Lewis: Disrespectful gesture?

ProWI 2017-07-09 14:48:53

"That is a pretty disrespectful gesture. Players kiss their helmets on reaching 100, not throw them on the ground." Naman finds fault with what has otherwise been a brilliant T20 innings

ray 2017-07-09 14:49:36

the man must be pissed at the helmet lol

Jeffrey Dijon was the first to raise it on commentary

Devin 2017-07-09 15:00:12

Probably was taking out his frustration over the fact that he looked clueless in the ODI series.

Emir 2017-07-09 15:02:12

In reply to FuzzyWuzzy

How can you be disrespectful to a helmet- I can guarantee you the helmet has no emotions and no feelings. wink

He threw the helmet to the ground as a way to say I got the demons off my head- the demons during the ODI's

Let us all celebrate his fantastic innings today and the impact the stars had on his performance.

Didn't actually see the incident, so I can't comment on the gesture, only report it.

As for any racial inclinations on my part, I see less race than connected historical facts. As to race in this case, the reference did go over my head.

I responded wrongly to Mike's post. Mike was not referring to you.

Further, I saw your Jazz musician relatives and just thought you can't be Indian.

.....................

As per the gesture of throwing the helmet to the ground...de yutie did it out of exuberance...nothing more, nothing less.

I am in now way diminishing the need for persons to respect symbols.

Pacy 2017-07-09 15:09:19

It was instinctive and Dujon brought it up first. Response of the co commentator Harsha Bhogle was the best. He just cut the discussion by saying "he will learn with experience". Loved the way Harsha shrugged that complaint.

What a sendoff Mindia got lol

Drapsey 2017-07-09 15:13:48

Uniquely, when Shiv scored a hundred he used to kiss the ground. Not only was he not emulated, no one complained.

What if this young man chooses to toss his helmet in celebration of a ton? The only one who should take exception would be the helmet manufacturer who missed out on the promotion of their brand that would've been afforded by the 'traditional' kiss.

Neither are flags and other national symbols. Players from other countries kiss their hats, helmets or anything that contains a national emblem.

We must pinch and remind ourselves that for many, in particular the players, their team does not represent a Nation, so naturally, personal achievements don't generate the same national pride; just pride in one's self.

BeatDball 2017-07-09 15:23:14

It wasn't a professional thing to do, but wi were given buss arses by the paks n now the mindians; he didn't score well for the series, so he was filled with joy + anger at his ton!

The helmet represents CWI colours. Some may think that to throw it on the ground shows disrespect for the colour even though disrespect was not intended. I remember people in Jamaica complaining about the flip/flop made by China and contained the Jamaican flag emblem. People bought it and wore it without thinking that they were troding on the Jamaican flag.

Runs 2017-07-09 15:51:45

Skunt man WI just beat a top tier team and instead of celebrating alyuh pessimistics finding misery from out of the victory to snatch on to. evil

This clueless batsman now joins Mr. CH Gayle and Mr.B. Mucullum as the only batsmen to have scored two T20I 100's. How many does Kholi have Devin?

This is now the highest score by a West Indies batsman in a T20I.

Headley 2017-07-09 18:07:12

He was carrying the helmet jumping punching the air and chewing gum at the same time and the helmet flew out of his hand. Inelegant clumsy overexcited boy.

ITo interpret it as disrespectful to someone is a real stretch

De ICC go soon start issuing yellow cards for dem kinda ting like when footballers tek off dem jersey.

If we look hard enuff every gesture go be disrespectful to somebody or de other or some institution or custom

No one really cares, apart from a handful of West Indians. He is a cowlasher who looks perfectly suited to 20/20 cowlashing.

Play an ODI and he is exposed for the non-thinking dunce that he is, much like all the cricketers produced by the West Indies over the past 20+ years.

T20 is Cowlash cricket so every one who score 50s and Tons in this format is a cowlasher not a batsman. No matter how young old experienced or from what country India, WI, Pommieland, OZ, Black Caps, Sri Lanka, Bang Bang, you name it none can bat. wink

Amla score 2 T20 hundreds this year, so by your definition he is a cowlasher.

I understand why tests will always be the number one version of the game, but we must not go bashing the game as if it serves no purpose.I can't help but notice the shorter version of the game is bringing in more spectators to the game, thus more money, and getting some players richer, isn't that a plus, many will think so.For people to say that these players can't bat,is quite a bland and stupid statement to make,if they don't have something sensible to say, they should zip it.

jelfew 2017-07-11 13:11:43
