HEADLINE: Why are West Indies so poor - and can problems be fixed?

We thought they might struggle. But this badly?

West Indies were beaten by an innings and 209 runs by England at Edgbaston, losing a record 19 wickets in a day.

The entire team, in two attempts, batted for a total of six and a half hours. England opener Alastair Cook managed almost 10 on his own.

To the casual observer, it might have been a surprising margin of defeat.

But, in the words of Test Match Special commentator Fazeer Mohammed: "It was just another day. West Indies are being decimated in a Test in England, like they have been for the past 17 years."

It is natural to compare the current side, who have not won a Test in England since 2000, with great West Indies teams of the past.

The 1980s side that terrified batsmen and bowlers alike was one of a kind. You cannot will a team to be better just because you remember their history fondly.

There are undoubtedly problems in West Indies cricket. But what are they? And how can they be fixed?

In reply to CaribbeanCricket.com

For 14 freaking years I have pointed out ALL the Ills of West Indies Cricket , despite being criticized in this Forum .

CHANGED MUST START AT THE TOP NOT

AT THE BOTTOM .

I find it very interesting that the WICBC Bootlickers in the Media are only prepared to worship the Big Idiots in the WICBC .

THEY ALSO ARE A LARGE PART OF THE

PROBLEM , REGARDING CRICKET IN THE

REGION .

They have utterly failed to address the fact that those in the WICBC have
commissioned several Reports , and on receiving those Reports do absolutely nothing regarding the fact that the
WICBC has bamboozled the Public , regarding changing their 89 years old
Structure .

The Truth is that the current Structure allows those in the WICBC
to be not Accountable ; Transparent ;
and refuse to adhere to the Principles of Good Governance .

It is fair to ask the people in the
WICBC , if they have on board a Team
of Former Players , to correct the faults & Flaws of Young Promising
Players ????

FOR CRICKET IN THE REGION TO IMPROVE

AND BE FULLY COMPETITIVE REQUIRES

AN EXPENDITURE OF MONEY . I GET THE

IMPRESSION THAT THE WICBC IS NOT

PREPARED TO DO THAT .

Obviously this factually demonstrates
the Shortsightedness of those in the
WICBC . Now I have never heard that
the WICBC has been banned from having
Dances , Raffles ; etc to raise Funds.

Cricket in the Region is currently at Rock Bottom , and to make our Players fully competitive in the International Cricket Arena entails
spending money to achieve that Goal .

The thinking of the WICBC/CWI has been & is on the wrong Track for Decades , at it seems that it has absolutely no intention of changing its Modus Operandi .

THAT BEING THE CASE THERE MUST BE IN

MY OPINION A TOTAL RESTRUCTURING OF

CRICKET IN THE REGION ; THAT MUST

ALSO INCLUDE THE REGIONAL BOARDS .
