House adjourned under 1 hour as speaker saves govt 3 times
Less than two hours after the House of Representatives convened after nine weeks of vacation it was adjourned to September 15, much to the chagrin of the Opposition. The move was made in just under an hour of debate after questions were answered the Speaker had to use her casting vote three times.
Robinson-Regis then moved that the House be adjourned to September 15 at 1.30 pm.
Persad-Bissessar later told the media the Speaker had saved the day for the Government, whom she said came to the Parliament unprepared after nine weeks of vacation.

Colm: No decision on $$ help for Antigua but Caricom focus
Although Cabinet met on Thursday, no decision was taken by the Government on rendering financial assistance to Caricom neighbour Antigua and Barbuda, which was ravaged by Hurricane Irma on Wednesday.
This was revealed by acting Prime Minister Colm Imbert during a joint press conference with acting National Security and Foreign Affairs Minister Stuart Young at the J Hamilton Room, Tower D, Port-of-Spain, yesterday.
Asked if Cabinet had taken a decision to help the affected countries, Imbert said, “The only decision made by the Government is to provide a helicopter…a 12-seater…an Augusta Westland 139 aircraft to the government of Antigua and Barbuda for one week. That is the only decision made so far, bearing in mind our own economic circumstances.”

2 found shot dead in abandoned cars *
TWO men were found dead hours apart, shot in cars abandoned in Siparia and La Brea overnight.
The killings took the murder toll to 338 for the year to date, while the figure at the same time last year was 316.
The deceased — Ryan Alexander, 32, of La Brea, and Ricardo Duntin, of Indian Walk, Moruga — were found with gunshot wounds to the head.
Duntin’s body was discovered around 10.15 p.m. at Murray Trace.
