Rafael Nadal sues former French sports minister

Nadal is suing Bachelot, who served as sports minister between 2007 and 2010, over remarks in March 2016 on French television.

She alleged that Nadal faked an injury in 2012, when he missed the final six months of the season due to knee problems, in order to hide a positive drug test.

Neither Nadal nor Bachelot were at the court hearing in Paris on Friday.

The player’s lawyer, Patrick Maisonneuve, told the court that the doping accusation could have had “major consequences” for Nadal concerning his “existing or future sponsors”.

Maisonneuve said his client had “asked me to put to bed once and for all what Mrs Bachelot said by passing on to you his medical file”, which he said revealed a very serious left knee injury.

Bachelot’s lawyer Olivier Chappuis argued that at fault was the International Tennis Federation’s anti-doping programme, which he claimed “has always been astonishingly lax”.

He added: “There is a vast gap between the success he enjoys and the weakness of anti-doping controls.

“What sponsor has abandoned Rafael Nadal because of these comments? None,” he claimed, suggesting the court award symbolic damages to Nadal if his client is found guilty of one euro.

The 16-time Grand Slam winner has never failed a drugs test, and vehemently denies ever using a banned substance.

That's why I refer to the stuff as "bananas." That, and the fact that Nadal once choked on a banana during a break.

When you guys say that Nadal is taking PED,it is done with pure malice and not only without any evidence whatsoever but with a suspension of common sense.
We all have our favorite athletes and people who we do not like for whatever reason but to label someone a drug cheat simply because you don't like them could be viewed as symptomatic of a character flaw.

Here we go again Dukesie, we've been through this many times before and do you really want to revisit all those arguments?

There is the link to the Madrid clinic run by Eufemiano Fuentes which many Spanish athletes were linked to including Nadal.

Nadal declared sometime ago that he has never used any banned substances during his career. Then when his WADA records were leaked by the Russian hackers, he admitted he had used banned substances under TUEs. It then transpired that he got the permissions from the authorities after he had actually used the banned substances.

When a French minister accuses him of using PEDs, when a former Grand Slam champion in Yannick Noah accuses Rafa of taking PEDs, you have to wonder.

Please forgive me Ole Sideburns, I know you like to think very highly of yourself but I'll rather take the opinions of a Sports Minister (Roselyne Bachelot) and Yannick Noah's ahead of yours on the subject of tennis.

For many years, Lance Armstrong faced persistent allegations of doping which he denied. Still the accusations continued then eventually...

Look, you can continue being naive in believing he is clean. I think otherwise and it has nothing to do with whether I like or dislike him.
The truth will eventually out, may not be today or tomorrow, but it will eventually out!

In the meantime, keep wearing that bandana around Flushing Meadows and defending Rafa!

BTW, do you till believe he is the GOAT?? lol

In all seriousness Ninesy, in a court of law, the onus is on you to prove these allegations...so until the sports governing body or the law courts find the sportsperson(s) guilty, it remains an allegation which should always be accompanied by "...it is alleged..."

It does not matter what those two esteemed persons you mentioned, proffered on the matter.

The court of public opinion in that regard is fraught with danger.

Yep, like when the whole of Hollywood were aware of Weinstein's "alleged" reputation.

I'm not in a court and don't have to abide by those restrictions. There is stuff out there on this subject, I've weighed it up and arrived at my own conclusion.

By all means disagree...and that's fine but don't do as Dukesie and chat crap about character flaw!

Brother, even if I know you, I cannot reach a conclusion about a character flaw in you.

However there can be some pointers which Dukes is qualified to spot as evidenced by your writings, assertions and how you arrive at conclusions.

big grin

...I'm not in a court and don't have to abide by those restrictions...

Now I did not expect to see the above from you.

INSIGHT: PHYSIO MARK LEATHER

What began as an inflammation of the tendon in Nadal’s right knee (patella tendinitis) has become a degeneration of the tendon.

It becomes torn and frayed and will not be as strong. The idea behind surgery is to clean the area and generate fresh healing and a better-structured tendon. Tennis involves eccentric muscle work with a lot of acceleration followed by rapid deceleration.

It is that stamping of the foot as you fix and flex the leg to play a shot with all your body weight that keeps antagonising the tendon. The harder the surface, the worse it is, as more force is transmitted up from your ankle through your tendon.

At this stage of rehab he’ll be testing the muscles around his knee, getting the tendon working again, even miming the movement of a shot on a soft surface. There are treadmills that control the amount of body weight you are putting through your legs. But you can’t just concentrate on the tendon as you’re over-compensating and something else can go wrong.

Psychology is also key to rehab. Injured athletes must accept the overall timescale but also have recovery targets for every day.

Bachelot should have investigated his cocaine using French player

Okay, let me put it another way; I'm not in a court of law and so don't have to prove shit to you or the side-bearded tosser!

Does that do it for you? lol

The only link between Nadal and Fuentes is their passport

Then when his WADA records were leaked by the Russian hackers, he admitted he had used banned substances under TUEs. It then transpired that he got the permissions from the authorities after he had actually used the banned substances.

I was troubled by the above until I read about the Russian hackers "expose" on Venus Williams and realized that any athlete with injuries will have to take medication which runs afoul of WADA hence the need for exemptions.Sadly lay people can be easily swayed into believing the worse ESPECIALLY in these times when people believe what they want to believe.

When a French minister accuses him of using PEDs, when a former Grand Slam champion in Yannick Noah accuses Rafa of taking PEDs, you have to wonder.

I agree that you have to wonder why it seems that the French(well two French people) have a particular suspicion of Nadal and not of any French person.

Please forgive me Ole Sideburns, I know you like to think very highly of yourself but I'll rather take the opinions of a Sports Minister (Roselyne Bachelot) and Yannick Noah's ahead of yours on the subject of tennis.

I agree that I do think highly of myself but mainly when it comes to my integrity, honesty and sense of justice.I am sure that should those who know those two french characters well and those who know me well could compare notes on the three character traits I outlined, there is little doubt.........

BTW, do you till believe he is the GOAT??

I have never believed that Nadal is the GOAT.
That belongs to Roger Federer!!!
