EPIC DUNCE selection.

Unproven. This is DO or DIE time. Need to play your BEST.. No time for EXPERIMENTS.

Fail to see which two "proven" players are likely to be available in 2019

Hola...doubt if most of players listed would be around...
I can see..Evin,Hety,Blackie...and then the barrel gets empty..Russ wants nothing to do with ODI..and so too the Magician, and Polly..
Bravo bros ...well anyone's guess as they are hot and cold..

CWI should start a rebuilding process..2019 is the right schedule to do so.
Adios

I would actually want WI to build around the LO strategy of the first half of 2000's when I felt we were more competitive in the 50 Over cricket. Some of the aspects i felt we had then was

Swashbuckling Openers
Steady top order who can take the game into the late 30 overs
Batsmen who can bowl
An allrounder
3 good bowlers.

The strategy changed a lot with the arrival of Chris Gayle as captain. He stopped bowling and started moving into a "Specialist Bowling" theme which worked for him in tests but did not help in the ODI's. From there more bits and pieces players have started holding onto the key batting positions making WI team vulnerable. Given a chance I would try to use the 2000's template and fit in players in the respective roles and build the team in the early 2000's themes

Gayle ( Walton / Charles / Fletcher)
Lewis
Darren Bravo
Shai Hope (Wicket Keeper)
Marlon Samuels
Jason Mohammed
Ambris / Hetmeyer / Ramdin (This is a batsmen's slot which needs to be filled)
Dwayne Bravo /Russel
Ashley Nurse /Sunil Narine
Roach
Beaton / Alzhari Joseph

I would want the 4 bowlers to do their job with Samuels / Jason Mohammed and Gayle completing the other 10.

This is not an ideal team since we have too many holes to fill but I believe we should fill in train or identify the players with the right credentials to fill the positions focusing to create a stable team than a team of bits and pieces where Bravo comes in at No 5 or Powell at No 6.

I think the team should be..5 best ODI batsmen, 3 best ODI allrounders..including the wicket keeper, 3 best ODI bowler

Best ODI batsmen in terms of ODI SR..ability to rotate the strike..i am just not sure, that with the 2019 World Cup in mind..when Gayle will be 40, and Samuels 38..i am not sure how much they should be central to our ODI team right now.

I'd play them in Tests because there is no global tournament in 2 years time in that format...

Given Gayle's susceptibility to injuty..and Samuels difficulty in rotating strike/ judging a run..think the time has come to put both out to pasture.

I have time for Gayle in my dressing room, being part of my squad, he could still contribute so much more than others as a 3rd choice opener..

JMo...I'm afraid is just not one of our 5 best ODI/ List A batsmen..I think Ambris should replace him.

I think Bravo and Russell should play not either or they are W I two best allrounders..potentially in all formats if they chose to play all 3.

Building your strategy arouns relying on Samuels and JMo's spin...i think thats a poor strategy, cos then it means we are saddled with their batting and lowly SRs

1. Lewis
2. ???
3. Shai Hope
4. ???
5. Dwayne Bravo
6. Andre Russseii
7. (Keeper) Walton, Hamilton, Dowrich, Pooran,
Thomas,Ambris
8. Holder (capt)
9. Narine
10.Nurse! Ahead as the 2nd best ODI bowler
11.Any real quick that is hot at the time.

I believe Gayle is close to the end of his career in this format. Injury might have a say.

Samuels and Ramdin had several terrible years together in this format that had every dog and cat calling for their heads. I don't know what they have done more than not be selected in this format to regain their spots.

I can't remember recently we having a genuine pacer that won us an ODI. We really only need one that can take early wickets and it will be a plus if they can bowl in the death. Maybe one of the youngsters will prove to be special.

I am not buying Darren Bravo stock as as our top order answer although he should be a sure pick in this format. I will like to see where Hetmyer is by the middle of 2018. I am also interested in seeing more of Allen and King. Chase and Blackwood are not ODI suited. Blackwood is not composed and tactical enough to be given an ODI batting license. Chase have never demonstrated the prowess of an ODI batsman. Jason Mohamed after playing one brilliant and two to three solid knocks returned to the norm that gives IMusic's assessment credibility. Kyle hope is yet to look like an international player.

On the spin bowling side I am also interested in the development of Pierre and Hosein.

Bravo is not a number 5 ODI batsman..he's a 7 or an 8.

Your side needs more genuine bats.

Whoever they are.

Holder is not good enough batsman or bowler to make the team.

Russell at 6..Bravo at 7

Keeper at 8.

Need more batsmen. Need to identify the talent and groom and expose it.

Who in our List A has a good SR and average over 35.

Who are the best?

In ODI these days you need a really god top four. One of the top four has to bat into the mid forties overs. The rest of the team plays around that bat.

Copy From another Thread

-------------------------------

THESE 15 should be in the SQUAD

* in Bold are those who are not in England

Gayle
Lewis / Walton
Lil Bravo
Shai Hope
Simmons / Samuels
Ramdin (wk)(c)
Russell / Jason Holder
Big Bravo (vc)
Narine
Nurse
Gabriel / Cottrell

Notes.

1. The WCQ are in Zimbabwe... that means either low-slow pitches or flat batting tracks. Minimum two spinners must play. Further why 2 spinners is because the Zim, Afghans and Irish players don't play spin well. - Narine & Nurse are the two best spinners we have.

2. Either Lewis or Walton has to play the role of "Pinch Hitter" at the top of the innings and let Gayle play a long knock.

3. Lil Bravo, Shai Hope at 3,4

4. No.5 toss up between Simmons and Samuels.

5. Ramdin should be captain and Big Bravo his deputy.

6. If Russell is available and in FORM then he is the auto pick, else Jason Holder

7. Gabriel is the PACE OPTION. He is the only pacer with true speed who will rattle the Zim, Afghans and Irish. Cottrell should be his backup as with his left-arm swing he can be uncomfortable for many of the opponents (who are not used to left-arm swing bowlers)

We only disagree on the number 5 slot..for me Samuels not even on the bench...Simmons..i'm not sure..he has been hit or miss batsman in all formats..not sure i would be relying on him as one of my 5 best batsmen..

Throw the BOOT LICKER CAPPO out and signal that MERIT based SELECTION will be done.. and ALL will COME.

This is DO or DIE TIME... for the WC Qualifiers.

Make Rammo Cappo and Big Bravo VC.

TIME IS RUNNING OUT.
