He should pay it back!

The Minister of Finance no less.

There is a reason Bad Debtors should not be eligible to hold Financial Management positions.

He should pay it back and RESIGN from that position immediately.

Sick!

Hmmmmmmmm!

I remember their attacks on Arnaldo Brown for his $400,000 phone bill.

I remember that too...but the figures were more than twice that...and that for a junior minister..

TVJ & Gleaner dated 10/31/14..

Junior Foreign Affairs Minister Arnaldo Brown says the more than $1 million in telephone charges he racked up within a year on his Government-issued mobile phone were genuinely incurred.

In a statement released through the governing People's National Party's secretariat, Brown conceded that the bills were very high, but he blamed what he said was the high cost of roaming for voice and data services.

His admission came three days after a Television Jamaica report revealed that his telephone bill for the period between July 2013 and June 2014 accounted for a huge chunk of the $5 million in telephone charges incurred by 11 government ministries.

The report also revealed that in June this year alone, he had a telephone bill of $410,000.

By comparison, Foreign Affairs Minister A.J. Nicholson has a telephone bill of $230,000 for the same 12-month period.

I WOULD BET A MAN Nicholson's age had no data usage for that period!

AJ Nick probably still using telegrams! and calling collect!

Anyhow..

The Ministry of Finance has been tasked to advise the Prime Minister, within a week, on the appropriate amount for the cap to be paid by each ministry for the minister’s cellular phone bills.
"Any amount exceeding the cap should, therefore, be the responsibility of the respective ministers unless otherwise approved by the Permanent Secretary," the spokesperson said.
In the meantime, the Minister of Science, Energy and Technology has been mandated to enter into discussions with telecommunications providers to devise standard cell phone and data packages for Government ministers.

All that is loooonng overdue! Particularly after their criticism of Arnaldo Brown's excess back in 2014...

No arrangements for the abusers to pay the bills were detailed. It will be a 9 day issue.

I don't think anyone else made the point you made that the optics on a man who happens to be the Finance Minister are very bad, and should lead to immediate termination -- on that count alone!

With this level of gross watchlessness and carelessness, the question must be asked:

Is the country's money safe?? Can he be trusted to be the keeper of our finances??

Those were valid questions raised when he had his first stint. We all know how that ended with the IMF walking away.

Peter Phillips fought against many forces to work with the IMF to stabilize the country and laid the foundation for what we are seeing now.

It would be a kick in the gut of all those who work so hard to Jamaica back on track for this careless man to damage it.

PS. Nobody has stolen my handle.
