Not close, they're still ranked below Afghanistan. But it does help us get closer to Sri Lanka, they will lose some ranking points from the series loss.

This just illustrates how stupid it is to have ICC full members--like Zimbabwe--qualify to play the World Cup. Champions trophy, yes. But World Cup should include all full members with associates playing a qualifying tournament.

In reply to JOJOEven that is a farce. ICC needs to look at how FIFA WC and Championship Trophy competitions work. The Confederations Cup is one example that lets Cup Winners play for a Major Trophy. Similar to Golf even if its an individual sport - You win a major you qualify. Same with the ICC World Championship, let teams play an equal amount of sanctioned WC qualifying matches over the 3 year period to get points from those matches. Traditional multi revenue generating series that teams set up on their own shouldn't give you points ( they are sort of friendlies.

Why not have *all* members play a qualifying tournament instead? Seems like a far more fair and meritocratic system.
Or, as Scar suggests, have everybody play a set of fixed length series with World Cup qualification at stake.
Of course, the ICC is run by the FMs, unlike FIFA and everybody else. So unlikely to happen especially if a 'big country' would be at risk of not qualifying.
