ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The Selection Panel of Cricket West Indies today named the Windies 13-man squad for third, fourth and fifth matches of the ODI Series against India.

The selection panel named two newcomers. They are Kyle Hope, a 28–year-old top-order batsman and brother of Shai Hope; and Sunil Ambris, a 24-year-old wicket-keeper/batsman.

The third and fourth matches will be played at Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground on Friday, June 30 and Sunday, June 2. First ball is 9 am (8 am Jamaica Time).

The fifth match will be played at Sabina Park on Thursday, July 6. First ball is 9am (10am Eastern Caribbean Time).

FULL SQUAD (with shirt numbers)
98. Jason Holder (captain)
99. Sunil Ambris
70. Devendra Bishoo
10. Roston Chase
41. Miguel Cummins
1. Kyle Hope
4. Shai Hope
18. Alzarri Joseph
17. Evin Lewis
93. Jason Mohammed
5. Ashley Nurse
23. Kieran Powell
52. Rovman Powell

Quotes from Courtney Browne, CWI Chairman Of Selectors, on the two new players: Sunil Ambris and Kyle Hope are two very promising young batsmen who have been selected on the basis of strong performances in our competitions.

Kyle opened on our last “A” Team One-Day tour to Sri Lanka and had some very good performances. In addition, he also had a good showing opening the batting for the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force franchise in this year’s PCL competition.

Sunil did well in our Regional Super50 One-Day tournament and also had a good showing in this year’s PCL first-class tournament for Windward Islands Volcanoes and therefore will fit within our middle order. They will be up against a good Indian team and they have an opportunity to show their skills and contribute to a stronger team performance.

Good luck to the two newcomers, but they have a tough team to debut against. I think real soon the WICB have to look at the decisions making of the Selectors.

Wonder what Williams did to get dropped

Keswick is a victim of the old 'scrambled brain' WICBC policy of pick him, let him sit on the bench without being proven in the middle, then dismiss him soonest.

Why give him a sniff and not a bite? And what was said to him on the way out?

Williams is in the squad, Kieran Powell is the one out.

Williams is in Antigua. News release has an error.

That would make more sense. As much as sense is not synonymous with CWI, I don't see them dropping a bowler for a batsman.

Still a Bajans and Friends unit. Good.

Powell and Carter are two batsmen that need to go. I can't under the picking and dropping of Williams who took wickets against Afghanistan in T20s but cannot make the one day side where the bowling, apart from Gabriel, is not penetrative or controlled. We are now at the stage where we have absolutely nothing to lose. We need to start blooding players who can form the nucleus of the team that must participate in the World Cup qualifiers.

Agree...but how can we know if a player is worth his salt if you don't play him?

Why do we keep picking bowling personnel who cannot be relied upon to bowl out the other team and normally cannot contain batting blitz by the other teams? Especially, if we do not have batsmen who can regularly make 300 runs.

Even if our batsmen have "thick heads" and need to grow in competence...please pick our best wicket taking bowlers and who can be relied upon for regular line and length bowling. Pick bowlers who can put the ball on a pitch where it is intended!!!!!

Pick Cornwall (very few times he goes around the park and he is hungry to take wickets).
Pick Miller (nobody in the West Indies keeps batsmen more quiet and if the opposing batsmen miss, he hits the stumps).
Pick Leveredge (half the time he willbe hit for many runs, but the other half he will scare batsmen especially for 10 overs and often take wickets).
Pick Jacobs (he is a leg spinner who takes wickets and often keeps batsmen guessing as to what he will bowl next)
Pick Shane Shillingford (even with his adjusted bowling action is hard to be put around the park)
Keep picking Alzari Joseph (who learns and goes forward with every match he plays)
Pick Keon Joseph or Braitwaite (who are left handed bowlers who are not the same as many rubbish bowlers we have)
Pick Gabriel when he is fit
Only pick Holder (as a 6th or 7th bowler for our ODI team)

Why the hell is Bishoo and Cummings being presented repeatedly as good bowlers?

Unbelievable that Cornwall cannot make this squad, he should have been the first change into the squad.

Don't see us playing two off spinners together. If Nurse gets dropped then Cornwall should be the next in line.

Why is that so hard to believe? Haven't we been complaining about the recent selection policies the last few months?

Stumpoff 2017-06-29 22:40:58

No issue with dropping the under performed batsmen. But the bigger issue is not been able to bowl out India for under 250. This is very hard to do, I know, base on their experience exposure. But if India keep making 300 plus then, there is no chance for West Indies. So its time look at a different bowling combination/formula.
