

You can use that argument to say he shouldn't play at all until he remedies the flaws then
