While at it, I am also checking Blackwood's average.
Shai has moved from rags to middle income while Blackwood has moved from...
For those who were ridiculing Shai at the start of his career and not good enough to recognize class when they see a batsman.
If averages told the story then...it tells the story now.
What a difference a day makes in the space of 5 innings.

I am checking Shai's test batting average now.

So, you're only concern about a selfish Shai, instead of his inability to protect the tail?
In reply to StumpCam
Yep. Unless the tailenders give Shai a portion of their earnings for shielding them.
Most tailenders from other countries learn to stay at the wicket, especially if a recognized batsman is at the other end.
Whappen, our tailenders are too lazy to learn to hold a bat?

I am just trying to keep the argument consistent from the recent past!

You will never see me criticize Shiv...NEVER.
The four star cricket general Shiv has earned the right not to be criticized.
Tailenders get pay for play just like Shai and Shiv.
Shai might very well be the new Shiv in the making.

I am one of those who have always supported shai Hope. The new Chanderpaul.

Only in terms of not protecting tailenders.

Very soon our bowlers will be saying, they cannot catch and field, because they are on the team to bowl.

I think most people who understand the game, could easily recognize his talent. He became an easy target for those who brought up his 18 average,in all likelyhood because there are so many players from Bim in the test side. To be fair, that paltry average was from a very small sample size and meant very little. He has now settled in nicely, and the ceiling should be very high. I still maintain that there is not enough batting talent in the region, to keep young Hetty on the bench.

Exactly my argument at the time which caused me to remark here: "when Shai has played 20 tests like Blackwood and still averages less than 30 then it's time to pack up."
I saw the latent and was quite willing to invest in 20 tests.
Thanks to Dujon for spotting a top class proper batsman.

I had many arguments with friends about Shai. They kept showing me his average while I showed them his batsmanship. Well, the last tour of Eng, all they said was "You always maintained about Shai."
I tell them they have to watch and learn.

Are you sure? There is a guy/company by the name of Kaspersky who tends to differ. Put it in the cloud instead ... then again, the cloud is not as safe as people think.
In reply to NYCOURTNEY... hence Kyle stays.
Funny enough, I always said Shai Hope didn't look a bad player, but why he suffered was because he was asked to open in test cricket when he isn't that, his technique at the time wasn't up to scratch. I said he'll do well if he got the chance to bat 4-6.
Also, I have to eat me words cause while I agreed with him in the test team, I was against his entry in the ODI team as he wasn't that good at that version regionally. Man stroke off a nice knock in Zimbabwe. When I see that knock, ah say yeah, kid can play!!
