Was it Fuzzy and a few Bajans who were downplaying Gayle's achievements talking about how WI finally has a real opener.
Let's hope KB doesn't turn out to the last guy that was supposed to be an improvement on Gayle. He went by the name of Chattergoon. What was it again? Finally an opener that can take the shine off the ball?
Ok then.

Kraigg B the great.
Bad series... allowed to have one or two of those every now and then.
Hopefully that is not the norm.

They have short memories.

I have never downplayed Gayle's batting prowess. People who know fuzzy personally will attest to that. Indeed fuzzy always stood on Gayle's side early on when he was called leadfoot and wanted dropping.
K B. Is not the same type of player as Gayle so comparison is irrelevant....like you are

When i saw him first up i wished him well but wasn't impressed. He is a blocker who plays across too much, even in defence his bat face is looking at mid on.

With no (Jamaican) heir apparent we will have hear about Gayle for a long time. I hope you have time and popcorn.
I wish Brathwaite well but his style of batting is destined to drive away the few remaining West Indies fan from test cricket.
Sports will always be about entertainment so blocking all day and tediously accumulating runs will impress no one but the diehard fans.
In reply to nick2020... and there are "heir apparent" from where you come from?

Who is talking about a bad series? Gayle was laughed at and ridiculed for his career batting average, which was in the 30s for a while just like the great one's.
In reply to FuzzyWuzzy
Your memory is the one that needs work. Dare I say, it seems a bit fuzzy.
You switched on Gayle and started to ridicule his record.

I know it couldn't last. Misbah a recognized great just spent 51 balls for 1 run and yet most people rated this test match as one of the best in a long time.
Look at the excitement in the crowd, in the commentators voice.
This is test match cricket; the outcome out weighs so called blocking.

Well Bajans always trying to deport me. I consider myself a Caribbean person.
In reply to nick2020... name a heir apparent please from anywhere?

In which format? But so we avoid the back and forth from the just concluded series I like Chase (but everyone sweet on him now) and I still like Joseph. I think Hetmyer is promising and to be honest I like Powell. Considering his long layoff he has been able to get starts. When I thought he was no good a Bajan told me I don't know cricket and he is going to be a solid cricketer.
Bajan know-it-alls.
But obvious answer as of right now is Chase. He is a multi-format player.
If we can get back Darren Bravo and we can get back Sunil Narine our team is quite good.

Good for Misbah!
How many new fans do you think are going to flock to the ground to see Brathwaite poke around all day?
No wonder test cricket is dying!
In reply to jacksprat
Yesterday was proof that test cricket is still alive

I am... you can deal with the other items you talking about. #Petty

I think you are sadly mistaken, and having a conceptual problem, the non-selection of modern day players apparently has no correlation with their talent and abilities, and vice versa, that's the moral lesson from the recently concluded test series. In fact there are heirs to Gayle in JA, I am sure you have heard of Stephen Taylor, ask the T&T bowlers about him, if not wait for him next season. Also there is a Brendon King who averaged 51 thus season, wait for him also next season.

#matchstickforbrains, this thread is not about A BAD SERIES, so your point is null and void!
Start your own thread about 'a bad series', if THAT is what you wish to discuss.
In reply to JahJah
Thought it was worthwhile to note the fact that at 37 tests Gayle had a 36 avg with 4 hundreds and 12 fifties.
KB has a 35.61 average with 5 hundreds and 12 fifties.
In reply to CricketLuva4
And what is your point exactly? That KB isn't far and away better than then the leadfoot wonder?
Thanks for the assistance then, because I already knew these stats...hence my thread.
PHEW!!!!!!!!!!!
