Take back T&T from criminals

Mom’s throat slit but nothing taken; son tells public...

The people of Trinidad and Tobago have become quitters and cowards and it is high time now that they take back the country from the hands of criminals.

This was the advice given yesterday by environmentalist Stephen Broadbridge, as he spoke out about his mother’s gruesome murder on Saturday.

Dr Claire Broadbridge, 80, was found brutally murdered in the bedroom of her house on Saturday evening. Her throat was slit and her killer/s attempted to burn the house down by setting fire to a few pieces of furniture that was on the ground floor of her home.

Speaking outside their Fondes Amandes, St Ann’s home yesterday, Broadbridge said because murders are happening every day in T&T, people are becoming immune and more and more insensitive to them. He said it was time for the people of T&T to force the police, politicians and even themselves to do their respective job and duties.

He had apparently been shot multiple times about the body.

Governments must be held accountable and responsible for the safety of its citizens.

You can test it this way: can anybody tell me what are the basic philosophical differences between the PNM and the UNC? And I'm not talking about “who t'ief” and “who t'ief more”. I am talking about the philosophies and principles that ought to be the underpinning of any and all modern political parties.

Because I can't and I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that most people can't either.

We vote governments out of office when we perceive that they have messed up.

Wouldn't it be nicer if we voted a government in because we actually liked their policies and ideas?

Politics of distraction and bias

Since 6 a.m. on August 29 to the time of writing, the man who has perhaps fought more constitutional cases in the courts of Trinidad and Tobago protecting the rights of citizens, often-times pro bono, has been held in detention by the police for an alleged conversation three years ago which he categorically denied having.

A battery of police sneaked up on the residence of attorney Anand Ramlogan as if this officer of the court was a fugitive from justice, despite the fact that only weeks ago Mr Ramlogan declared publicly that he was available for questioning if asked. Ten police vehicles descended on the Palmiste residence of Mr Ramlogan.

Compare that to when an ordinary man is often told there are no vehicles to respond to complaints.
Why all the drama? Why now?

Buck must stop with PM

When she was in government, then prime minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar was held responsible, accountable and culpable for every single misdeed, mis-step and public misfeasance which occurred, whether she was directly or indirectly responsible or not. In that case, the buck stopped with the prime minister. If marijuana was found in the outside toilet used by her security and maintenance personnel, well, it was her narcotics, and it made no difference that she was out of the country.

How things have changed. As of now, it appears that there is no stopping the buck and in every case, the Prime Minister thinks he can escape blame. It cannot go on like this!

So we had Marlene Mcdonald—twice. Although the Prime Minister fired her, in the main he looked the other way. The Prime Minister then gave “roaming” Minister Shamfa Cudjoe a bligh and also hugged and said everything would be alright with Minister Darryl Smith in relation to his weekend jaunt in Tobago.

Then we had the Cabo Star and the deflowered Ocean Flower II. Much like the MV Su and BAE offshore vessels, the PNM’s political leader has tried to avoid blame, sitting in Tobago like a Pontius Pilate to declare pathetically that there appeared to be corruption from day one in the matter. This did not help the resulting massive problems in the tourism industry in Tobago.

I am not going to hang the Marcia Ayers-Caesar debacle matter around his neck until the “interpretation” matter is fleshed out by the court; that’s another letter altogether.

And now, as if all the foregoing weren’t sufficient, here comes Robert Le Hunte, a Ghanaian citizen, bold-facedly coming to assume ministerial office. Doesn’t the Prime Minister feel a little embarrassed?
Doesn’t the Prime Minister have any sense of professional shame?
The PNM harassed, attacked and made life hell for Bill Chaitan and Winston Peters for dual citizenship, and now, it’s just “oops” and another blighted appointment is revoked.

Did anybody check out this man since he was offered the post?
Dr Rowley is that you? This incompetence is too much for a government. What face do you wear when Monday you appoint someone and Tuesday you revoke it and then say well, we will come back in September. What fools this man takes this nation for!

Mr Le Hunte held all-day meetings with staff—pappyshowing big people! Maybe Dr Rowley still thinks he is hoodwinking us with his Section 34 charade and his emailgate trite. He has to be steering mad to resurrect TTT.
I call on the Prime Minister to resign and leave the captain’s deck. Go below, Sir, to the brig, and don’t you worry; we have been on our own since September 2015.

Wife, six children, homeless
...this man needs help

FOUR months after his home was destroyed in a fire, Point Fortin retiree Orji I is still awaiting the promised assistance.

He said there has been a lack compassion displayed by some State officials.

“After our home burned in April I had nowhere to go with my wife and six children. I went to our Member of Parliament Edmund Dillion to seek assistance but all he said to me was that he could not help us.”

“I didn't expect Dillon to provide a house for us, but given the situation and based on the fact that he's the MP for Point Fortin and a Government minister I expected him to use his resources in exploring avenues whereby we could have accessed some kind of meaningful assistance.”

He said when Dillon told him he could not help, it brought tears to his eyes as no effort was made to understand the position his family found themselves in.

Orji said his wife took their plight to the Office of the Prime Minister where she was given a letter to take to Social Welfare, however, that also failed to bear fruit.

Here goes Growley again with fake news

The situation came on the heels of comments made by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley, before he left the country on Friday, that a warrant had been issued to Moonilal in connection with allegations of misconduct in public office.

The PM said one of the names mentioned in the action was Moonilal’s and a warrant was subsequently issued.Moonilal, however, denied any knowledge of the document in an interview with CNC3 last night.

In his response to Bharath, Moonilal said the search warrant was now the subject of a court action against the police by Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj SC and the matter will come up on September 11 in San Fernando. Moonilal said he also intends to write Rowley following the PM’s recent statements.

'People scared for their lives'
...something must be done says Chamber president

PEOPLE are living in fear in this country and the authorities need to step up, says President of the Chaguanas Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vishnu Charran.

Charran was responding to the killing of Ramdevi Singh at her home in Chaguanas on Monday.

The Chamber president condemned the attack and said that he intends to meet with the Chaguanas Mayor Gopaul Boodhan, the senior superintendent of the Central Division and invite members of the public to discuss and make recommendations to help find solutions.

“Crime is rampant in this country today. People have no regard to other people lives in this country anymore and the country is in a sad state and the authorities need to do something. We cannot continue sitting by idly while criminals take over the country and the Minister of National security needs to step in. The police need to step up their investigations. They need to bring a sense of calm in the communities especially with what is happening. Now crimes are being committed in the heart of Chaguanas just a stone's throw away from the Chaguanas police station,” he said.

He bathed his dog, helped granny, then was shot dead

Relatives of Ronald Marshall were stunned by the news of his death, because as far as they were aware, the 24-year-old man was not involved in anything illegal or criminal.

Marshall, of Enterprise Road, Enterprise, was shot dead on Sunday at a car wash a short distance away from his home.

“To me, he was always a nice little fella. I'm not going to put my head on a block and pretend I know his entire business or his entire life. But as far as we were aware he wasn't in anything. He was helping his family there with a little business and thing and was working. The last thing he did before they killed him was bathe the dog at his home, and washed out his grandmother yard. After that his grandmother said she was cleaning some pumpkin to cook later (on Sunday) and she see people running on the road and heard the shots, and it was over like that,” relative said.

Rowley is special and mustn't be held accountable,it's always like that for all the previous PNM governments,Rowley's PNM IS NO DIFFERENT.There's a saying in Trinidad which suits them and nobody else,"they wrong and strong".I don't think Kamla and her UNC was that bad in their 5years.PNM isn't even looking capable of lasting 5 years.

Well Kamla's problem was that she allowed the Hindu radical cabal to hijacked the party, once that happened, racism and religious bias became the norm. She appeared powerless to stop it and with the legal issue Jack got himself into, she had no one to bail her out.
