Shai 41.18
Gayle 37.33
Samuels 34.19
Kyle 33.33
Mohammad 28.00
Lewis 25.61
Rovman 20.00
Dats our main problem right there. One 40 and no 50s. We need another solid middle order batsman.

Batting Averages of our ODI players
Then if you look at the saviours waiting in the wings:
Darren 32.03
Simmons 31.58
Russel 28.97
Pollard 25.71
With a shortage of openers,
Kieran Powell 24.24
needs to be still in the mix

Well, right now we are using Gayle, Lewis and Kyle. Gayle seems to be on his last odi legs, which other openers might you recommend?
In reply to Baje
We(not u) were discussing his in the other thread, in ODIs batsman shold be capable of batting any where. There should be no thing as a specialist opener.
There are some exceptions to the rule as always like Charles, whose strength is facing up against the new ball but struggles against spin and in the middle overs and fast men and Mohammed who likes batting in the middle and facing spin but struggles against the new ball and fast men upfront.
Hope, Darren Bravo, Ambris, hell even Holder could try opening.
Hope and Bravo have been basically doing that batting at 3 while Ambris has experience opening.

You must add SR to stats in this and T20 formats.
Sooner they start grooming Hety the better
he will be a good odi player
In reply to doosra
I agree Hety will be a good ODI batsman, get him in now. Simmons should be in the middle as well
Right Hety too.
Lewis
Hety/Kope
Sope
Bravo/Kope
Mohammed
Ambris
Rovwell/Russell/Primus
Holder
Narine/Nurse
Joseph/Beaton/Roach/Tomas/Reifer/Mayers
Gabriel
In reply to openningDefinitely in T20. However these averages are so poor, that I did not think it worthwhile mentioning strike rate.
In reply to Andy99
I dont know about batsmen batting anywhere in ODIs. Holder open ..lol.I think you need proper openers because most teams come hard at you up front.
I agree that batsmen can move up and down the order, but I think proper openers are needed. Shai and Darren virtually opening is a problem. Having aggressive openers who can secure their wicket would be ideal.
I think you need a JMO type guy in the middle who can steer the team and accelerate as necessary. I think you want a #3 who can bat through the innings. A power hitter or two at the later stages would be helpful.

Have a look at the last 2 years of the Regional 4 day tournaments, what is obvious on this MB, we select base on the year performance and ignore consistency.
Leon Johnson score over 800 2015/16, not a word on him, even making an A team.
2015/16
2016/17

Holder is one of the most sound batsman on the team is only when he have to slog he is crap.
We have to make do with what we have. Powell strike rate isn't all that also.
JMo is a good middle order bat, was just saying certain players are suited to certain positions and he is one of them.
Power hitters at the end is something we are lacking with Russell gone and Pollard out. Rovwell, I dont know what he is (talented tho) but he isn't close to the power hitter like Russ and Pollard. Holder as I said is better in a Test match type scenario where he has time to bat and not just hit.
The likes of Primus, Mayers, Cornwall, should be on the A team 1-day XI and if they do well they should be drafted in for a try in the ODI team.

Do you read what u write?
You posted 2 years and say they select on year and ignore consistency.
1 year have a man scoring 807 runs at 57 and year 2 have him scoring 323 at 20 both years he played 10 matches each.
In reply to Andy99
Read again, you may get it.
2015/16 was went Johnson scored his runs, thats the year the board inserted him in the team, he has been ignored by this board base on his 2016/17 performance, and Ambris is now the player mention.
I await the 2017/18 player.
Check the guys who show batting consistency every year, and lets talk.
In reply to openning
You should.
Johnson was a part of the team well before that season, both WI and the A team.
Ambris has been consistent in 1day cricket, which is why many want him in the 1day team. He only had 1 good season in 4day cricket which is why the calls are less for that format.
You comprehend?
In reply to Andy99
I will look at the Regional 50, before responding, but fans on this mb, wanted him, in the test squad.
NAGICO SUPER50, 2015/16t
REGIONAL SUPER50, 2016/17 / RECORDS / MOST RUNS
What the hype all about, he is in the touring squad, and is selected for the A team.
I am glad to see Andy99 pick an ODI team without Taylor
Taylor is a waste of time IMO.....time and time again I have seen from Sri Lanka,Pak, Ind and Eng openers with flying starts off Taylor...he is no specialist ODI bowler!
In reply to Andy99
Seriously Andy there is no solution.
It is that simple. We are not good enough now nor in the next cycle.
But honestly isn't that life? Not everyone can be Lara.
In reply to analyst-kid
Who is a better bowler in your opinion?
Jerome Taylor or Miguel Cummins?
you think a season of 10 ODI's a year max is enough to develop players, especially with a poor compressed format. CWI needs to invest in the format and not treat is as an annoying thing they would rather have on the cricket calendar.
In reply to imusic
Miguel Cummins has played EIGHT ODIs taking 5 wickets at 54.60
Jerome Taylor has played EIGHTY SEVEN ODIs taking 127 wickets at 28.38
one guy at the start of his career and the other at the end taking licks everytime he opens the bowling.
One looking to rise the other looking to decline...there is no comparison.
In reply to Baje
Those stats explain why folks like me don't hold out much hope for the ODI side....
In reply to Baje
You can compete with that batting if you have decent bowling, I would bet Pakistan is not significantly better.
