A longer tail in ODIs than in Tests

Andy99 2017-09-19 12:10:12

Holder can't be a #7 followed by Nurse and Bishoo, well technically he can but it is bad for the team.

Holder is by far a much better Test batsman than he is in limited overs cricket.
Even if you consider him a bowling allrounder, then u still picking 4 specialists bowlers and him, thats ridiculous, especially when u consider the 4 bowlers aren't world class.
If u had 4 world class bowlers then u could try and fit them in or maybe if the batting is as strong as India top and middle order then u can sacrifice a batter.

This is our BEST BET for 2019 WCQ:

Gayle
Lewis
Lil Bravo
J Mo / S Hope
Ramdin
Russell
Pollard (note: captain)
Narine
Nurse
Rampaul
Gabriel

Unfortunately, for variety of reasons, it can't come together

J Mo can't be ahead of Shai Hope
Same goes for Nurse when you have young bats like Jermaine Blackwood

Shai Hope vs J Mo is a tough one i agree. Either can play.

Nurse vs Blackwood is a no brainer. Nurse is mainly a spinner and an AUTO PICK in my opinion.

Blackwood is a no.5 or 6, however not an auto pick

I'm not convinced about Pollards abilities in anything longer than 20 overs again, especially at international level..he seems to have regressed.

Dont know if its politics or what but..I cant recall him performin credibly in WI colours in quite some time..in either T-20s or ODIs

conman 2017-09-19 12:48:45

seriously, pollard name getting thrown around again?

25 average after 101 matches rolleyes

Andy99 2017-09-19 12:51:22

Pollard time is over until he play 1-day or 4-day and show form.

WI team should be

Gayle/Hety
Lewis
Hope
Darren Bravo
Mohammed
Ambris
Powell
Holder
Nurse/Bishoo
Williams/Joseph
Gabriel/Roach

ANDY99 is making my eternal point.

If YOUR specialists bowlers are not World class...therefore you need allrounders to compensate for their lack of batting prowess.

DJ BRAVO, REIFER, PRIMUS, EMRIT etc...not necessarily them but that is what you need.

I will also want Lewis, to be Gayle's partner at this format, it is not T20 cricket.

Agreed DJ Bravo at 8/9 would be a great addition to this team

Pacy 2017-09-19 13:03:45

Andy, you are spot on. I am not sure about the WI approach to LO cricket. Even in the recently concluded CPL most of the teams had more bits and pieces players with bowlers and just 2-3 batsmen carrying the team.

WI are atleast 2 proper batsmen short. Like the old times, it has to be people like Jason Mohammed / Gayle / Sammuels who should take care of the 5th bowler duties with 2 allrounders (Dj Bravo / Holder / Brathwaite / Russel / Sammy ) and 2 bowlers.

To Play 4 bowlers and 2 hitters with 1 WK and just 4 batsmen makes the team completely unbalanced.

When last have you seen Bravo bowling 6-10 overs, are you basting your arguement onhis T20 performance?

Absolutely

I believe its easier for a bowler to adjust from T-20 to ODI than a batsman, and look at this bowling line up, no real quality might as well include a guy who might make a few runs.

Taylor definitely needs to go imho

You will be an average ODI and test cricketer, if the only format a player prepare and work on, is T20.
