With Kemar Roach and Shannon Gabriel in their attack, the Windies have two bowlers with the sort of pace that Zimbabwe are unaccustomed to, given their own lack of seamers with genuine speed.
Like any savvy team, the home side have therefore done their best to sabotage their visitors by preparing a dry surface.

"Look at the team Zimbabwe have picked, they've got six players who can bowl spin," Law said. "With the characteristics of this ground, and two Tests at the same ground, it does favour spin bowling more than medium pace bowling.
Having said that, we've got two or three guys who can crank it up to over 90mph and that pace it doesn't really matter where you play, it's hard to bat against."

Although the Queens Sports Club outfield is relatively lush, and grass has been kept on the square around the playing pitch, this is the hottest time of year in Bulawayo. Temperatures on Friday topped 35 degrees, and are expected to hover around that mark during the Test, which could hamper the fast bowlers.

What to expect:
With temperatures in the mid-30s, Bulawayo is hot, muggy and hazy. Yet the summer rains are probably a couple of weeks away, so the stifling heat will continue during the Test. There may be a small sprinkle on the first afternoon, but otherwise the forecast looks good.

Did you know?
- The West Indies have not played a Test in Zimbabwe since 2003. Heath Streak captained Zimbabwe in that game, while Brian Lara led West Indies. Chris Gayle and Vusi Sibanda are the only active players remaining from the two lineups.
- Zimbabwe have never won a Test against West Indies, having lost six and drawn two.
- Craig Ervine has two hundreds and three fifties in his last five Tests.

The toss could be delayed as the outfied is wet due to overnight rain.
Day 1: Toss delayed due to rain

"There was a fair bit of rain overnight, and it's raining lightly at the moment. It's not enough to prevent the teams from continuing their warm-up, but the covers are in place so the toss has been delayed. The outfield does not look to be holding much water though, so if the rain stops then we should be able to get going fairly quickly," informs Tristan Holme, our correspondent from the ground.

Drinks! The Zimbabwe bowlers have been disciplined so far. No freebies on offer and Jarvis's persistence with outside off line paid dividends as he found Brathwaite's nick. This looks like a batting deck. Nothing for the bowlers either in the air or in the deck. All they can do is bowl tightly and hope for an error from the batsmen.

Mire to Kyle Hope, out Caught by Chakabva!! Appeal. Quite a meek one to start. But the Zimbabweans decide to try their luck with the technology. And tell you what there is a spike on the UltraEdge. A thick one. After a few spray-arounds, Mire gets it bang in that channel, that nagging channel just outside off. Hope hangs his bat out, without any feet, hoping for a feel. And it is the slightest of feathers as the ball zips away to the keeper. Kyle Hope c Chakabva b Mire 16(23) [4s-3]

Cremer to K Powell, out Caught by Craig Ervine!! Zimbabwe review. For a catch at short leg. Looks like it came off the bat. And Ervine has taken a safe catch. Excellent catch. There is a little spike on the UltraEdge. Overturned! Excellent review. And, Powell has to walk back. Second successful review of the day for Zimbabwe. This was a flat leg-break from round the wicket and Powell went down for a paddle sweep and got a faint inside edge. Ervine, at forward short leg, anticipated early, moved to his left and took a sharp, low catch.

A gripping session of Test cricket. 32 overs, 89 runs and one wicket - that was what happened in the post lunch session.
The biggest takeaway from this session is that the ball is spinning viciously on day one. Cremer got lots of spin and it was tough to score against him.
Powell, who registers his first fifty since his comeback, gave up yet another start as he fell victim to Cremer. The Cremer-Williams duo were bowling tight lines at a quick pace.
Shai Hope has been excellent with his defensive and offensive techniques. His love affair with the longest format continues as he notched up his third Test fifty. Along with him his Chase, who has settled down nicely.

Chase after the forward defence softened him up a ball earlier now just doesn't get out in his nudge. Stays mid-way, gets the inside edge and short leg doesn't mess about.

Cremer to Blackwood, out Stumped!! Third ump time. He's been really busy today. And this time he has the on-field umpire to blame. A stumping opportunity. Cremer yet again spins his web, and Blackwood's meek defences do not do him any good. Gets drawn out, once again doesn't cover for the turn and lets it spin past. Also his back foot stretches so much so that it slips out of the crease. And stays on the line. All the zoom cameras confirm nothing behind it. Curtains on a clueless knock and the Windies are on half a slide post tea.

Holder has reviewd. And I am not sure, what was it for - lbw or catch at second slip. There is no bat and since the umpire was in a hurry to rule him out, I think it was an lbw. Looks good enough on replays as well. At best, might be a case of umpire's call. Hold on, there is some bat - leading edge. And the catch at slip was clean, so this is no good news anyway for Holder. Now they check for lbw, this is strange. If there is bat, why then they checked for HawkEye

Sean Williams to Devendra Bishoo, out Caught by Craig Ervine!! Another sharp catch at FSL. Third catch for Ervine. Great catch. Zimbabwe have been brilliant today on the field.

Devendra Bishoo to Raza, out Caught by Gabriel!! Raza falls for the pressure. He was kept quiet for long and ends up throwing his wicket to a poor shot selection. It was a flighted delivery well outside off. Raza decided to go over the top. Went against the spin and gets it of the cue end that skied to long-off. Gabriel kept his eyes on the ball and took a clean catch running forward.

Devendra Bishoo to Craig Ervine, out Lbw!! That's a huge blow for Zimbabwe, Ervine knew it as well, has a chat with his partner, gets the confirmation and simply walks off. This was nicely tossed up on off and spun back into the left-hander, as he has been doing - Ervine went down low on the sweep. It's a risky shot against the leg-spinner and once he missed it, it was curtains. Struck bang in front of middle and umpire Reiffel has an easy call. Zimbabwe are fast losing the initiative, Hawk-Eye shows three reds.

Devendra Bishoo to Sean Williams, out Caught!! Brilliant cricket from the Windies duo of Bishoo and Dowrich. Unnecessary from Williams. First ball from Bishoo and he decides to give him the charge, the leggie slows it up and drags the length back, the ball goes on straight with the arm, Williams misses the forward push and the ball lobs off the front pad to Dowrich, who removes the bails off in a flash. Dowrich was slightly blinded by the batsman, but kept his composure to effect the stumping. Looks like there was an inside edge onto the pad. The mode of dismissal will be changed to caught.

67.2 Bishoo to Sikandar Raza, OUT, And Bishoo takes a wicket off a loosener! Short on leg stump, spins across and he cuts this away from his body from outside off stump. He could've hit that for four anywhere, but...finds Chase at short extra cover. He's got to go, and Bishoo strikes. With that it's drinks.

73.2 Bishoo to Taylor, OUT, another partnership thrown away. Oh this will sting. Poor cricket. Back of a length at leg stump, he camps on the back foot and pushes this straight to the fielder at midwicket. Takes off for a run, hesitates, then goes through. Ditto at the other end. No one is calling. A direct hit where there was no run. Waller had barely crossed half of the pitch

74.5 Chase to Chakabva, OUT, leaps to his left and takes the return catch. Tossed up at off stump. Coaxes him to drive. He takes it on but is beaten by the loop. Can't get close enough to the pitch of this. Bunts it back feebly and Chase does well

76.5 Chase to Taylor, 1 run, OUT, good length at middle stump, pushed to deep square leg....wait, what?! They've come back for a second and Taylor has had to put in a dive as the flat throw is close to the stumps and Dowrich flicks the bails off. Oh man. What is happening? He's definitely short. Third umpire confirms. That's out. There was no need.

81.2 Bishoo to Cremer, OUT, oh it's worked! Well, well, well. They showed pictures of the old ball and you couldn't tell a seam used to be there. Bishoo has a seam now. And he gets it to rip away from leg stump. He looks to flick, closes the face too early and lobs back a simple return catch

Chase to Mpofu, 1 run, dropped! Good length at middle stump, swipes across the line hard and it's threatening to fly over Holder who puts both hands up to his left and parries it over the bar

Cremer: Little bit disappointing. We went really well on the first day. Second day we lost our way with the bat. Windies came back in the second innings, were really patient. We started well with the bat in the second innings but we knew it was going to be tough. Bit of complacency, loss of concentration; few soft wickets, I thought. Mire will get better and better. Hamilton (Masakadza) has been great for us. Good to see BT (Taylor) get some runs. Our seamers bowled really well. We will go back and see what pitch we are going to get. Sometimes, you don't realize how much time there is in Test match. Hopefully, we will get better.

Holder: I thought we started well with the bat but lost our way in the middle. Credit to Zimbabwe bowlers and fielders. We backed out bowlers to build some pressure. It was a tough pitch on the first day, gripped a lot and then got slower and slower. Hoping there is something for the faster bowlers in the second Test. The way he came here and bowled, brilliant. That is what we expect from him (Bishoo). He is highly underrated (Chase). He is done it before and he got wickets for us today as well.
