I am tired of hearing the excuse "That's how Jermaine plays". Irresponsible batting should not be countenanced, especially in a player as talented as Blackwood. Why would it be excused for Blackwood but not for anyone else? If that's how he plays, then he should be persuaded to do better. If playing like that gives him an average of 33. Then being responsible can improve it to 43. The team will need a responsible innings tomorrow. We can still win this thing.

Blackwood

Anderson to Blackwood, 2 runs, dropped at mid-off! That should have been taken. Broad is the culprit, who moves to his right and shells it. Blackwood isn't to the pitch of the ball. Goes through with the shot and connects it off the cue end. Broad's momentum was taking him down and hence made it difficult and the ball bursts through his hands

Broad to Blackwood, no run, given out LBW and is been reviewed straightaway by Blackwood! Front foot looks fine. Has Blackwood got an inside edge? Else that would be plumb. Yes it is. Just a feather onto the back pad and third umpire Ravi asks Marais Erasmus to change his decision. Coming to the ball - this nips in and kept a tad low on the stumps. Blackwood looks to defend and gets a thin edge onto the pad. Broad goes up for immediately. Marais Erasmus took his time and then ruled him out. Windies get it overturned

Anderson to Blackwood, out Caught by Bairstow!! Anderson has another. Blackwood didn't look settled at all. Was looking positive, but is undone with a good nut. Blackwood wasn't to the pitch of the ball and he flirts his bat at that. A thick outside edge is found and settles into Bairstow's mitts. Anderson is delighted, so are his teammates.
Blackwood c Bairstow b Anderson 5(26)
It's a learning experience for these guys.,Hope they will get better from here on..
Don't be alarmed Guys , WI batsman, formally leg spinner, Bishoo is padded up and waiting to come in and put Anderson and Broad under heavy manners.
He is a lucky batsman

Luck on goes so far, he has the talent but not the application.

Blackwood needs a run in the CPL to see if he's better suited for that format.
I would love to see how he fares in t20s. That might be his forte.

u know its strange that everyone is calling for Blackwood's head. Yet he has many 50's and at least one hundred and has demonstrated an ability to bat for long (occasionally).
Yet...no one calls for the head of Kyle Hope or Dowrich or anyone else. This series Blackwood has scored a few good runs...Kyle Hope, Dowrich and even Kieran Powell have done nothing much yet no threads dedicated to them.
Interesting.
In reply to mikesiva
he is not a t20 player or a ODI player. He is a test player with a primary school focus that needs to be fixed

as long as Blackwood continues to play in that fashion he will be under the gun. It was also the undoing of Collis King at test level

The people calling for Blacks head have no clue..It's the same they said about Gayle.
Last I checked he was third in the batting .The much lauded Dowrich,Hope,Powell,Chase sit their pants yet no calls for dropping them?
In reply to methodic
I agree...he has a glaring weakness to the shortball...but his primary weakness is that he is too school boyish in his approach a lot of the time and seems generally unwilling to change.

You must have been selective in the threads dat you read if you eh see any asking for Powell, Kyle, Dowrich to be dropped

Learning experience? He has played 26 tests. At what point does he start applying what he has learned?
One positive in Blackwood's failure(s) in this test. He has been widely accused of making his runs (only) in losing causes.
Now that he has failed miserably, we just might emerge winners of this one.

England conditions are far more challenging than most..
