uhhhhhhhh. So elegant, such a lovely timer of the ball. So neat and compact in everything he does. Such a treat to watch him in any format. Brilliant in the field as well.

Isn't Rahane beautiful to watch....
In reply to Devin
On the contrary, I think Rahane looks good only on a flat track OR against poor bowling.
AND THIS IS NOT ANY HATE.
---
Lets EXAMINE THE FACTS
TEST CRICKET
This past season Rahane played 11 tests at HOME and scored only 1 hundred, that too vs NZ in Indore. Complete blank against Eng, Aus and BL.
His overall batting average was under 40.
ODI
Rahane(s) Overall Career Avg is 33 after 75 ODIs. That is really not top class.
He scored 103 yesterday, which was his First century after 3 years.
The less said about this WI bowling attack the better.
T20s
He averages 20 in T20s. with SR of 113. Again not top class.
So much so he got dropped from the T20 team in 2016.
Now coming to your reference to his Timing / Looking good comment.
Look man, I agree against mediocre bowling and on flat tracks he does look good.
But against top class spinners he is found wanting with his foot work.
Even the Aussie spinners had him all clueless whether to play on the front foot or back foot.
Then against good swing bowling or short pitch stuff, he again seems all at sea...
So IMHO, Rahane is not world class. He did have a good start to his career and avg over 50 in tests some years back
BUT THE FACT IS .. that TOP TEAMS HAVE SORTED HIM OUT.

Partner, you don't watch Rahane. I'll say Rahane is the most adept of all the Indian batsmen. When all found hell in England, Rahane produced a sparkling century at lords. Dominated the last time India was in Australia. On some tracks where nobody got runs, man scored only century. Rehang is sheer class. His test form of late took a dip but class is class, he'll be back.

Leff thefacts..he is one of those who run their mouths using shallow numbers..
In reply to Devin
You getting mad romantic son.
In reply to thefacts
He's a classy batsman, but has struggled in ODIs and 20:20s. In Tests he is a really classy batsman who has done well abroad, better than he has at home.
All in all sublime when he's playing well.
In reply to thefacts
But all I've ever heard is that every pitch in India is flat.
His 96 vs South Africa in South Africa is still one of my favourite knocks.
In reply to thefacts
He is arguably India's best all conditions batsman.

THE FACTS DONT SUPPORT YOUR GUESSWORK
Ajinkya Rahane Test Record, Location Wise
in England: 5 Tests, Avg:33.22
in India: 16 Tests, Avg: 39.68
in Sri Lanka: 3 Tests, Avg: 29.66
In reply to thefacts
I didn't make that statement. I'm only commenting about the beauty of his batting.
In reply to Devin
Appears it was a copy-paste error.
Anyways....
Look man, I don't disagree with you, that he looks very good when he is going on...
But next time, observe how his footwork is very iffy against spinners, he is almost playing them from the crease.
Notice, how he doesn't go way back in his crease, or regularly dance down the wicket.
Most of the time he plays from the crease.
In reply to thefacts
He does have an issue when picking/judging length against the spinner. I noticed that during India's home campaign. He was looking to either pull or cut deliveries that weren't short enough and ended up getting bowled on a few occasions.
It looked very schoolboy-ish. I can only assume that he's worked on his game.
In reply to Devin
Exactly. Now we are on the SAME PAGE.
Cheers.

How come you left out his record in RSA, OZ, NZ?
His record in England isn't special, but he fared better than most if not all on that tour.
RSA he made a 96 and 51* when India got owned.
England he made a 100 at Lords, everyone struggled.
OZ he had a big 100 with a couple fifties to boot.
NZ a good 100 batting with the tail.
He also did well in WI.
Not to mention the twin hundreds he made at home vs RSA, in conditions when all batsmen (including Indian batsmen) struggled.
He was out of form this home season, he probably doesn't bully at home as much as he should, but most regard him as the best all-conditions batsmen for India. He's also a big team man, gets shunted all around the order.

One Tour is NOT A CAREER.
In reply to CricketLuva4
Bro, I don't want to strip you naked here...
so let me just sail you in the right direction....
Go and check the batting records of Virat (only failure England) compare to Rahane.
You will find your statements shortcomings self-evident.
cheers
In reply to thefacts
But you quoting one tour of SL and England above?
In reply to thefacts
Rahane 40 at home, 51 away.
Pujara 63 at home and 33 away (WOW!)
Virat 55 at home and 44 away.
In reply to CricketLuva4
My position is overall career averages. If its one tour, then thats his career.
But your position is taking one tour and making that into a career.
Hope you understand the difference.
Enough Free Education for today.
cheers

Pujara 63 at home and 33 away (WOW!)
Virat 55 at home and 44 away.
You have to get into the DETAILS dude.
And your premise was "All Conditions"...
IMO, that criteria is still held by Virat Kohli.
Rahane is very suspect against SPINNERS on low tracks.
In reply to thefacts
My position is him being India's best overseas batsman, which the facts do back up.
Nowhere did I say he was India's best batsman.
Cheers to you too....

First:
Then Goal Post Shifted:
INFERENCE OF LOGIC:
Overseas = All Conditions,
so then Home = No Conditions ...
Bro, you a boot licker or pyss drinker????
HILARIOUS!!!!
In reply to CricketLuva4
one friendly advice bro...
watch the highlights of Rahane(s) games closely how he plays spinners from the crease and gets into all sorts of trouble.
and that will also tell you a story how Rahane thus does better in bouncier wickets against pacers (SA) than low-slow wickets against top class spinners (India, Sri Lanka)
In reply to thefacts
That's what I meant the first time, don't nit pick at my 6am grammar.
In reply to thefacts
He did struggle this home season against fairly average spinners. I wouldn't call it the norm however. He still can really play spin. As Devin said, he has issues picking length and hence hangs back in the crease.
His success overseas is due to his ability to play late more than anything. That's why he handles the swinging ball well.
