England captain Joe Root: I do not need a break - one-day series perfect for Ashes
JOE ROOT insists he does not need a break from cricket after a gruelling first summer as Test skipper, insisting the one-day series against West Indies will tee him up perfectly for the Ashes.
Root expended plenty of energy on Tuesday evening at Old Trafford racking up a 125-run second-wicket partnership with Jonny Bairstow which as good as sealed the win.
With this ODI series against West Indies not ending until Friday week, Englands players will have less than a month to rest before their departure for Australia on October 28.
Yet Root, speaking ahead of Thursdays second ODI against West Indies at Trent Bridge, is in no mood to take it easy.
