you obviously mean a world class keeper batsman like a Gilchrist and not a Marsh or Alan Knott

Jackie Hendricks, David Murray, Michael Findlay come to mind re outstanding keepers...Dujon and Clyde Walcott remains our best wicketkeeper batsman. Walcott in fact was one the great WI bats.

Guys like Pydanna never played for WI but his keeper standard was high.

Clyde Walcott however dispels your point if you are referring to world class keeper/batsmen.

The best wicketkeeper the West Indies ever produced is John Leslie "Jackie" Hendriks. It is not even close.
I saw the guy stump somebody at Bourda off the bowling of Lester King in the late 1960's and I am still amazed by it.
He also rarely dropped any catches off the spinners which is very tough.I think he twice kept wicket where 500 runs were scored without a single bye.

Hendricks kept wicket in the 30 or 40s. you must be pushing 80 ent? that is v good.

tell me, are you suggesting that byes are the sign of a good/bad keeper?

I have heard Reds Perreira confirm this. Jackie Hendricks to him also was the best.

"Hendricks kept wicket in the 30 or 40s." Really! Perhaps for Wolmers. Last time I saw Hendricks kept for windies was on the 1966 tour of England. You need to brush up on your windies cricket history man.

hahaha. just taking a dig at Dukes. i would have been commendable for Dukes to be his 80s, dont you think?

nevertheless, is the number of byes recorded a sign of a good/bad keeper?

Only reason why he did not play for Windies before 62 was because his best friend Gerry Alexander was the cappo until 1960. Alexander retired as VC after the OZ tour of 1960-61. Hendricks and Alexander both played for Kingston CC. Hendricks was the regular keeper for the club. Hendricks was not available for the 63 tour of England. David allan and Derryck Murray were the keepers. Murray displaced Allan as the #1 keeper on that tour. I agree with Dukes. Hendricks was arguably the best keeper Windies ever produced.
