pull off the double? he is listed in the 200 today. I dont know if it is going to make him vulnerable to Makwala in the 400?

Can Nathon Allen get a bronze? He would need to run sub 44.

My prediction.

Van Niekerk
Gardiner
Makwala/Allen
Thebe
Kerley
Gaye
Haroun

I believe Van Niekerk and Makwala will do just enough to get through the 200m heats today. In 2015 Makwala ran 43.93 in the 400m heats and 44.63 in the finals. He did not get past the semis in Rio. This year he is running like 2015 again.

I like Allen lane draw in lane 5 in between van niekerk and Gardnier. I think he will go under 44

well.. it looks like he pulled out of the heat. he was slated for the heat with warren weir. I wonder what the rules are. Cause I know at the JA national trials, unless u are injured, you would need to show up and pick the start and get thrown out.

Yep you are right, if he has withdrawn from the 200m, he will not be able to run the 400m.

I think he will go under 44

See my comment on the other thread re the college season.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) said Makwala withdrew from the 200m "due to a medical condition on the instruction of the IAAF medical delegate".

Apparently athletes at one of the hotels were affected by a gastro virus

Thanks. Even a slghtly affected Makwala is in trouble against other elite athletes.

Can you imagine the negative publicity if this happened in a third world country?

In reply to Headley

Ah believe dat Elaine may have been one of de affected athletes.

The thing is dat our fellow West Indians would have been the ones making de biggest stink if it had happened in one of our countries

Quite right. Remember that fuss British journalists made over zika in Brazil?

Makwala out so wade van niekerk is on track for the double.

Makwala also out of the men's 400m final tonight...forced out by the IAAF.

This is nonsense

Tough two days. Some days the fish feed you and some days you feed the fish. big grin

Both women's hurdles and the relays to come.

Bolt was the master of the double. These boys think they can do it but finding out the hard way.

lol

Makwala runs essentially a time trial, gets loud ovation.

Some real drama happening this Worlds, for sure.

In reply to DukeStreet

I think the 200-400 double is harder. Michael Johnson and Marie Jose Perec really worked hard back in 96.
