I had a family, a career, a house in the suburbs—the American dream. And then I had a slave.

Great story, sad story. A life of giving and giving up, not much receiving, except abuse, but for the end.

I think her story was worse than the author was able to offer up.

Reading this story brought my mind back to a documentary on Indians and other domestic helpers working in the Emirates. I believe an Indian maid got her hand chopped off by her employer in Saudi Arabia about 2 years ago and received a pittance as compensation.

It is not exclusuve to asia, but the problack, anti everything else poster must seize every opportunity to surface with her racism.

Black slavery is a distant past to her. cool

I know bro but modern day in the US & UK there have been several stories linked to ME elite as well as India and the Philippines.

You know there was a Jamaican couple in Texas some years ago who were literally kidnapped and enslaved.

this is predominantly a Asian problem, some of these people cling to these medieval practices even when they migrate from their homelands.
there were two cases in NY recently 2/3 years back.

not saying they are better off in these other countries , but the estimate is 30 million world wide and the three largest Asian countries have 18 million, if 75% of the cases are in Asia, isn't that dominant?

Thanks for posting that story. Sad and depressing until the last 12 years of Lola's life.

75%

Look at the numbers again.

The shifting class of asians?

Indian and chinese together.
Look at nigeria alone and assess again.

Haiti is at 4%.

Egypt as well based on my personal experience. But Egypt does not appear to be as bad as others.
