they doing better than their last match with the same oponent a few days ago

The attacking skills are sub par.
The eight players on defence are well supported by an excellent keeper. It may frustrate Mexico but it's hard to watch.
Rahiem Sterling is the only player born in Jamaica who seems to have any attacking skills above mediocre. Strange.
In reply to Headley
I do not understand why they can't execute 2 successive passes to a teammate successfully. One pass and run wid de ball only to be disposessed. Poor spacing, poor teamwork, poor offense.

Whitmore doing what he have to do to win

Very well placed shot. Really thought Reggae boys had better scoring opportunities than Mexico. The one place kick Mexico had at the top of the box was poorly placed.
that was some hell of a free kick goal by JA - the goalie didnt even move and the ball wasent struck hard it was just so well placed

The strategy worked. Jamaica was a lot more attacking in the second half and expectations always become a problem when Mexico don't score early. In the end the result is what counts.
Magnificent freekick by Taxi Lawrence. Ole!
In reply to Ayenmol
the goalkeeper was poorly positioned
In reply to birdseye
Would not surprise me if he goes to Europe soon.
In reply to methodic
The ball was well positioned!

it was a great free kick - it looked so easy and Ja reaction was such that i thought something was amis - and the goal didnt count
In reply to birdseye
Better scoring opportunities does not mean more scoring opportunities. The Jamaicans were too often late in delivering the ball or capitalize on breakdowns in the Mexican defense.

The Goalkeeping on both Teams was good ; however the Free Kick in the second
half by Jamaica , was superb , the Mexican Defenders in the Wall were all airborne , as the ball from the camera angle curled as if it was going outside , and then curled inwards beating the Mexican Keeper and ending up in the Net not far from the Right
Corner Post ; with the Mexican GoalKeeper either Flat footed or was positioned poorly .
The camera panned on a Mexican throwing down his Sombrero in disgust was Priceless ; but that's Life . The Two Teams seemed evenly balanced , but the Goalkeeping
by both Teams was great .

Great match

He is what kept us in di competition not just di match
Andre Blake is already a top-5 all time Jamaican goalie. He has delivered on the promise showed at high school and UConn. At some point Withmore will have to explain the continued absence of "Speedy" Williams from his squad. Outside of Mattocks, there is not one player on this team who seems comfortable on the ball or have the ability to make telling passes, this is where "Speedy" comes in.
The team is slow, unable to string passes together, holds on to the ball to long and laboriously move the ball forward. Nevertheless, congrats to the team.
Goalie was the difference, although Jamaica seemed to have better scoring chances than Mexico...
the best period for the team in the last two years and this is despite not having and English player on the team!

Strange, but I have to agree.

The era of the foreign born players is finally over. It was initially a good idea, but like many things in Ja it was overdone.
In reply to JoeGrine
Bwoy Joe, I thought I was one of the few making that deduction. Spot on.
We lack ball control. Simple passes go astray. Cannot build up anything.
With Mexico, we had height, speed and physical advantage. Why cant we do better at ball movement? Unbelievable!!!
However, with US Ja will be ready. At least we're not scared of them.

I am looking forward to the match -
Congrats to the Yardies. Well done!
In reply to birdseye
because the team has superior speed, they employ the counter play but they are passing much better than under the German guy that was just fired.
In reply to methodic
The Mexican gk was confused. He didn't know who was going to take the shot. When it finally dawned on him where the shot was coming from, he realized he was not going to make it.
It didn't help that the Mexican defenders were on the short side.
Wow! Well done!
Last night watching the game I thought I heard a collective BLOOOOODDDDCCCCCLLLAAAAATTTTTTT!!!
from millions of Jamaicans and supporters all over de world when de ball settled in de net
In reply to birdseye
Well we knocked them out 2 years ago. They have brought in their top players, but Ja will be ready.US will be favored.
I think what was weird about the goal was that the Mexican players were standing still, the crowd had gone absolutely quiet. It was like nothing had happened at all.
Jamaica winning (again) in a stadium filled by mostly opposing team-supporters, brilliant. Would be nice to see them do it again.
Too bad the Gold Cup heroics haven't manifested itself in the World Cup campaigns, but what can ya do.
In reply to RoyalDad
You will not have the same height advantage vs US....hope it's a good match
In reply to Tryangle
The goal and it's aftermath was very weird...for a minute I thought something was wrong..that there was a foul or something and it would be waved off
Most of the teams in the GC are in the Hex for the WC,as such Mexico,Hond,Costa Rica ,USA and Mexico are using quite a lot of bench and players who can potentially be of use later on.Please don't tell me this is sour grapes,I have always backed Jamaica and the reason they didn't make it to the Hex,was the fact that their group was a very tough one,but they almost made it.I feel, had they qualified for the Hex they would have easily qualified for the WC,unlike TT,all I ever hear is a load of crap coming from the football fraternity.
Still though,it's great that Jamaica is again showing the way,and isn't that good for Caribbean football.

Actually, I think JA pulled a fast one. It was another player, a right-footer (Fisher?) who lined up to take the shot. The Mexican goal-keeper got his wall set up.
The ref blew his whistle.
At that moment the "Taxi" came to the spot and lifted the ball before replacing it on the spot.
The ref came over to see what was happening. It appears he was satisfied with Taxi's explanation (which would have been that he was going to take the shot).
The thing is that Taxi is a left-footer! And the goalie was still being protected by his right-footer wall!
And then the shot. It was a beauty. (A parabola someone said). Curved so nicely - both out and in, and up and down - the Mexican goalie just had to stand in awe of its perfection.
//
significant fact! Jamaica's squad
9 local based players
8 MLS players
4 US division 2 players
1 guy plays in Sweden
1 in Serbia
0 from England!

the keeper and most people watching thought Binns was the one taking the kick only to see Lawrence.
