Kelly’s Use of Empty Barrel

Runs 2017-10-20 18:35:59

Against the Congresswoman who had no idea of its meaning. I am assuming he was taught the phrase, “ Empty barrels makes the most noise,” by Guyanese whom he associated with a lot during his Southcom mlitary stint as commander.
She said on CNN that she never heard of it and researched it to be racist. That is incorrect.

that is a standard English phrase.

Kelly is spinning, Trump said he did not say that and now Kelly is saying he told Trump to say that!

I was surprised she didn't know what it meant. Surely, she would have heard the "empty vessel" version of that.

Why is it incorrect? You will agree it is disparaging ------ and it was directed at a black woman ---- I am sure Kelley has many instances where he could refer to trump as an ‘empty barrel” but he hasent – he has had many instances where he could refer to white people that way ----- he has a sense of a pile of bullshit superiority complex – I have watched him in congressional testimony – he is an aloof arrogant SOB

It's 'empty vessels',never hear empty barrels in my life...

Olberman and O'Donnell also said it had racist undertones and he knows why,he lived it just as Kelly and Kelly should know better..empty barrels ain't empty vessels..

Kelly's losing his shine..or should that be sheen?

You know the type. He or she is the loudest at parties, always showing off at work, boasting about their accomplishments to anyone who will listen, or acting as the know it all.

What does matter is not getting caught by their conduct.
How do you prevent behaving like an empty barrel yourself? Believe in yourself. You don’t have to prove anything else to others. There’s no need to convince anyone of the legitimacy of your dreams.
You follow your path because it leads to your destination, not to make an impression.

Kelly was dead wrong about her claiming credit for the funding to build the FBI building. Instead of saying he was wrong, Huckabee-Sanders, doubled down on the lie.

Both are grandstanding until proven otherwise.

true – but what Kelly accused the congress woman of taking credit for never happened – she never took credit for procuring funding for FBI field office --- don’t just believe it because it s coming from a white 4 star general ------ just shows how easily we can be whitewashed ----

And you call yourself a West Indian? It's in this song.

Dan_De_Lyan 2017-10-20 19:44:51

found this:

They are making a distraction. While everyone is so busy talking about the president's handling of his call to the widow of the soldier killed in Niger, you're all missing the important part of that story -- the part about what happened that night in Niger.
The story that is emerging is so much worse than anything that happened in Benghazi, but the same GOP Congress that investigated Benghazi with a fury seems to have little or no interest in this story.
Here's what we know so far:
These soldiers went to a meeting in an area near the border with Mali. This is a well known hot spot for ISIS activity.
Our soldiers were not backed up by US Military air support. No, they were backed up by the French, who were not authorized to intervene or even fire a shot.
Our soldiers did not have armored vehicles. They traveled in pickup trucks.
Our soldiers were given faulty intel that said "it was unlikely that they would meet any hostile forces."
Of course, they walked into an ISIS ambush. It was chaotic and they took three casualties.
It took the French 30 minutes to arrive. When they did, they were not authorized to help. So, a dozen of our Green Berets fought a battle with more than 50 ISIS fighters, without help, for 30 minutes.
Finally, a rescue helicopter arrived, but it was not a US military helicopter. No, we apparently outsourced that job to “private contractors.” So, these contractors landed and loaded the remaining troops, the injured and the dead.
Here's where this gets really bad, because they were not military, they never did a head count. That is how Sgt. La David Johnson was left behind.
That's right. They left him behind.
According to the Pentagon, his locator beacon was activated on the battlefield, which indicates that he was alive when they left him there.
They recovered his body 48 hours later, but are refusing to say where. According to his widow, she was told that she could not have an open casket funeral. This indicates that he was mutilated after being left behind on the battlefield.
This is what led to the nonsense we're obsessing over. This is the real story. As usual, you're allowing it to be about Trump's distraction, but this is Benghazi on steroids.
The Trump Pentagon gave these men bad intel, no support, outsourced rescue people and then tried for more than a week to pretend it never happened.
In that time, Trump spoke on many occasions and never mentioned it.
He tweeted attacks on many but never mentioned these men.
Only after pressure from the media has he bothered to even acknowledge these men and their service

StumpCam 2017-10-20 19:56:44

Kelly apparently is unaware that he is working for the most bigly empty barrel in history!

birdseye 2017-10-20 20:22:54

I am watching the video of the Florida congresswoman presentation at the FBI building dedication – Kelley must not have been at the meeting – because he got it all wrong ---
see for yourselfthis video does not do justice - the Chris Hayes show on now with Joy reid subbing - maybe someone can find and post the entire video

As a youngster , that phrase was one of my Grandfather's favourite expressions ; except ashas already been stated , rather than the word Barrels , as has already been stated ; my Grandfather stated " Empty Vessels" , which according to the Dictionary , can contain liquids , so
it seems that in this instance Barrels & Vessels can be synonymous .

So when I heard it , it brought back memories to me . I had absolutely no
idea that I would have heard that expression in the USA .

POINT 2017-10-20 20:40:41

In reply to birdseyeI also have just seen it on the Rachael Maddow Show that tonight is being hosted by
Joy Reid .

Evidently Trump & Co , have probably never heard of the expression , that
when digging a Hole it makes no sense digging furiously , because the possibility exists that You can never extricate yourself from that Hole .

In this Forum, I have stated what You have stated . Trump's Modus Operandi
is to divert attention from the REAL SUBJECT by both Trump & his Flunkies
spreading Lies .

Their objective is to have their Critics talk about SideShows , while the Real Issues escape serious Attention by the Media . It is a strategy of Mass Diversion or Distraction .

Trump himself, the sacred, cat grabbing one could be described as an empty barrel intellectually.

I don't see the racist connotation. Most yanks can be described as empty freaking barrels...just listen

to the Networks...even Congress itself.

Bai, in common entrance class back in the mid 70s, we used a Text Book, First Aid in English, where we had to learn various idioms/expressions - Empty vessels makes the most sounds/noises! Wow! Isnt that a brite congresswoman? But, then again, she's a Demonrat/Democrap! Dunces! shock

embsallie 2017-10-21 10:10:44

Most peeps in the West Indies know the phrase as empty barrel.

The premise is that barrels usually hold some sort of liquid - wine, water etc.
Roll that barrel and if it is full the noise it makes is muffled since sound travels much more slowly through a liquid than in air compared to an empty one which will bounce and magnify the noise.

It was a good read....exactly what went on in Niger is being swept in the background.

Closed casket suggested that he was either mutilated...or had battle injuries..

THe circumstances are shady..private contractors, poor intelligence, abandonment..

So with all that the good general concentrates on 'sacred conversations'
