2017 is the first year in which he's played more than 2 tests, that Holder is going to end up with a batting average > bowling average.
Wonder if the captaincy has helped or hindered his progress as a player, probably the job/selection security has aided his progress as a cricketer.
Well done J Ho.
Grow from strength to strength,
This calendar year 31.9 with the bat, 31.35 with the ball

Overall..he averages 28 with bat and 36 with ball..but this post was only about how good a year he's been having..finally looks the part.
Hoping next calendar year he average 50 with the bat and 22 with the ball!!!
Also hoping he loses the captaincy!!!

I'm convinced the captaincy has hampered his bowling at least. He was a better bowler years ago in my opinion. Captaincy may have added responsibility to his batting though.

Thats a good summary i think.
Like i cant help but think that bowlers can't manage themselves optimally when they are captain.

That was Otis Gibson's fear, that captaincy would hamper his development.
