Brandon King Vs Shimron Hetmyer

XDFIX 2017-05-20 21:15:06

I listened to two old timers and one was big on King and the other on Hetti.

I would like to know what posters who have seen both players bat think!

Brandon King has tremendous potential and this is not hype, I think he has the real goods. That 191 runs innings take a look at the video, nothing but confidence, class and aggression, ending the season with an average of 51. I believe injuries to him and Leveridge cost JA the championship.

Hety is also a class batsman but needs to work on his defence, he will learn but getting bowled several times through a gaping hole between his bat and pad needs immediate attention by his coaches. He has the goods to succeed with adequate coaching but King is ready now to perform if given the opportunity.
Almost forgot, plus King can bowl too!

Raggs 2017-05-21 09:38:55

Guyanese batters have more prestige over Jamaican batsman.
I would say Hety cuz he has broken through but if King wants to blossom and challenge then that's all good.

Aggression always look good until its exposed at the international level. Fact is, all our players will take a while adapting to the international level. The gap is huge between our first class standard and international.

These guys need to learn how Viv Richards got it done. He was raw and attacking like them, but learned that he needed a solid defense in order to succeed. From that Pakistan series, that was really Hetmeyer's downfall. His defence was very poor. At this level, that gap is too large. Sehwag is someone who played away from his body a lot, but when he defended, bat was near pad.

I share your view, King is one of the best batter seen in Jamaica in recent times!

I cannot wait for this explanation from Ragss! So what's the rational behind your assertion that Muddie batsmen have more prestige than Yardies? I think it not only incorrect but also comical.

Maybe because of the following
1. Kanhai
2.Lloyd
3.Kallicharran
4.Chanderpaul
5.Butcher
6.Fredericks
7.Sarwan

All have over 3000 test runs

Brandon King is getting little attention due to the disrespect by his home team....fuh some reason Killa trying to kill his career...and he did not play most of the games due to injury as some claim...he was dropped!

Found out from a very reliable source that he was indeed injured. I was questioning it as well, because I didnt believe he was injured for that long. Same with Leveridge

In reply to XDFIX

Gimme Hetty. Not saying King is not probably good - it's no put-down of King I am giving. But from what I see, I would like to see Hetty get a long run because I believe he will come good.

Now, he has to do this quickly because the Windies are headed to England in August and the ball will be swinging even more. Th outs that I saw were from good balls that would have many good batsmen in trouble so let's see the development getting rewards as he is exposed to this level and reviews how he got out and can make amends.

While I tend to agree that they were all great WI batsmen (operative word here is were), what's the correlation with current Guyanese batsmen playing, except for The Shiv, the rest are less than "prestige", let's just Chandrika as an example and you might get my drift!

Slipfeeler 2017-05-22 16:32:32

Although I could have easily responded with this very Prestigious list of players:
1. George Headley
2. Allan Rae
3. Lawrence Rowe
4. Collie Smith
5. Jimmy Adams
6. Jeffery Dujon
7. Richard Austin
8. Chris Gayle
9. Stephanie Taylor ( just to let you know that Yardie prestige is not limited by gender) big grin big grin big grin

1st test:
ist innings:

8.2 84.5 mph, through him! Amir's off the mark. Spears in towards off stump, Hetmyer is caught back in the crease and can't get the bat down. Off stump goes cartwheeling 24/2

2nd innings:
20.3 51.4 mph, what a response! Big spin from the rough, rags into Hetmyer who is playing back, he plays the ball down into his leg and it ricochets into the stumps. Massive turn, and a touch of bad fortune for the batsman 72/2

2nd test:
1st innings:
5.3 81.0 mph, this time, Hetmyer falls to the trap. Poor, very poor. Again the one that goes across, the length is full and there for the drive. He looks to play away from the body, throws his bat at that and gets a thick edge to Azhar who takes an excellent catch at third slip. The ball was still on its way up when he collected it sideways. Familiar start for West Indies. 13/2

2nd innings:
16.1 83.6 mph, knocks him over with a in-dipper. Super seam position. Gets this to nip back in from length outside off, skids back in quicker that Hetmyer expected. There's no feet movement whatsoever. Instead he look to jab at the ball from the crease but this one kept a touch low to beat the inside edge and smash into the stumps. 41/2

3rd test:
1st innings:
30.6 51.1 mph, big appeal for caught behind, and Sarfraz asks for a review. Again it's just back of a length, again it turns sharply, past the shuffling batsman down leg. Looks to tuck it away into the leg side, and did that catch some glove on its way through to Sarfraz? Looks very close. We don't have Snicko, but there seems to be a bit of noise as it passes. Yup. Bruce Oxenford has to reverse his decision, and Hetmeyer has to walk back. 69/2

2nd innings:
17.5 87.9 mph, bowled him! Not for the first time this series, and this is another beauty! Full this time, with just a bit of late swerve into the left-hander. A poor shot, goes for the big drive through mid-off, and the ball sneaks through between bat and pad and knocks back off stump 47/3

Yes there are some instances where he faltered with poor judgement, not because they said so, but my main point is that he was dealing with either the swinging ball at pace from Amir, or the big spinning and bouncing ball from Shah, neither of which were easy. This is why I said good batsmen would have to pull out their best techniques to play most these balls he got out with.

In other words, I cannot fault him for playing rash shots, or lazily giving away his wicket, or being just out-to-sea against Pak bowling. It took good skill to play the balls he was facing and he faltered due to some chinks in his defensive armour and inexperience. I'm simply giving him time because I believe he will be a better batsman once he looks at these and figures out how to deal with these types of deliveries. It was no walk in the park.

The beauty with peeps who are into conspiracy theories, is the fact that they have no regard for facts or the truth. Even if all of the Jamaican selectors were to call a press conference with young King present and have him explain his injury, they would still deny it and tell us its politics and a coverup. The truth is that King is being victimized because of his skin tone. Wow, you cant make this shit up, our cricket talent is piss poor and we have another Yagga Rowe that we refuse to unleash. Lol

Slipfeeler 2017-05-22 19:24:54

In reply to NYCGURU

I share your sentiment that while the cupboard is almost bare, we are acting like we have talent galore in waiting by refusing to play certain players, usually based on non-cricketing reasons. Next season I would love to see Brandon King; Leveridge; the return of Bonner at JA opening position with Stephen Taylor, opening with him; while Allen also looks good; Derval Green has potential; while Andre McCarthy needs to start believing in his enormous talent, he is playing way below his potential; Walton could play #3 position, Campbell always brilliant with bat and ball; Thomas needs a break out season; Russell should be back for next season and Capt Miller at the helm as best spinner in the region, partnering with the talented Jacobs, twin spin.

Team might be:
1. S. Taylor
2. Bonner
3. Walton (Wk)
4. Campbell
5. King
6. McCarthy
7. Allen
8. Miller ( Cpt)
9. Jacobs
10. J. Taylor
11. Leveridge
12. D. Greene
13. Thomas (Yardie)

So you choose to continue with a comspiracy theory rather than come with the facts. What utter rubbish you write.

Why dont you try reading my post a little slower and try to grasp my point. Did you not see me state that conspiracy theorists have no regard for truth or facts. I was laughing at the theory that young King was not hurt and was somehow being held back because of politics or skin tone. All tongue in cheek lad. Even though i love Jamaica and have visited the last three years and the recent test against Pakistan, am not from there and no nothing about their so called politics.I was poking fun at the sad theory and you missed it by a mile. Lol

No worries champ. I thought it sad that at a time when we are surely in need of cricket talent,we would be keeping a young man down who could be part of the solution for reasons other than cricket. Am looking forward to seing him bat like all the others who i have not seen.

Man is now T20 specialist but will make team if available for selection, same for Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Blackwood, Cotterrell, and Russell. Jamaica A team playing since the senior team members are all unavailable to play for the last three seasons for various reasons.
