Just read on CricInfo that this guy took a 4 fer in a T20 game and looking back at old news stories he seems to have some potential - alas it does seem we have lost him to County Cricket
Anyone heard of him? Know if he still plays in the West Indies?

Jofra Archer
Jofra is in the English set up now and has aspirations of playing for the Brits. He has a British passport so I don't see him coming back home to play for the Windies.

If i was advising him, I would tell him to come back if he wants to play test cricket. The England team has about a dozen good fast bowlers. I would certainly encourage him to keep playing county cricket. He could learn a lot from Vernon Philander.

Shame - another lost potential talent...

Tek de Passport but come play fuh Windies,if yuh play for England they will drop yuh if yuh doh get 5 wickets everytime.
He's cranking up the pace as well... watched the previous televised T20 game Sussex played and he bowled a couple of superb 90mph yorkers.. plenty of high 80's stuff.... gets bounce as well.
Not sure if he wants to play for WI but if he was available (and he wont be right now because he's kolpak) I'd pick him in the WI squad with Gabriel and AlJo.

I didn't see the interview but apparently on Sky Sports he said that he would 'jump at the chance to play for England '.... I agree... if he was available I would pick him to play for the Windies now !

I am inclined to say that the West Indies board should reach out to fellas like him, but then again, what can they offer him? At $5,000 per test, he would be mad to give up his county pick, even if he never plays for England, to get a few test matches with WI. Therein lies the folly of the Cameron / Hinds concocted pay system. Socialism always looks like a good idea on paper but its output inevitably trends towards mediocrity.

We are not serious about cricket and recruiting. I'm sure our selectors or board has not reached out to the young man to woo him in. Do we see how England has poached the best talents from South Africa, Ireland, West indiea etc? They go.after then and get them firmly into thier system. We feel that we have nuff other riches. Chris Jordan is nowhere close to test selection anymore and I'm sure he old be doing decent for us.
Anyways those guysanne are still better of financially in the English system even when they are fringe players so can't blame them.
one year english cricket contract is about 700k pounds
that's about 7 years with the wicb
one test match with england is about 12k pounds
1 test match with the wicb is about 3k pounds
1 year contract with county 40k pounds plus
1 year contract with pcl about 20k pounds
is it a hard choice?

He will never play for the WI...Ruel and CJ said so...

That is the crux of the problem. WI administrators do not understand that they have the systems or money to match some of the other countries. When there is talent and options players tend to look for themselves.
WI needs to understand this reality and create an inclusive model that embraces all these talent which should only help WI.
I remember Drakes and Nash come in and contribute to WI cricket. WI needs to recognise the talent playing in English, SA or Aussie FC cricket and see how they can be brought into the fold.

Andy he is not a kolpak....he is British...I spoke to his dad last year thinking he was bajan but he said he was from Liverpool. I believe jofras mother is bajan but now he is settled in the U.K....( he did return to Barbados last September for his granny's funeral)chris Jordan is his mentor. I don't think there is any possibility he would leave a professional set up in uk to return to being an amateur...

Well, I think it will be hard for him to earn or maintain a place in the English test team. He has a good chance of being a fixture in the Windies test team. He also seems able to play all formats. He should certainly keep his county contract..
700 K is a lot of money though. Immediate millionaire.
It would be good if private enterprises would supplement CWI contracts. So maybe Massy could match Darrens CWI contract.

The thing is Archer played for the west indies under 19 so we had our opportunity to secure him.
However we cannot compete with English money. As doosra points out even county cricket pays better than the wicb. And there'sless politics in the counties too.
Hola...Jofra Archer my boy...run as fast as you can away from this forum..(if you reading the comments etc)..
Most poster here cannot face reality...
You will play more cricket as an Englishman...not as a West Indian...
Can anyone remember that fast bowler chap from Monsterrat(I think)..that gave up a chance to play in England because he wanted to be a West Indian player...
Archer you are English ...now go and fight and perform and hopefully you get an opportunity to represent the country of your birth.
Adios
CB
come in Sudden, I thought you went to school with Archer's daddy.

as far as i know Jofra's father was born in the UK and it is from him that Jofra obtained his UK citizenship. i am not aware that Jofra was born in the UK.
i know he went to Foundation and until about a couple years ago he had all intentions of playing for WI.
i understand he is concentrating on representing England.
you should shout out Tante Merle. i saw a post from her once about Jofra and she seems to know a lot more.
what i know is that most of what is written above is incorrect
