The girl is on the march - a game away from the quarter finals

ProWI 2017-07-10 09:12:41

She looks hot. The best serving I have seen from her for years. No soft second serves.

Just caught a replay of the all-Williams Wimbledon final in early 2000's****I forgot how good she was....she covered that court like a cat....

Some of the most compelling tennis you can find

analyst-kid 2017-07-13 11:00:50

Even to reach the finals is an achievement for a 37 year old woman in tennis.

Remember Graf was a spent force at 30.

mikesiva 2017-07-13 11:03:31

In reply to analyst-kid

Venus leads 5-2 in the second set.

How old was Martina when she won her last Slam, as a curiosity?

Edited because Wikipedia is cool: Martina's last Slam was in 1990, at age 33. Her last Slam final was in 1994 at age 37, she lost to Conchita Martinez

Ayenmol 2017-07-13 11:10:31

Dukes 2017-07-13 11:13:42

Martina won her last Slam in 1990 at age 33 but reached the Wimbledon final a few months short of her 37th birthday

Ayenmol 2017-07-13 11:14:45

Am pretty impressed by Venus maturation. I remember when Venus had all the power and athleticism and couldn't overcome a 15-40 deficit on serve.

Now most of that speed and agility is gone and her game today was what I dreamed of 15 years ago.

nick2020 2017-07-13 11:18:53

Congrats to Venus. Hope she can take this one.

Chrissy 2017-07-13 11:21:00

Venus was 37 on June 17th

Sure? She's beating players half her age...and in straight sets!

She's not lightning quick as a cat but she's quick enough!

wink smile

Oilah 2017-07-13 14:52:10

big grin big grin big grin

My heart had Venus but muh head had Konta...Happy tuh be wrong big grin

Ayenmol 2017-07-13 16:59:11

In reply to SirGarny

Dude' there were a few shots Konta hit that Venus never moved for. Even aces where she extended her racket but never moved her feet. At 20? Venus woulda chased all these shots down. She is moving better than Davenport did at the end, but she cant accelerate for balls anymore just normal movement.

Who was it on here who said there has been no female athlete who has won a major event after the age of 30??

Can't seem to remember who it was but I am sure we can do some digging to find out.
