Toss delayed due to wet outfield
Narper
2017-09-19 08:05:29
12.40pm local: It's proper cold in Manchester, so it's not going to be straightforward to get this outfield dry. Looks like we'll be in for a longer delay than originally thought.
Lunch reduced to 15 minutes to compensate for the time lost.
Also, obviously, we'll start losing overs past the hour mark, which is 1.30pm local.
Narper
2017-09-19 08:18:24
1.15pm local: Okay, so there'll be another inspection at 2pm. This isn't looking good at all, and the crowd, understandably, aren't shying from expressing their displeasure.

Pathetic conditions at the T-20 and now in the first ODI. If this has happened in WI or Asia this would have been a huge issue by now.
In such cold conditions why would you play so many day night matches?

Woakes to Gayle, FOUR, shorter ball, again he's crunched through the leg side, not quite got hold of it but the ball flies past mid-on and races away - 4, 6, 4 and Woakes' tidy start has been rumpled
2.5
6
Woakes to Gayle, SIX, SMASHED! Into the crowd at wide long-on! Not the most sensible line of attack from Woakes, although he tried to push it across from wide on the crease... Gayle just sat back and went blammo, like it was a warm night in Bangalore!
2.4
4
Woakes to Gayle, FOUR, stand-and-deliver pummeling from Gayle, launched over mid-on! Length ball from Woakes, in the arc for Gayle to free his arms and, although it came high off the bat, still nearly went all the way

I don't blame Gayle. He's old and fat anyway. Getting 37 from him is not a bad outcome.
I blame Evin Lewis even more. He gave it away on a rank boundary ball. Poor cricket sense from him.

WI in trouble here. You need your top order bats to last 10 overs and more at a run a ball.
The two openers are back in the dressing room under 10 overs...Advantage England.
These two Hope and Samuels have to carry WI at least to 30 overs ata good run rate.

Hope again shows he is WI leading bat having bat 18 overs for 35 runs but both him and Samuels NEEDED to bat much faster...WI would have been 200/6 in 35-38 overs if Hope and Samuels had scored at normal ODI standards.

Morgan: We came back really well. The West Indies started off really well and our bowlers executed exceptionally well with the slower balls. Joe Root doesn't drop many catches, obviously a difficult one that. Adil managed to bowl well and bowling unit in general have done well. Being there at the end and staying hungry, great way for him to begin the series.
Narper
2017-09-19 15:35:39
Holder: Probably 30-40 runs short. Didn't bowl as well as we should have. Need to rotate the strike more and that's been an area of concern for a while now for us. I felt we lost wickets at crucial stages and that didn't help the momentum. Just a bit too inconsistent. A lot of work to be done. Want to focus on this series first and come back strong for TrentBrdge in two days time.

Bairstow, Man of the Match:
That wasn't happening again (he got out on 99 during the Test series against South Africa this summer). Said Stokes at the half-way down..said not again, then he ran down and bobbed it for six and I thought here we go, he fancies it. Not a great time to slip, but delighted I got back to the third run(when runnig on 99). Seems a long time ago since I had made my debut in ODI cricket. There's been ups and downs along the way. When you get a chance, you gotta come in and take your chances, especially with the strength in our England side. We got a serious belief in the side and we feel we didn't necessarily do justice in the Champions Trophy and going forward to the World Cup and obviously this series, we need to rectify that. I'm a lot stiffer (in the fielding).

To win these matches the batting has to produce 260-275 runs.
So, when the weather enters the picture before the game begins you should not bat but give yourself a better chance on the drying ground.
In any event, the batsmen must produce. They did not.

Holder: A lot of work to be done. Want to focus on this series first and come back strong for TrentBrdge in two days time.
'Want to focus on this series first and come back strong for TrentBrdge in two days time'?

He was told he would now have to go through the qualifying stage for the WC....
So the poor chap says he wanted to focus on this series first....
He doesn't want to quit the cappoship...he holds onto it for dear life .....so let him go through this torture game after game....he should note what happened to Sammy
Holder has the potential to be a very good allrounder....he is not going to achieve this if he remains the cappo of a losing WI side

Holder similar to Carlos Brathwaite for the white ball cricket. If you are not cappo you are unlikely to play. Want a better reason for hanging in there, it is his livelihood.

OK... the bit on focusing on this series and coming back in 2 days time was confusing me since I didn't hear the interview.
