Kieron Pollard will captain a strong Red Force squad while Darren Sammy will skipper the Regional XI in a match being used to raise funds for our Caribbean neighbours who have been affected by Hurricane Irma and Maria at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port-of-Spain from 7pm.

This will be the first time the Red Force will be playing Twenty20 cricket since the inception of the Caribbean Premier League which resulted in the introduction of franchise cricket in Caribbean.

Selected in the squad are: Sunil Narine, Samuel Badree, Ravi Rampaul, Rayad, Emrit, Kevon Cooper, Lendl Simmons, Denesh Ramdin and Dwayne and Darren Bravo who formed the core group of players that put the Red Force on the global map with their exciting brand of cricket at the now defunct Champions League tournaments.

Emerging T20 superstars such as attacking opening batsman Evin Lewis and wicketkeeper/batsman Nicholas Pooran have been included in the squad that will be coached by Kelvin Williams and managed by Roland Sampath.

The Regional XI has an experienced squad which featured World T20 champions Johnson Charles, Andre Fletcher, Fiedel Edwards, Dwayne Smith and Ashley Nurse. Off-spinner Shane Shillingford who is from Dominica which has been severely affected by the recent hurricanes is in the team. Jamaican sprinter and Olympic gold medalist, Yohan Blake will also be part of the Regional XI.

TTCB Executive Member and a key figure of the Local Organising Committee for the Charity T20 tournament, Baldath Mahabir expressed his delight in reuniting the Red Force team to play against a formidable Regional XI for a worthy cause.

“The Red Force squad is one of the greatest Twenty20 team every assembled. I am delighted that the team is reuniting to play in the Charity T20 match to help raise funds for our Caribbean brothers and sisters affected by the hurricanes,” said Mahabir.

Rubbish.
Amateur talent maybe but compared to these pros who train for cricket throughout the year, they would struggle to get into local club cricket XIs.

Blake in hurricane clash

World renowned sprinter Yohan Blake will line up for the Caribbean All Stars in the upcoming Hurricane relief clash against a powerful T&T Red Force at the Queen’s Park Oval on October 14.

Blake has shown an interest in cricket for a while now and considers himself a budding all rounder.

They will come up against a T&T Red Force outfit that has proven to be the best in the region. A look at the line-up of the Red Force brings back memories of the period 2009 to 2014, when they attended four Champions League tournaments, as winners of the Caribbean T20 title. Packed into the team are a number of players who recently played for the winning Trinbago Knight Riders in the 2017 Hero CPL tournament.

Charity match, maybe they *should* have more 'non-cricketers' involved.

Lewis

Apart from those 13... there is

Imran Khan
Cariah
Marlon Richards

Thats a solid core of 16 players that can play international cricket for the next 5-7 years easily.

greggle71 2017-10-06 11:27:49

It's almost impossible to break into a T&T XI far less a WI XI for a young upcoming player.

One of the merits of CPL is that the franchise structure allows the spreading of talent if any country is faced with a glut of talent. T&T in this instance.

The tickets are US$100 or TT$100 ?

You should know that with a team

one needs base players, then fill the gaps with applicable strengths

That the Red Force gang they bond easily and play as a team.

Where they reside have no applicable correlation.

It would be interesting to find out whether or not this was the brainchild
of the Worst International Cricket Board in the Commonwealth .

If it is then Congratulations to them ; if not I would not be surprised ; That would be in keeping their Attitude & Behaviour .

POINT 2017-10-06 21:59:46

As the premier Cricket Board in the
Region , My take is that the WICBC/CWI
should have arranged such a match .

Unfortunately it seems that they are not that bright , They however love using the Dominica Park to play matches .

It seems that they are only interested in staging matches when they are the sole beneficiaries of the money Collected .

Since WE live in Democratic Countries
Everyone has the Right to express His/her Views . Apparently some people do not believe this , never mind the fact that WE live in Democratic Countries , rather than in Russia .

analyst-kid 2017-10-07 08:37:32

I give the Regional Team the edge in batting....Trinidad Red Force the advantage in bowling.

If dey had chg I would’ve agreed with u.

analyst-kid 2017-10-07 14:23:18

If any one of Smith,Charles,McCarthy and Walton get away....it is a big score.

I could only say that about Lewis and Simmons on the Red Force...Pollard dont perform too often.

Agreed, this game is immense....the build up to the game is far bigger than that for a WI international.

My only wish is that it should have been a best of three over the weekend...everyday would be a sellout.

Also, guest celebrity players is a good idea. One to each team, for one game only so to preserve competitiveness

If his Boltness for eg. turned out for team TT...the crowd would have been even further off the scale.,

All in all thought, a fantastic response from the players all for a worthy cause.

Darren Bravo and Dinesh Ramdin were very good in the recent cpl. We know what Pooran can do if he stays 4 overs. Dwayne and Polly rusty atm. But on their day will destroy u

It was made possible by Sport T&T Dinas Ramnarine and the T&TCB

CWI just had to give its blessing, they have no involvement.

This team would have won a WC 3 or 4 years ago,I'm not sure they are good enough to do so now.
