It was reported that a burglar, who had used a stone to break a window to the house, dropped the firearm and fled when the homeowner confronted him with a machete.
Detectives have since located a man who fits the description of the suspect after he turned up at hospital with chop wounds, the police say.
Hope the chop wounds removed some fingers.
